Personality Traits
Reed is relaxed, confident, and easygoing. He can be very charming, but hates leadership. He is perfectly content to let others do the strategic work; he prefers to focus on his part of the fight. He is flexible both with his own goals and the law of the land, which has landed him in trouble before. Despite the air of nonchalance he projects, though, Reed is still a kind-hearted soul. He has also been known as the Scoundrel of Springerlan.
Mannerisms and Appearance
Messy brown hair strays into the hooded gray eyes of this halfling. His dark brown leather armor is visible through the neck slit of his tunic, and a beautiful rapier rests in his scabbard. A few scars crisscross his hands as evidence of past combats, but he wears a small grin and leans back against any handy surface.
Session and Campaign Notes
Companions and Allies
Farashiel, Elven Avenger of the Raven Queen Reed finds her easygoing behavior a good counter for a typical avenger's zealous actions. She's one of the few willing to laugh at his awful puns. Vengar Lightbringer, Human Paladin of Bahamut Reed can't help but respect the bravery (or foolishness) it takes to charge into a pack of armored demonic lizards. Besides, someone has to be quieter than Reed. Randolph of Chiras, Shifter Cleric of Kord The halfling once again finds Randolph's devotion not at all annoying; the shifter is quite personable. And Reed never forgets a debt, even if he is a thief. Yaneth Kantar, Drow Invoker of Corellon Yaneth is everything Reed is not: serious, quiet, and perceptive. He's smart enough to recognize that the purple-skinned priestess is an excellent foil and wouldn't think of questioning her place in the party. Chaffie Barnstone, Human Warden Sincere and kind yet powerful and reckless, Chaffie is a perfect defender to pull Reed out of the scrapes and skirmishes he seems to attract constantly. Her endless good humor helps her want to save him, as well.
Background & Other Notes
Reed was born into a middle-class merchant family--tailors--in the town of Springerlan. His mother died in childbirth, but it is not a loss he feels heavily. He had no talent for tailoring, but showed amazing talent for negotiation and haggling. His father put him in charge of the store front, but Reed hated how monotonous shop life was. With his boredom mounting, Reed wandered the streets at night. One fateful night--everyone has one--a cutpurse approached the halfling and attempted to relieve him of his cash. Reed, with his amazing yet untrained reflexes, caught the thief, and a scuffle ensued. He and the thief--a full grown human--beat each other bloody. The halfling came out the victor, if only because he was smaller and too stubborn to stop punching. The thief, a young man named Kylar, took an instant liking to Reed, and they struck up a friendship. Reed became an apprentice of sorts, and learned the art of stealth and the rush of the steal. Reed's father died naturally, and the halfling inherited the business. Reed sold off all he could, rented a small room in an inn, and became a full time thief. Employing his natural charm, he and Kylar began completing more and more elaborate heists. They amassed a small fortune, and were living comfortably. There was a girl who came to market every few months, a farmer's girl named Abby, with whom Reed became close friends with during this time. He would steal trinkets for her, and she would take them, blushing madly. One day, however, Reed was wandering the streets of Springerlan when he saw the duke's favorite servant, a knight that the peasants called the Dog, but never to his face. The Dog saw the farmer's girl, Abby, who had entered town for the market day, and offered the father several gold pieces for one night with her. The father, disgusted, did not forget his manners when he refused. The Dog's cronies, at their leader's command, struck the farmer and kidnapped Abby. Reed gave chase, but one of the Dog's cronies struck him on the head, and he lost consciousness. Days later, Reed found Abby's body. Hatred beyond words enveloped the halfling, and for two years he spent every waking moment either spying on the Dog, harrying the knight and his plans, or studying swordplay. Kylar and Reed argued bitterly during this time, as Reed was spending his small fortune on fencing lessons, and Kylar felt is was a waste. One day, Reed awoke to find the thief gone with most of the money. The halfling carried on. When he was ready, he challenged the Dog to a duel, and won, barely. However, when the knight died on Reed's blade, the young would-be avenger was labeled a murderer and a brigand, and he fled. Since then, he has become an adventurer, and makes attempts at vigilantism, because he feels political power only corrupts. Having witnessed the cruelties of the Dog and the Duke's tacit involvement, Reed especially distrusts nobility.
