Golden Sun: Eternal Night
 

Weyard is in peril! Though the empires and people of the world live in blinding prosperity, an untold darkness is approaching. A touch of discord starts it all: a conflict between the humans of Alhafra and the Beastmen of Garoh sends sparks that threaten to ignite the entire world. Behind it all a sinister force lurks in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike and claim ultimate power. Will the fate that the Ancients were afraid of come to pass? Will Weyard be destroyed by the power of Alchemy...or saved by it?

The Game

Welcome to Golden Sun: Eternal Night. This is a Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition game based on the successful Gameboy Advance RPG series Golden Sun. What's that? You say there was a game on the DS? I think you're crazy. That's crazy talk. GET OUT.

Aherm, where was I? The game takes place 500 years after the end of Golden Sun 2. If you have not played Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2, be warned that there are tremendous spoilers for those games here. Alchemy is no longer a myth: it is the driving force of the world, catapulting it towards powerful technologies and philosophy. In this world, almost all people are adepts, tugging at the elemental fabric of reality to create what they desire out of it. This is the world of Weyard, 500 years after the dawn of the Golden Sun.

What I'm Looking For

I am looking for 5 players to enter this mysetrious world full of surprises and wonder with me. I am looking for a balanced team (that means a Defender, Striker, Leader and Controller) with 1 wild card. All specific setting information can be found here, while all houserule information can be found here.

Also, I hope you like gaming without experience points, because there are no experience points in this game. You will be awarded levels when appropriate, at a rate that could be described as "frequent."

What Classes/Races are allowed

I will start with what is not allowed: nothing from Heroes of Shadow will be allowed in this game. By association, this also means no classes that use the Shadow power source will be allowed. If you had your heart set on something from these two fields, I apologize, but I simply won't let you.

When it comes to character races, only 7 races exist in Eternal Night. The races include human, Proxian (Dragonborn), Lemurian (Eladrin), Beastmen (Shifter), Dwarves, Treants (Wilden) and Ascended (Genasi). All background information on these races can be found here. Humans and Lemurians look the same (as in no long pointy elf ears!), save for the defining characteristics of Lemurians (aquamarine hair and either blue or green eyes).

Also, when you pick your class, remember to choose one of the mandatory backgrounds provided in the houserules thread: your background is exceptionally important for this game, and you can't go without it! Themes will not be allowed.

When Does the Ad Close?

This ad will close either on the 13th of September, or if/when I decide I like enough of the entries to make a selection.

Suppose we don't mind spoilers. Would potential players still be at a disadvantage for not being familiar with the existing games?

It's hard to say. I have put together a good amount of information about the setting and believe I've covered all the important points. You won't get as much out of it if you haven't played Golden Sun, but I don't believe you'll be at a disadvantage.

Can you give an approximate level range the game will be playing in?

I am hoping to get into Epic gameplay, but more than likely the game will end somewhere around mid to late paragon.

I suppose I should add that I don't doll out XP. I simply give people levels when it feels appropriate. This means that you'll be leveling faster than you normally would, at least to some degree. I prefer to focus on fun rather than figuring out what amount of XP to give.

Oh god, Golden Sun game!! Squee!!

Oh god, 4E game... and I just sold most of my booms. Grr. :(

That series is truly excellent, I can still remember starting GS1 at night... I couldn't see squat, but I didn't care! I'll have to consider joining this, even if I haven't played 4E for ages.

Oh God, the nostalgia! I remember loving the GBA games, and the game is interesting... I haven't played it in years though, so I'll need to see if I can remember enough to pull an interesting character together. I hope so.

I've played both GBA Golden Sun games but not the DS one yet. Okay you don't think it 'exists' (XP) but let me just clarify, that means I wouldn't get spoiled in the DS case, right? Because I do plan on playing it no matter what anyone says. >_>

Very cool concept. I am wondering how you're going to work the powers vs the adept type. Working on an app now.
