The year is 2010. The cold war never really ended, and thus the constant threat of military force is ever present, on both sides of the iron curtain. Wars are not fought between nations anymore, but between ideals, between the United Nations and the Axis of Independent People's Republics. Nations are battlegrounds and sources of troops, not competing countries.
The threat of rising nuclear weaponry has halted all-out war between these two factions for the most part, creating an uneasy peace as both sides build up their armaments and research new weaponry, all the while hoping not to use them. This does not mean that violence and warfare does not take place, but the UN and AIPR officially have no hand in it.
You are part of a mercenary task force called Mythril. Made up of all members of the UN (Western Europe, North America, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, South China, India, Israel, West Germany, Australia, New Zealand) this task force is not official, and it is technically not sanctioned by the UN or its members. In reality it is a mercenary unit, the largest mercenary unit in known existence. You are currently stationed on the Tuatha De Danaan, a mobile weapons platform submarine considered to be the largest and most advanced of its class. From this underwater headquarters you and the other agents of the SRTF (Special Reconnaissance Task Force) stage your missions.
As of late you have been investigating what appears to be a rather large and organized terrorist cell. Its name, headquarters, and command structure are unknown at the moment, but from the weapons caches you have managed to find it is likely that they have some connection to the KGB, or at least have access to AIPR technology.
You have just completed a raid on what your intelligence seems to think was a staging ground of this cellís operatives in Cambodia and returned to the Danaan for debriefing.
