Character Creation

This thread is for creating characters after you've been admitted to the game. Please do not post here without my permission.

Character creation follows the instructions in the Remastered Alpha Dawn with the following exceptions:

1. Use the new skill system in Frontiersman #9 with optional advancement

2. Use optional starting wealth from Alpha Dawn, near the end of the book

3. I will consider the Mentalist for one PC if there is a strong concept.

All Rolls for character creation are made in this thread.

Step 1

Procedures for Character creation begin on page 28 of Alpha Dawn Remastered. A basic summary:

When rolling Ability Scores, roll 1d100 four times, consult the chart below for the value. The values are the same for the ability pairs: STR/STA, DEX/RS, INT/LOG and PER/LDR. If you roll 63 for STR/STA, your scores are 50/50. These points can be shifted within the ability pair up to 10. So that 50/50 can be 40/60, 45/55, or reverse. You cannot move points from one pair to another.*

d100 ----- Score
01-10 ----- 30 Feeble
11-20 ----- 35 Poor
21-35 ----- 40 Below Average
36-55 ----- 45 Average
56-70 ----- 50 Above Average
71-80 ----- 55 Good
81-90 ----- 60 Excellent
91-95 ----- 65 Remarkable
96-00 ----- 70 Incredible

Non-humans get modifiers tot he scores based on species strengths and weaknesses. Humans may add 5 to any one of the eight scores, not both in the pair. For example, a human could add 5 to RS only, going from 50/50 to 50/55.

*Mentalist has an exception to this rule.

Step 2

Frontiersman #9 presents "A Skilled Frontier", a proposed new system for skills in the game. I will try it for this adventure.

This system introduces the concept of Primary, Secondary an Tertiary Skill Areas (PSA, SSA, TSA.)

There are nine skill areas: Agent, Artisit, Linguist, Military, Pilot, Scholar, Scientist, Scout, and Tech.

Every beginning character chooses one (1) PSA, Two (2) SSA's and the rest of them are TSA. This decision cannot be changed later. Each character begins with three (3) skills at Level 1. One MUST come from the PSA. One must be from either PSA or SSA and the third can come from any SA.

These are three separate skills, not three skill levels.

Step 3

Variable Wealth

Once you have rolled your ability scores, modified them for race, worked out your secondary scores and chosen your skills, roll 1d100 on the table below to determine how much money your character starts with.

01-20 ---- Poorly Equipped ---- (d100+100Cr.)
21-70 ---- Typical ---- (d100+250Cr.)
71-85 ---- Well-Equipped ---- (d100+500Cr.)
86-95 ---- Very Well-Equipped ---- (d100+750Cr.)
96-00 ---- Extremely Well-Equipped ---- (d100+1000Cr.)

You may purchase any equipment in the Alpha Dawn book that you can afford without prior approval. Any equipment you want from any other source (Zebulon's Guide, Knight Hawks, any Frontiersman issue) check with me first.

When we roll our wealth, should we roll the next d100 under the wealth stat to determine our starting credits or would you like to roll that and give us our credits? Also would it be possible to switch the wealth roll with a stat roll? If not I am fine with that. When you say three skills at level 1, do you mean in your Primary PSA and Secondary PSA? Or do you mean that three in total.

Well, you all kind of jumped the gun here; first line of the thread says to wait for my permission. No retcons though, leave things as they are. You may as well go ahead and roll the actual credit figure, yes. No, you cannot substitute rolls. You get three total skills, spread among all of your PSAs, with the stated limitations, ie. one must come from your primary, the second can be from primary or secondary, and the third can be from any PSA. You should have three skills only, all at Level 1.

@d_ns: It is hard to tell with the vrusk mods how you allocated the stat rolls. Did you keep them in order, or did you place them where you want? The standard is to roll the scores in order, but I am fond of Optional Rule 1 in the box on page 29 of Remastered Alpha Dawn. Please give me a breakdown, thanks.

I'm working out the Greyfalcon Stadard Issue Gear. Once I have it, I will post it here.

My stat rolls worked out to 45, 50, 55, and 60. I placed the 60 in INT/LOG, added 5 due to being Vrusk and then moved 10 points into LOG from INT. PER/LDR got the low score, with five points moved from PER into LDR. I put the 55 into DEX/RS and boosted DEX at the expense of RS, and put the 50 into STR/STA, dropped by 5 due to being Vrusk and favored Stamina over Strength by 10.

With the standard gear package, I'll reserve the right to try to go back and get that laser rifle I wanted, but couldn't afford. :)
