Hundreds of years ago, Copper's ancestor served the High Lord as a guard commander. That ancestor was killed by Dorothea's agents, but not because the ancestor was a target of importance to Dorothea. The ancestor was a pawn in Dorothea's plan to kill someone she considered a credible threat. Ever since then, Copper's family has sworn to enact revenge on Dorothea. Copper's father, Trent, named Copper for the color of his hair. Trent was an able military instructor, and personally taught Copper how to be a scout for the military. Trent also taught Copper hatred of Dorothea. Trent seemed consumed by that hate, often screaming in his sleep. Copper never asked his father why he felt the hatred so strongly. Copper accepted that Dorothea was a bad person, and he accepted that his father may not be completely sane. Trent was always keeping an ear open for any rumors of rebels fighting against Dorothea. The most powerful person he found out about was a queen by the name of Lady Mythlye. He immedietly did everything he could to gain audience with the Lady. When he finally managed to do so, she listened to him for two minutes before declaring him too old to be useful. Trent nearly broke down, but then he told her that his son was a much younger and equally capable fighter. She allowed Copper her audience and decided that he could be a useful member of the lower courts. She told Trent that Copper could never see him again, that any contact between them could encourage rumors of the queen's opposition to Dorothea. Trent agreed hastily, and told Copper that he could come home if he ever destroyed Dorothea. Copper quickly grew to enjoy life away from his father. He did have a will to defeat Dorothea, but it was quickly becoming a personal quest as he heard about the current misdeeds of Dorothea. Copper also grew to respect Lady Mythlye as a capable queen. Copper's greatest fear is that he will develop his father's personality. His associates claim that the fear is misguided, as Copper's greatest fault is his lack of any personality at all. With time away from his father, this is slowly changing.
