Description
Pretty by human standards, but totally uninterested in such things, Alyssa is tall and slender with brown hair and eyes that are so brown they almost look black. Her complexion is pale from hours and hours in the towers.
Personality
Most of her fellow students at the arcanum referred to Alyssa as the Walking Grimoire. She loves to learn, and considers knowledge to be the only thing worth gaining. She tends to be unfocused on what is going on around her; lost in her own thoughts which are usually of greater interest to her. She is more than a little bit of the absent-minded academic. Under this, however, there is a deep-seated love of adventure, nurtured by all of the stories she heard as a young girl. She seems to be a bookworm, but inside her there is an explorer trying to get out.
Character Traits
1) Absent Minded (+1 to all knowledge skills; -1 to listen & spot checks) 2) Bibliophile [Detriment: Any time the character sees a book, scroll, or any piece of printed material, they must make a will save (DC 18). If they fail, they will dedicate themselves to reading the material. If the writing is in another language, they will still attempt to read it. A character with the Bibliophile trait cannot go for more than two days without reading. If they do, they take a cumulative -1 per two days on all mental tasks. Benefit: A character with the Bibliophile trait can read at quadruple the normal rate. They can determine the gist (Treat all languages as mundane, even magical script, and gain +4 to Decipher Script checks) of all writings, even if they cannot read the language.]

Goal: Learn everything there is to know about magic... and everything else. She wishes someday to become a loremaster - a role she respects more than any other. She has always admired what she's learned of the elves, their longer lifespan in which to learn more - their natural talent with magic. She would love to meet and interact more with that race, for she finds them truly fascinating. Role: Alyssa realizes that in adventuring circumstances, a wizard's role is to be versatile with her spells and boost her comrades' abilities. She is particularly adept with some evocations, but does not see blasting enemies as her primary role. Background: Alyssa was an orphan who worked for her uncle who kept an inn, the Raven's Court. Braskin kept his niece quite overworked with more than her share of the tasks needed to make an inn run succesfully. Travelers ocassionally forgot things at the inn, and any book left behind was quickly claimed by the young girl to be read in the light of the embers of the fire as the inn's common room closed for the night - thus she acquired a rather eclectic starting education. Her life was drudgery, save for this and one other thing - listening to the stories of adventure, travel, and strange creatures which travellers shared with each other as they passed through. This life changed when she claimed another forgotten book, but perusing it, she found it full of strange arcane formulas and concepts that made no sense. She puzzled over the book for several nights til it's owner, a wandering mage returned to claim it back. When Braskin shouted for his niece and barged into her tiny room under the stairs, both he and the mage were amazed to see the girl holding a ball of blue light in her hand using it to read the spellbook. Somehow, she had managed to teach herself a cantrip from the wizard's original spellbook from when he had been an apprentice. Unwilling to let such obvious talent escape, Caramon the Mage paid off Braskin to allow him to take the girl as his apprentice. Working with him, she quickly mastered all the lore he could teach her, and was able to show ability as a beginning mage to occasionally cast higher-order spells. Caramon realized that having planted her on the road to knowledge, Alyssa could only truly blossom if she were to attend the Arcanum, the premier wizard's collegium. Using several favors he'd aquired - he saw to it that she became the youngest student to be accepted at that institution. Now, a scant few years later, she has emerged as an exceptional journeyman wizard, ready to try her knowledge out and perhaps make some contributions to arcane lore herself.
