She grew up in the city. Smart money says she'll even die in the city. Just not this city. Val was born in Chicago, spent her first eighteen years or so growing up spitting distance from the Great Lakes. These days she lives in a small apartment, 317, on the corner of E 88th St. and 4th Avenue. Her parents divorced when she was fifteen, but it wasn't a terribly big deal, they had drifted apart for a number of years. She stayed with one or the other every other week; she got along with them well enough, but you can't say she wasn't happy to get away. She's currently a Freshman enrolled at NYU, about thirty blocks distance from her apartment. She commutes six days a week to go to class, though on a couple of occasions she's stayed home, essentially taking a day off. When she's not at school, she can be found pretty reliably at her job, boldly manning the register at a small convenience store a few blocks away for minimum wage. She has a tiny bit of other income which comes from a small, but respectable stock portfolio she manages herself. She's hardly an expert with market trends, she seems to just stumble into great opportunities. She's only been in school for a couple months, and though she gets along well enough with classmates and such, she doesn't attract an awful lot of attention as a person, nor as a student. She's pretty non-confrontational, and despite above average looks, she tends to do a pretty good job of avoiding notice. Regardless, there's a few people she'd consider her "Friends". Jasper, a guy who stops by the convenience store a lot and hangs out with her, tends to alleviate the boredom of having a job that amounts to sitting in a chair for eight hours, handling about three customers from start to finish. She also became fast friends with a girl named Jackie, who she met after being partnered up with her for a chem lab.
