Plot SummaryThe Great Grail War

In short, the Grail War is a small scale war for the Ultimate Prize, a Single wish. And it is a war waged by Magic users called 'Masters' and the Legendary Spirits of History and Mythology who they summon to serve them during the war.

Normally, there are 7 Master, and seven servents. But that is not always the case, and even when it is the case, not everything is ever what it appears to be.

Master is a designation given to an individual, usually a Magus (This case it would be an Adept), who has formed a contract with a Ghost Liner(A soul of the dead attached to a magical construct) called a Servant as their Familiar. The Master provides the Servant with Prana(Magical Energy) and a sort of "passport" into the modern era in return for the services of said Servant.

Traditionally, a Master is an individual who has formed a contract with a Ghost Liner type Familiar, for the purpose of acquiring the Holy Grail of Fuyuki City. There are no actual restrictions on how the contract is used, when it is made, or how long it lasts, but the Servant inevitably has goals of its own.

In order become a Master, a person must successfully summon a Servant through use of a specific Formal Craft ritual. Upon completion, the Master must formalize a contract with the Summoned Servant by acknowledging their respective roles. The process creates a link between the two, allowing the Master to support the Servant with their Prana or an external source.

In every known case, Masters only occur through the power of the Great Grail of Fuyuki City. The Grail both selects prospective Masters according to their need and provides the majority of the energy needed to manifest and maintain the Servant. It also provides the Command Spells which grant limited control of the Servant to the Master.

[SPOILERBUTTON="How the grail war works"]The grail war is a war-stricken competition of blood and determination held every sixty years by numerous families of Magi. Each magi carries with them a desire to compete and obtain the Holy Grail in order to grant a wish or desire that lies deep within their heart. In an effort to attain victory, they perform a summoning ritual in hopes of attaining a like-minded powerful Servant to aid them. Servant's are the incarnations of legendary warriors, heroes and mythological denizens. They serve their Masters in an effort to attain the Holy Grail, hoping to be granted a wish that they could not achieve in their lifetimes. Whether it is for repentance, vengeance, or immortality, the pact between Servant and Master is made in hopes of attaining their deepest wish.

Given the laws of the pact made between Master and Servant, the summoner is imbued with a rune made up of three parts. Typically the rune is placed on the Master's hand, however, it can be located anywhere on their body. As the servant fights and encounters near death situations, a Master may use one of these runes to force the Servant to obey them. The master will then lose that rune for the remainder of the campaign. A master can use a rune to force a Servant to do their bidding even if it is against their will and beliefs, example being, sending a heroic servant out to murder innocents in order to obtain the needed mana for fighting. When the runes are used up, the pact between the Servant and Master has ended. The Master may reform a pact with a Servant who has no master, but often, the Servant will kill off their former master for using their power against their will.

As time continued, Magi gathered from throughout the world in hopes of claiming the Holy Grail in order to grant one wish or desire for themselves. Due to the chaos instilled by the conclusion of the 4th Holy Grail War, the mana surrounding the area failed to dissipate properly and wound up setting the stage for the 5th Holy Grail War. Unlike the previous grail wars, many dormant magi families have awoken to their powers and find themselves immersed into the long held tradition between the seven original families of magi. As a result, this grail war will prove to be the most intensive and ruthless one yet, as numerous families enter with their newly summoned servants, the war has escalated beyond the competition of the seven magi families.[/SPOILERBUTTON]

What is the Grail War?
Here are two videos partially explaining the general idea behind the Holy Grail War

Video talking about the servant types and the reason for the Grail War

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=eVEJhhY9eGU

Video from the Anime to give people a small idea of what it will seem like (Introduces different masters and their Servants)

This also shows the use of Noble Phantasms, Synchronized Noble Phantasms or Spells, and Amplified Synchronization (Such as summoning the Sheath "Avalon" at the end of the video)

Servant typesSaber: Servants placed within this class are agile and powerful melee warriors. It is commonly assumed to be the best class overall, with high ratings in all categories. It is one of the three Knight classes, together with Lancer and Archer and also possesses the Riding skill like the Rider class.

