Ok, Miksi is a bard that tries to avoid all combat ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Earned XP: 200XP ... first award, intro and such 500XP ... end of chapter 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background Name: Miksidonal Alcandel Race: Gnome Class(es): Bardic Sage Alignment: CG Patron Deity: Fharlanghn Description: A short Forest Gnome approaching venerable age. He wears a most outlandish attire, a foppish hat, loose fitting colorful clothing made of silk and finest linen. At his side he has a rapier, small, almost smaller than a well made dagger, but it fits him well. Personality: Exurberrant, out-going, confident in himself. Cheerful and curious, always ready with a word or tale. Background: This is the story Miksidonal tells the Council when asked about himself. Miksidonal Alcandel smiles and stretches up to his full height, all 2' 3" of it, almost to the hemline of the skirts the barmaids wear down at the Broken Tiller. "Ahem ... well, talk about myself? Ah ... yes ... well that could take a bit, but, Good Sirs and Ladies, I can assure you that if you are willing to listen, I am most willing to talk. You see, that is what I do best. Whether it is the simple plain-spoken speech of the common folk, or high-minded art of Diplomacy. I have spent a lifetime learning to tell the tales of my fore-fathers and mothers. So, please, sit back and listen, and I'll explain how your invitation to see the great Dragon Nurelf'an Alakzur got my attention." Miksidonal reaches down and picks up his lute, he begins to strum it, not a song really so much as just an idle tune, something to keep his fingers busy, even as he looks around the room, deciding exactly what type of audience he has, whether they want a short, quick explanation, or do they have the stamina, the fortitude to listen to the real story, the whole story, the Truth of the Telling. Then, having made up his mind, he smiles again. "Long ago, in a time of Myth, it was said that Nurelf'an Alakzur would rise every few generations and reform his armies, gather his followers and attempt to destroy the more civilized races. But, it was not myth, for my Grandfather's father lived through such a time, and he passed on his stories which made their way to me. In fact, my great-grandfather got touched, so to speak, by the Great Lizard, it left a mark upon him, and his descendants. Lucky he was to survive that touching, but I can see you do not need that Tale now. Perhaps during dinner, when it can be told with a proper tune would be better? So, where was I? Ah, yes, the story of the Awakening speaks of how the Great Lizard shook off the lethargy of the Ages and sought out the remants of his unholy Nation. He gathered them together at his lair, deep within the Dragon Bone Mountains. Which is a most curious name I think you will all agree. A name that had its origins in the fall of the greatest dragon of known history." Miksidonal pauses "but, that is a tale for another Telling. No, it is sufficient to know that Nurelf'an Alakzur abides there, slumbering through the ages till some internal, infernal thought awakens him and pushes him to again wreak his havoc upon the Land. I heard these stories as a small boy, growing up in the Forest of Ilcanture, over to the east. They intrigued me so much that I left those forests and journeyed to the south to see these mountains for myself. That journey was frought with danger and I learned much about survival from it. More importantly, I heard rumors that some of those folk that so plagued my brethren also lived there, serving the Lizards on occasion. So, once I determined that continuing to pursue a myth would not be healthy at so young an age, I turned my attention to seeking out those folk, those kobolds. For, you see, I had never seen one. And despite being raised to loathe them, I knew that all stories are embellished, and changed with the Telling, so to know the Truth of these creatures, I would need to find them and see for myself." Miksidonal again pauses in his telling, and raises a small flask from his waist, taking a quick drink. "Ah, a parched dry throat does not easily allow speech, but that has now been solved. So ... where was I? Oh, yes, the kobolds. Well, in my travels I heard of a most strange kobold, one that didn't exactly act like a kobold could be expected to act. So, I went to find out more. After all, what is more important than knowing the history of things, where they were formed, what formed them and where they might go next? Of what use is a thing if it doesn't have a good story behind it? So, after some time, I found what I think was the original tribe from which this kobold sprang. Now, it took a bit of doing, but I managed to convince a few that I really wasn't there to eat their young ones nor kill the old ones. Never have I spoken for so long and learned so little, but I at least had a name, Mrog'nik" At this, Miksidonal turns to face one of the others that had been led in and nods his head at the smallest member of group, the only member shorter than himself. "Yes, just a name, and a most interesting story behind it. But, I'll let her tell that. It would be rude of me to presume to know more about her than she would have known." With a flourish, and few strums, he continues "Now, I had a name, and a new goal, to find this most interesting kobold, an outcast among a race of possible outcasts. But, her trail was old, and following it through rumours and luck took some time, years in fact. I have the time, thanks to the gods, and it was time well spent for following her led me to new stories, new adventures, and knowledge that could not be obtained from dusty books on shelves in dusty rooms with men and women to old and tired to clean them. I traveled the land, and finally, one day, I caught up with her. But, I then learned a most important lesson. A glib tongue doesn't always soothe an irate kobold. She put me in my place right quickly and I knew then that I had to travel with her, watch her, protect and aid her when I could, stay out of her way at other times. And, if I could do that, I would get to see first hand the actions of a Hero in the making. So, for the first time in my life, I begged, I, Miksidonal Alcandel actually begged to be allowed to watch and learn and write and sing about the accomplishments of another. It was an unheard of moment but, well, it seemed to have turned