Description
Standing nearly six and a half feet tall, Sojourner is surprisingly thin for his height. He/it appears very skeletal in comparison with other warforged, or would if a hooded robe didn't cover most of his figure. His forearms swell out into normal sized hands, though, and his lower legs are wide enough to balance adequately. He wears a sweepingly large, deep purple hooded robe, fastened only around his waist with a heavy belt. A pair of spellbooks hang from over-the-shoulder straps at one side. His eyes glow a faint indigo, and he has no visible jaw, producing speech without having to move. His only other gear is a pack strapped to his back.
Personality
Sojourner is fascinated by most kinds of knowledge, and seeks to prevent a reinstatement of the Last War at any reasonable cost. He sees a certain kind of beauty in an orderly and peaceful society, and will further the aims of the Crown in attempting to establish said peace. Sojourner is neither cruel nor particularly compassionate. While he can see a sort of logic behind aiding your fellow sentient, empathy simply does not come easily to him - although he has come to like and appreciate his teammates. Wanton cruelty escapes him entirely, though, and threatens the society that he wishes to see constructed. He is likely to react harshly to eliminate practitioners of it if it will not jeaopordize his mission.

Sojourner doesn't know it, but he began life as a project of S.H.I.E.L.D. Seven years ago, "Fury" contacted House Cannith - discreetly, of course - and requested a warforged unit with a solid grasp of the arcane arts and the ability to protect himself at close range. Merrix D'Cannith, busy with other projects, fobbed the majority of the initial design work off on Auria D'Cannith, a promising apprentice at the time. The problem of making warforged casters had long plagued Cannith. Warforged were agile enough for most things, but the structure and composite plating made them too clumsy to cast spells successfully more than 95% of the time - and since most of them were going to the front lines to support living soldiers, a 5% failure chance was unacceptable. Auria wrestled with the problem for a while before finally settling on a minimalist approach - with help from Merrix on some of the more difficult aspects, she was able to remove the composite plating from the original warforged design, and the greater freedom of movement would finally bring a nearly perfect success rate to spellcasting. This left the troubling problem of melee combat protection. To counteract the understrength structural defenses, Auria created a design with a higher power requirement and even greater agility. She and Merrix, who had finally joined in on the project in full, then added to this his latest and greatest warforged mind, into which they instilled a solid understanding of Arcane Theory and, in one final stroke of genius from Auria, advanced Martial Arts instruction from the Cannith Libraries. So it came to pass that Arcane Caster Unit 001 emerged from the Soulforge, a full year after Fury made his request, with the ability to cast fireballs and give a respectable fighter a run for their money in melee combat, unarmored and unarmed as it was. The creation cost was too high for large scale production, but the experiment was certainly successful enough for Fury's purposes. Thrilled, they made the arrangements to ship ACU-001 to Fury's designated drop zone. ACU-001 never arrived. To this day, Cannith doesn't know how such a monumental screwup occured, but upon activation ACU-001 found itself on the front lines. The Brelish commander he was serving initially used him as a support unit, deep in friendly territory, not understanding that the lack of armor wasn't a defect, and certainly not guessing that a spellcasting warforged had been produced. ACU-001 carried out orders to the letter, though, despite the gross underutilization of its abilities. After all, it was a warforged, and its place was to serve, wasn't it? This changed when the camp ACU-001 was serving in fell under heavy attack. The outer defenses were quickly overrun, and the commander ordered that "all" units make a "fighting retreat." With more than a little relief, ACU-001 cut loose, launching a pair of fireballs into the forces bearing down on the commander himself and wading in as the commander looked on, stunned. ACU's performance wasn't enough to turn the tide of battle, but it did allow a substantial portion of the camp to make good their escape. The commander quickly interrogated ACU-001 on the full range of its abilities and sent a message to House Cannith, thinking he had made a remarkable discovery, that ACU's spellcasting was a spontaneous development. House Cannith was suddenly made aware of their error. They quietly notified S.H.I.E.L.D.'s contact, and were just as quietly told by a rather irritated Fury not to bother him again. So Cannith sent back the message, "No mistake, ACU-001 is yours." From that point, ACU joined the other battle mages for the remainder of the war, advancing its arcane potential and furthering its martial arts. The other mages took a liking to ACU-001, eventually slipping into calling it a he, and ultimately giving him the nickname Sojourner, named after a Warforged Titan that one of them had worked on some thirty years before. The war finally played itself out, and with the Treaty of Thronehold, Sojourner was made a person and released to his own devices. Sojourner was confused, initially, about what he was supposed to do. He wandered into a library and was quickly enthralled, soaking up as much knowledge as he could on as many subjects as he could. For the next year, his curiosity grew, and he ultimately ended up joining an adventuring group for the purposes of furthering his knowledge and experiences. He didn't stay with the group for long, though, as their tracker had an unfortunate tendency to treat him as property rather than an individual, and he knew he wasn't property - the law said so. It was during this time that he learned of such concepts as predjudice, dislike, passion, greed, compassion, cruelty, and even a bit about love - the adventurers had a more normal life than he was accustomed to, and this allowed him to learn of many of the values and teachings that most humans pick up on in their early adulthood. He returned to the libraries and began an intensive study of history. The vast majority of his life had been spent in service to an army fighting in a long, long, war, and he wanted to know what it had all been about. He came to the disturbing conclusion that an unfortunate number of living beings, and governments, would eventually destabilize the world governing dynamic and cause another war. Fearful that perhaps such an event would bind him into service again, to say nothing of the hardship and destruction that would be inflicted on others, he began seeking methods to aid in the stabilization of the shaky Thronehold Treaty. Through intensive research, he eventually discovered traces of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s activities. S.H.I.E.L.D. had long since had an eye on him, wondering why a warforged was so curious about them, and when they were convinced that he wasn't a spy, recruited him. He quickly agreed to serve in whatever capacity they needed him in, offering his intense repitoire of knowledge, arcane abilities, and martial arts. And so, ACU-001 "Sojourner" now serves S.H.I.E.L.D. as he was always meant to. He believes, very strongly, in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s activities and strives to make himself as useful as he can, while learning as much as he can. His time with S.H.I.E.L.D. so far has been fascinating, to say the least, and as the Selene's Revenge bore down on Korth, he wondered what this mission would reveal...
