This is an "old" Encounters Season, the first of a story-line that I feel is going to be significant to the future of the Forgotten Realms. Characters will start at 1st level and get to 3rd by the end. This is not written as a huge role playing opportunity, however, there is no reason we cannot make it such. I will be picking submissions that show the player's ability to help tell a great story. I hope to expand on the role playing.

CHARACTER CREATION: Standard 1st level character creation rules. Any race or class. Please pick from the following themes and backgrounds:

• Bloodsworn - You have a vendetta against a particular Underdark race. Good for Drow. 1st level power, Encounter, reroll an At-Will power while bloodied.
• Deep Delver - knows how to expertly navigate the Underdark.+2 Dungeoneering. 1st level power, reroll dungeoneering check.
• Escaped Thrall - Former prisoner of an Underdark race. You gain a power point. 1st level pwer, Encounter, Interrupt, when hit by charm attack you gain psychic resistance. Augmentable - you can save at beginning not end on the charm effect.
• Treasure Hunter - self explanatory. 1st level power, Daily, for an hour +4 to history, perception, streetwise and thievery on ONE particular item.
• Trapsmith - Make and disarm traps. Gain a trapmaking kit. 1st level power, Encounter, reaction, damage and target grants CA.
• Underdark Envoy - ambassador or diplomat between Underdark races. 1st level power, encounter, ranged, target grants CA and you do extra damage on a next attack.
• Underdark Outcast - Banished from home underground. 1st level power, encounter, +2 att and defeses until EoNT.

• Shadowdale - +2 Diplomacy or Nature. Add Diplomacy or Nature to Class' skill list
• Myth Drannor - +2 Arcana or Nature. Add Arcana or Nature to Class' skill list
• Deep Wastes - +2 Dungeoneering or Nature. Add Dungeoneering or Nature to Class' skill list

Character History:All this young life, Codren wanted nothing more than to become powerful enough to honor Kelemvor by destroying undead. Not receiving a divine call, he began to study the ways of the War Wizard. Leaving his home he traveled to finished his studies in the places where undead roam freely. After his training he realized that his current situation was just too dangerous for a young wizard to practice his craft. Now he is out on his own looking for a way to make a name for himself and to grow in power
Character Description: Codren, like many of his people, is shorter and thinner than a normal humanoid. At five feet six inches he only weights about 125 lbs. His pale skin is currently bereft of the scars his people use to mark their achievements. He wears his dark hair long. His clothing, while bright in color, also have strips of bright red cloth, wrapped in place around his body. His black, pupil free eyes adds a rather grim look to his pale facial features.
Personality:Very serious. Lives for today. Willing to take chances. As with most Shadar-ki he is out to prove himself by gaining power and prestige. He tells every one it is to honor his god, but some may think it is just to honor himself.

Notable Mechanics: Primarily uses implement powers to fight at midrange. Has the Arcane Trapsmith feat.

Throughout the span of his many lives, Kivan has revered and served gods of knowledge and creation, delighting in the privilege of bearing witness to the gradual advance of civilization and technology. In his current incarnation, he found himself reborn in Myth Drannor and gained a new appreciation for the wonders of arcane magic, how it paralleled and complimented the divine powers he had mastered over and over. He decided to commit this life to adding something worthwhile to the world, rather than simply protecting what others had built or learned as he had always done before, and spent many years refining the craft of artifice, each new creation devoted to gods like Moradin and Oghma. He has dabbled in alchemy, but has only mastered basic healing draughts or salves for the most part, preferring the ordered beauty of the mechanical arts. Believing he has refined his skills to a reasonable level of mastery, Kivan has now set out to find divine inspiration and opportunities for his inventions to bring light into the world.

Intuitive and curious, Kivan sometimes allows the usual self-controlled facade most deva cultivate to falter when confronted with the new and exciting, and tends to ask a lot of questions. He loves and excels at puzzles and riddles, and thrives on new intellectual challenges; he constantly tinkers with his inventions to add new concepts and ideas he has encountered, and often has to restrain himself from taking things apart to see what makes them tick. His brightness is tempered by a deep hatred that has built over lifetimes for those who would hide or destroy knowledge that could benefit the world, and of course a racial abhorrence for any evil or self-serving individual. He disdains the mess and savagery of physical combat, keeping enemies at bay with his magic and several devices he has built for personal defense; however, he values the lives of others above his own, and will not hesitate to put himself in danger to protect the innocent or weak.

Just over six feet tall, Kivan's skin is an ashen grey, darker angular patterns crossing his skin; his hair is a similar shade of dark grey, worn in a long, neat ponytail. He is somewhat lanky and thin, though not unhealthily so. He typically wears less flowing clothing than most of his kind, though he prefers to when not travelling; unfortunately, such loose attire tend to get in his way when working. He instead makes use of leather garments and robes with many loops and pockets to hold numerous tools and spare parts, along with arcane devices of his own design in various states of completion. Even the decorative wings that many devas wear are actually functional in his case, clockwork contraptions that retract or quiver on occasion, though he has yet to figure out how to make them flight-capable. He also wears a halo-like ring of metal around his head adorned with a variety of lenses and other ocular apparatuses that can be swiveled into place when needed.

I'm interested in this game, but I'm not particularly familiar with the setting, and even less so in 4e.
Beyond that, I think it's been about 2 years since I had a meaningful 4e game, and I'm rather behind on access to source material.

All that told, would this game have a place for a halfling storm sorcerer on a quest for personal wealth and power lighting the depths of the underdark with blinding flashes of light and filling its caverns with deafening blasts of thunder?

I don't mind "newbies". Give me an app and I will suggest a theme and background for you.

Would there be any issues if I apped with a drow rogue? If yes, I'm planning on taking Underdark Outcast as the theme, and Deep Wastes as the background option. I haven't played 4e for a long time, so I hope its alright.

Outwardly grim and cold, the drow rogue can cut an intimidating figure. A little less than six feet with a lean build, she prefers practical clothing. In her line of "work", robes and other finery don't cut it (unless in a swindle). On the move, she carries what she needs with her in a worn backpack.

[spoiler=Personality] Though she possesses a morbid, and sometimes caustic sense of humor. With the destruction her house and home, she's prefers to look out mainly for herself.

Someone beat me to another concept though. I was going to go for a genasi swordmage, but I can't get much of it down. Plus, I don't have access to other Underdark races.
