Description
Lean and wiry, with black hair, grey eyes and handsome, chiselled features. Regius is well-groomed, well-dressed, and places great significance in his appearance. Over his leather armour he wears expensive and rather ostentatious clothing, bejewelled and trimmed with lace, and the slightest stain or blemish will irritate him to no end.
Personality
Rather spiteful and arrogrant, he is convinced that he is the greatest swordsman in the land and enjoys using his blade to teach lessons to those who offend or disagree with him. He has little empathy for others, particularly those who he feels are beneath him (which includes the vast majority of the populace).
Character Traits
Character Flaws

Regius is the only son of Aegar de Lyer, a minor noble from the town of Barette, a dust-filled, sun-baked settlement in an obscure and rather remote region. The family's noble lineage is distant and tenuous at best, but this does not stop them lording it over the peasantry and middle-classes that make up the bulk of the population in their area. The de Lyers are disliked, even hated by some, for what is seen as a false sense of grandeur and the fact that they see nothing wrong with trampling on those below them on the social ladder. As a child, Regius wanted for nothing and spent his early years cosseted behind the walls of the family mansion. He was incredibly spoiled, and could do no wrong in the eyes of his parents, even when he took to bullying the servants, often in a horrendous fashion that left them both physically and mentally scarred. Many of them came to fear him, and it became so that the eight year old boy was hated down in the town even more than his tyrranical father. Apart from terrorising the help, the other outlet for his boredom was his fencing tuition, under the instruction of a renowned swordsman from the local area, one Quintus Calibra. Quintus was virtually the only person who would not tolerate Regius' impertinence, and the young noble found himself grudgingly respectful of the swordsman's no-nonsense approach and strict manner. They would practice for hours each day, with Regius absorbing the lessons like a sponge. By the age of seventeen, Regius - now a rather tall and wiry fellow - was at a stage where he consistently bested his tutor in their mock duels, leading Quintus to conclude at the end of one of their sessions that he could teach the boy no more. He had imparted every piece of knowledge that he had, and it was now up to Regius to learn by himself, to go beyond what Quintus could teach him. Shocked and upset by the pronouncement, Regius flew into a rage and attacked his instructor. The attack was unexpected, and Quintus had no chance to defend himself before Regius skewered him through the stomach. The incident was covered up and hushed over by the de Lyers, and the story was that Quintus had simply left town. After wrestling with his guilt for weeks, Regius sought to redeem himself by putting every ounce of his energy into mastering the blade, practising for hours each day, and well into the night. Occasionally he would venture into town, or even into the parched and arid countryside, picking fights and testing his skills against real opponents. Each time, the duel was one sided and over in moments, and all that Regius achieved was to increase the hatred of him and his family even more. Gradually, the situation became untenable, and the de Lyers found themselves besieged by a mob of furious townsfolk, sick of being used like animals for the nobles' sport. As a concession (and to preserve his own life and estate), Aegar promised to send his son away to some far off place to do some "soul searching" and exhaust his excess energy. Regius was horrified, but had little choice - the next day a carriage was prepared and he was driven to a town some two days' north of Barette. The carriage returned without him, leaving him with some bare essentials and a warning not to return for at least five years. At first Regius was furious and swore revenge on the town of Barette, his family included, but as days turned into weeks, and weeks became months, he began to find a strange enjoyment in the wandering lifestyle, as he travelled from town to town, living off his wits and his blade. He soon came to realise that wherever he went, there was no one who could match him in single combat, and this spurred him on to achieve two goals: to become even better with the sword, and to find someone who would present a challenge. So far, the former is going well, though he has yet to progress the latter.
