Description
Bearing the spotted markings and the head of a cheetah, Nera stands about average height for her kind - perhaps a little shorter than the average human. Leather armor adorns her lithe frame beneath a billowing brown cloak, the hood often pulled up over her head. A rapier hangs from her belt beneath the cloak, and the backpack of an itinerant traveler is slung off her shoulders. She does not walk, so much as she dashes from place to place, always keeping a wary eye on her surroundings. She wears her light brown hair cut short and level with her chin. Braided into her hair are a number of small tokens from her past.
Personality
Inquisitive to a fault, Nera always has to stick her nose where it doesn't belong, and at times her deft fingers follow her the lead of her nose. Nera has a mercurial temperament - she is quick to anger and just as quick to forgive. She does not hide her emotions well, and is usually quick to speak her mind around those she trusts. She usually tries to avoid direct confrontations, but when pushed to defend herself she can be a fierce opponent.

Background: The Catfolk are nomads as much by choice as by being forced to keep on the move by the Crusaders. They seldom stay long in any one place and tend to avoid large population centers of the self-righteous humans. She grew up learning to hunt for the Tribe like her mother, never staying long in any one place. By the time she was twelve, she was a respected Hunter among the Running Brook Tribe. Her father was a Thief-Taker, one of the best in Gramaine. People, Catfolk or not, would come to him and ask him to recover a stolen object, or capture some miscreant, and he would inevitably bring the object or the person back to them. Of course, he charged more to capture the thief than to simply return what was stolen. One such job where his client paid for him to bring a thief and murderer back alive to face trial took Nera and her father to a city when she was fourteen, almost an adult among her race. It was the first time she had come close enough to see one, and at first she was overwhelmed as much by the number of people crowded into it's walls, as by the size of the walls and buildings themselves - she refused to leave her father's side for more than a few minutes while they were in the city. In order to protect her, her father taught her the ways of thieves, the arts of sleight of hand and stealth, and how their prey thought. Nera took to his training as quickly as she had taken to hunting, constantly pointing out the similarities between the two to her father. Almost a year later, Nera who found their mark, though her father was the one to capture him - a Cleric of Pelor who had murdered a number of Catfolk when they refused to turn their backs on Obad-Hai for what they saw as the Cleric's self-possessed and arrogant hypocrisy. The Catfolk were fully aware of Pelor's teachings, and could see plainly how the humans had corrupted them with their own greed and vanity. Backstory: Nera was separated from her Tribe soon after returning with the merderous Cleric. Some of his fellow Crusaders tracked them down and attacked her Tribe's encampment. Seeing the brutal fighting between her friends and family and the vile Crusaders, Nera panicked and ran. She found her way to the city her father had brought her to and she has been on her own now for a little more than a year. Her curious nature got her into plenty of trouble in the beginning, trying to work as a Thief-Taker like her father had. Eventually, through the amount of debts she had accumulated, she found herself all but enslaved to a thieves' guild because of her deft fingers, until one of the guild's members forced her into doing a job that ended with her being caught by the priests of Heironeous. Nera took this as her way out of the abusive Guild, agreeing to serve her time patiently in the jail in return for honest work when she was free. She had learned valuable things while a member of the Guild, and could put that knowledge to use as a Thief-Taker to track the Guild's members and bring them in. For the last six months, she has been making a reputation for herself as the person to go to if you need something, or someone, found quickly and discreetly, though like her father she charges more to find people than she does to find a stolen item. Of course, for matters involving the Church of Heironeous, she charges nothing. Her life and continued freedom are her payment as far as that priesthood is concerned, she is barely even an indentured servant in their eyes.
