Personality Traits
Mannerisms and Appearance
Tavian's skin is deeply tanned and mostly covered with patches of dark, coarse hair. The longer hair on his head and running down to between his shoulders in a sort of psuedo-mane is tightly braided, with various colorful shells and feathers woven into it. His golden eyes sit deeply socketed underneath his thick brow and his thin, almost hare-lipped lips barely conceal sharp, predatory teeth. His armor, gear, and totem bear an obviously wetland theme with bits of crustacean, snake, turtle, and alligator making up the whole. He speaks in a thick, seemingly ignorant accent with idioms and allusions not common to those of more urban or agrarian society.

Background & Other Notes
Born to a literally backwater tribe of shifters, Tavian grew up in simple, or what city folk might call impoverished, conditions. Yes, material wealth was lacking, and status was measured by the color of the feathers or the number and quality of shells that adorned one's hair rather than how much silk or gold one owned, but the 'swamp shifters' never lacked food and could get all outside goods they needed by trading in fish, exotic flora and fauna, and in offering guidance through their difficult to navigate demesne. All in all, it was a good, if not mostly uneventful, life. However, during a regular terrapin hunt with his cousins a young teen aged Tavian had a transcendental experience that altered his life forever. Despite traveling no more than a few feet away from his cousins in his hunt, Tavian suddenly found himself completely alone and in an unfamiliar portion of the swamp. Not only was the area itself unfamiliar, but all of the plants, birds and insects around him seemed different. Everything was brighter, more alive, and almost ethereal. Tavian called out, and hearing a rustling ahead of him he rushed forward, hoping that one of his cousins was about and might be able to give him some answers as to what had happened. However, what Tavian found on the other side of the brush was a large cat. No, not just large, unusually large, easily three or four times bigger than the regular fishing cats that were commonly seen about. The cat seemed calm and at ease and as Tavian came into view it merely looked up at him with its large golden eyes, exactly like his own. After that, Tavian wasn't sure exactly what happened. All he knew is that hours later he arrived at the edge of his village, his family rushing to him to see if he was alright as they had feared the worst after his cousins had returned without him, saying that he had apparently vanished without a trace. Tavian told his strange story and was brought before the village elders so that it may be interpreted. The elders decided that Tavian had met the swamp's guardian spirit and that, more importantly, it had favored him by returning him to the tribe rather than leaving him lost in its world. The confused child was immediately rushed into his spiritual training and, to none of the elders' surprise, excelled at it. It wasn't long before Tavian had mastered how to alter his form at will, call upon the power's of the primal spirits, and to perform the rituals that allowed him to exert control over some of the world's natural denizens. It is now years later and the nearly thirty year old Tavian has set off on the next stage of his spiritual development. He has done much for his tribe, but now he has set off on a quest to discover more of the world's spirits and to let them guide him towards some ultimate destiny. He may yet return to his tribe, but he will not likely do it unless the spirits give him some sign that he is ready.