out ok." "Now, as we travelled together, we heard your call. I knew that I had to answer it. A call for Heros? To do Daring Deeds? To save a realm, face the very embodiment of Fear and Evil? An epic tale in the making, a story to tell my children's children. At least if I had any children to have children that is. But, there is still time for that and I might already have a few but can't be sure." Miksidonal smiles a little ruefully. "There have been a lot of taverns and even more damsels and songs. But, well, I am among rather polite company, so I hope you'll ignore my indiscretions and understand that good tales aren't always obtained from good living, in a manner of speaking." Miksidonal turns his attention more fully to his lute, his small fingers begin to fly across the strings, the sound of the lute amplified in the chamber, no longer just a pleasant, almost unheard background sound, now it begins to take on a life of its own, the music rising and falling, keeping time with the hearbeat of the moment. Miksidonal laughs, and it sounds like water tumbling along in the stream bed, the laugh becomes part of the song. Shall I sing for you? End this long tale with a more lighthearted moment? Then, hear, hear in song what was said in words. The Lizard rose again from slumber, nestled under the mountain deep. Who knows what thoughts pass through the rumble of the snores of a Dragon asleep? But up arose Nurelf'an Alakzur, a beast no mere mortal may defeat, The best to hope for is to send him back to another millenium of sleep. Great-grandfather saw him, his mighty wings a downdraft beat, As he soared, so dreadful a beauty, a sight to keep. Mountains crumbled, rivers rampaged, towns burned by his breathe with ease. His armies marched and killed and plundered, all done to appease. Then Heros came, men and women, mere mortals in earthly shell. They fought the Dragon across the mountains, across the rivers, to the gates of Hell. Their might was greater, their cause victorious, they slew the armies of the beast. But the Dragon did not falter, did not stumble, his strength to great for them to fell. The Heros stood against his greatness, stood and fought and died as well. But in that moment, as death overtook them, a final action each Hero tries. They found a way to drive the Dragon back to his lair, to sleep, to close he eyes. For if they could not kill him outright, at least they could postpone his rise. The actions taken, the beast then slumbered, and the mighty Heros died. But what they did, and how they did it, no one living knows that tale. All that's known is that they succeeded and in so doing, they died well. With honor and a story worth telling, they slumber in death by the dragon's side. Now again the dragon wakens, threatens to bring the evil upon us all again. So Heros gather to learn and listen, to find a way to seek his end. We must not fail, we must be bold, we must relinquish all if we're to win. And, this has brought us here together, to save the Realm, and our way of life. Miksidonal finishes with a final flourish, then bowing to the throne, and the assembled, he returns to this seat, places the lute beside him, and a wry smile crosses his face "I so want to be the Bard that gets to Tell this Tale." ------------------- Action Points ------------------ Well, not everyone voted, but those who did vote presented a unanimous decision to elect Jo Jampa as the first winner of the game. What does this mean? Well, let me tell you a few things at least. 1) It means that you in particular are awesome in the eyes of the majority of the players and in all likelihood, more than that. 2) If being awesome wasn't enough, there is more to come. For instance, you are now the proud owner of an Action Point, the very first and only action point that you guys even know about, not that the rest of your characters know about this action point anyways, but I digress. 3) What is an action point and what does it do? An action point is similar to the one in Eberron Campaign Setting, which allows for certain things like rerolling of a crappy die roll, adding a d6 to a die roll for whatever reason, things of this nature. I take action points down a slightly different path, a more powerful path. In my eyes, an action point is a means for you to affect change. Be bold, be creative, but be wise because there is only one at the moment. There will be more, but not for a while. You may try whatever you want to try with your action point, but it ultimately has to be cleared by me. So if it is something too outlandish, there is the possibility for it to be rejected and for you to lose your action point on a dream. Congratulations Jo Jampa. Effect of orb: I basically gave you an internal mithral body, see eberron campaign setting. This gives a warforged certain traits, but for you it will be different and the difference will be as follows: You Gain: * +4 Armor Bonus, which can be enhanced as standard armor (unfortunately, this does not stack with your chain shirt, although with the bonuses below your armor class will not change.) * +2 Dexterity, the bionic nature of the transformation has made you more nimble and spry * +2 Tumble, see above * +2 Strength, the bionic nature of the transformation has replaced your joints, ligaments, tendons and bones and as such you are mechanically much stronger than before * +4 Jump, Climb; see above * As a warforged, you do not heal the same as others do from cure or heal spells. You instead heal half hit points from such spells, rounded down, of course. Your healing belt was altered in the transformation. The wish was as thorough as it could be. * You receive a natural slam attack that deals 1d3 for your size category, I believe... Not that you'll use it ever. * I really want to give you damage reduction but there is too much hesitation for me to do so. On a serious note, if you can come up with a reasonable argument why this new form should receive some sort of DR, I am all ears. Don't think of it as you arguing for you to get DR, think of it as a discussion of a home brew template that was just created from a wish, limited or not. * Your weight has not changed much, if anything you've lost a few pounds. (skeletal pounds of course, nothing to reduce the tubby nature of an old gnome's stomach...) That's all I can think of. If you want I can make you vulnerable to electricity... That's a joke. Laugh. Anyways, enjoy!
