Description
Aranis Mithlaseer stands at around average height. His red hair is cut short compared to most elves, most likely with combat in mind. He's dressed in a mithral breastplate, with the chain under it sparkling under most light conditions. A red tabard hangs front and back, belted down over the armor at the waist. A highly sylized greatsword hangs from his back, with a swirling pattern of set diamond dust in the hilt, and a wicked looking dull grey blade that shimmers oddly, as though in the wrong kind of light. Aranis is *very* good looking, and knows it.
Personality
Aranis is confident and self assured, and this translates to a laid back, easygoing demeanor that transforms into ironclad determination when threatened, or nigh-effervescent enthusiasm when confronted with a promising adventure. Aranis is very proud of his heritage and accomplishments, so far, and isn't too proud to admit that he's slightly vain. His more critical flaw by far, though, is his curiosity coupled with a dangerous lack of caution. So far, his skills and abilities have helped him avoid the worst consequences of that combination, but the Isle of the Black Sorcerer may call him to account...

Contacts / Friends
Aranis is operating as one of the scouts/spies/diplomats of the Sun Elf nation operating out of Myth Drannor. If he runs into a member of his homeland's clergy, they will almost certainly recognize him as one of their own. The odds of such a meeting are somewhat low, however.
Enemies
Aranis does not, at the moment, have any particluar entity he could call a nemisis - those people he has come into conflict with on his travels have either resolved their differences with him, or else have been killed or arrested.

Aranis Mithlaseer was born and raised in the reclaimed wonder of Myth Drannor. A somewhat minor member of the aristocratic heirarchy, Aranis was never short on opportunity. He received a fine basic education, good martial training, and learned of the arcane ways and noble history of his people. The problem was his general lack of the famed Sun Elf wisdom. It wasn't necessarily that he couldn't see or understand that certain activities might be dangerous or have negative consequences, as that he couldn't see why it wouldn't be worth it to find out. As such, his kinsmen were wary of teaching him the arcane arts, and in private, Aranis admitted that he might not be cut out for that life either. Fortunately, he did have other talents - he was a fine swordsman, and possessed an incredible personality - and the elves of Myth Drannor had no shortage of openings for heavily armed diplomats... So it came to pass that Aranis Mythlaseer joined his people's clergy/goverment, not as a priest - the Seldarine wouldn't trust him with the most basic of orisons - but as one of their holy warriors. And ultimately, for a culture that was founded on and of magic, there were ways around a lack of inherent magical ability and training. Aranis was slightly foolhardy, not stupid, and easily passed the initiation rituals to become an Anointed Knight of the Seldarine. Even now, the magic of an alchemical blessing is firmly woven into his flesh. So empowered, Aranis was sent forth into the world, to observe and occasionally report home on distant events, as well as fulfill his duties as a paladin and holy warrior. He made his way across the lands, moving pretty much at random, and for a few years, discharged his duties very well. He was in Luskan at the time the call for adventurers went out, and the possibility that this Black Sorcerer threat was real was important enough to catch his attention - enough so that he contacted the official Drannoraen Ambassador that very day... ... Two elves stood in the Luskan street. It was late, but one of the benefits of being an elf was the ability to keep long hours. They stood in the middle of the road, which was ironically the only place to have a private conversation. After dark, the alleyways of Luskan are more crowded than the thoroughfares. Their conversation was barely at the level of a whisper. Due to the circumstances, the talk is somewhat stilted and awkward. "...And the Host Tower is certain of the scope of the threat?" Aranis nodded. "They seemed positive." "Indeed. You were right to bring this to our attention, Aranis. It could just be a rumor, but you are correct - we must send someone to investigate." Aranis's eyes lit up and he smiled. "True. I nominate myself." "You?" The ambasador's eyebrows rose. "Why? This island is likely to be full of hardships and dangers even if this Black Sorcerer is nothing but a legend. Are you discontent with your current assignment?" "Not at all. But I am already equipped and packed for hard travel. Additionally, there is a group of... let us call them *rugged* individuals also planning to investigate. Most of them seem a decent enough sort to me - I did not sense any real darkness from any of them. In such company, I may be safer than whoever Myth Drannor decides to send officially, and my talents may help their expedition survive. If the legend is true and we are lucky, we may be able to end the threat before more drastic action is necessary." The ambassador frowned. "I see. I wonder, though, how much of that is nothing more than rationalization. I know of you, Aranis Mithlaseer, and while I do not contest that you are a largely positive influence on the realms and an asset to our people, I doubt that the prospect of an unexplored magical island didn't factor into your decision." Aranis chuckled softly. "Guilty as charged, my lord. The final decision is yours, though." "Mmm..." the ambassador closed his eyes and thought it through. "Very well, Mithlaseer. Go join this expedition, find out what you can, and if the corrupting influence exists, use whatever means you have, within reason, to destroy it." "Very good, my lord. If you will excuse me, then, I need to inform the Host Tower of 'my' decision." Some days later, Aranis found himself looking at the infamous Isle from the deck of the ship that brought him here. He grinned fiercly, in a way that would make the clerics at home cringe. "Alright then," he says to no one in particular, "let's see what you've got."