Lancer: Servants placed within this class are very agile and skilled with long-range melee weapons, such as spears, lances, etc. It is one of the three Knight classes, together with Archer and Saber.

Archer: Servants placed within this class are usually proficient with projectiles and can survive longer without a Master nearby, thanks to their special ability Independent Action; the strongest Archers can be difficult to control at times, in fact, due to their near-total independence from their "Masters". It is one of the three Knight classes, together with Lancer and Saber.

Rider: Servants placed within this class place emphasis upon speed and powerful Noble Phantasms, which often include their mounts. Their special skill is Riding, which allows them to fully utilize abilities of their mounts (which can range from simple horses to mechanical vehicles to divine or supernatural creatures.).

Caster: Servants placed within this class are adept in magecraft and have a special ability akin to Reality Marble, called Territory Creation, which alters or creates space around them to enhance their sorcery.

Assassin: Servants placed within this class are always, as a rule, one of the 19 Hassan i Sabbah, the leaders of the clan of the Hashshashins who passed their name down (although this rule does not hold absolutely true in the Fate/Extra reality). The Assassin in Fate/stay night summoned by Caster is an exception, an aberration in the system, as he was summoned by another Servant. This rule comes from how the word "assassin" itself finds its etymological roots in that clan. The Assassins' special ability is Presence Concealment, which allows them to remain undetected. Offset by their stealth is their weak combat skills. Due to this, Assassins often target Masters instead of Servants.

Berserker: Servants placed within this class are always heroes who have gone berserk in their lifetime. This trait allows them to use the special ability Mad Enhancement, which trades their consciousness (i.e. sanity) for a large power boost. Most Masters are incapable of controlling their Servant once Mad Enhancement has been activated, which eventually results in their death.

Selections
I do not know how many players I will be accepting yet, but unless we get an incredibly low amount of apps, the Magi and Servants will be player by separate players. Feel free to apply for either or both positions with the following templates

Magi
Character Name
Age
Gender
Alignment

Physical Description (images are a plus)
If desired, include measurements to gauge height/body size/etc.

Personality (Be as in depth with this as possible, this game is about moral choices and ideologies, it will serve you well)

Ideologies/Motivations (Describe why you are going after the holy grail, what are the motivations and driving forces behind your character. Why are you here and what do you want to accomplish.)

History and Background (Be thorough and in depth with this, the more descriptive and detailed you are with your background, the better. It fleshes out your character and gives purpose to them.)

Key Points of Background (From your own background, pick 3 key points and offer a brief description of them. These key points should be associated to something that makes your character who they are. An aristocratic mage would have a prestigeous family, and as such a key point fitting that would be a noble family lineage for example. These points turn into benefits for your character)

Notable Characters (Include as little or as many associations and people you wish in this category. These are NPCs that will interact with you and many others throughout the course of the game)

Servant
NOTE: Servant Identity is to be kept secret, told only to me, and later your maji (or even not him/her). Part of the benefit the Servants enjoy is their secret identity.

Servant Class and Name of the Historical/Fictional/Mythological Character being used

Servant appearance (images are a plus)

Personality (Be as in depth with this as possible, this game is about moral choices and ideologies, it will serve you well)

Connection to the Servant (All servants are summoned by masters who share something with them. In the case of Shirou, both he and Saber are self-sacrificing and honorable to a fault, doing what they can to help those in need even at their own detriment)

Servants Goals (Why is this servant seeking the Holy Grail, what wish do they hope to make upon this grail. And to what extent do they seek out its blessing)

Summoning Ritual (Describe in detail the ritual that took place to summon this servant. Describe the components used, materials utilized in the spell. More often than not, the summoning requires an object of some origin associated to the Servant. For example, Saber in Fate Stay Night was originally summoned with the use of Excalibur's sheath)

Servant History with Sources (The more in depth this is, the better.)

For prospective DM's:
I will likely be running alot of people this game, and I will need some help. This being my 1st game to be DM'd, I dont think ill be able to handle more than 3 teams (6 people). However, if I get some help running the game from people agreeing to be Co-DM's, then I do believe I can field more players.
