Background & Other Notes
1) A brief synopsis of the character: what is their role in a running team? What do they do well? Major weaknesses? Steir is a hacker, through and through. If it's connected to the Matrix, he can make it his own. He's a force to be reckoned with in AR, and damn near unstoppable in VR. Like any true nerd, his weaknesses lie in the physical world. He's never been in a fist-fight, let alone a fire-fight. He's spent time at the corporate gun club though, and has learned his way around a shotgun. 2) Character sheet. http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetvie...sheetid=269941 3) Motivation for being a shadowrunner. Steir's been a wageslave his entire life, albeit better off than most. He was born to a stay at home mother and an upper-middle manager at Ares Corp. Long story short, the glamorization of shadowrunning in the media and his own discontent at the long hours and tight scrutiny led him to spend his life savings and invest in some personal top-of-the-line equipment and software. He quit his job at Ares as a Network Security Specialist, and having paid off his implants years before, dropped off the grid with his final paycheck and all remaining funds placed onto certified credsticks. 4) Personality. He's got that odd brand of humor that only nerds find funny. Quoting obscure trids and the like. He's a bit awkward around the lady-folk, and has never been married. He's definitely not a team leader, but knows the proper execution of a good plan. He's a newbie runner, and as such is prone to screwing up some lingo. But as a hacker, he is more than capable. 5) Background. 'Execute search "Steir Ulstein"' Born: Steir Erick Ulstein DOB: 02/02/2033 Place of Birth: Harborview Medical 325 Ninth Avenue Seattle, Washington. Delivering physician: Dr. John Scantz, PhD Weight: 8lbs, 11oz Parents: Jon Ulstein, Miranda Ulstein Schools attended: Ares Great Start Prep School, Graduated with diploma. University of Washington, graduated with Bachelor of Sciences Marital Status: NONE Offspring: NONE Consumer Profile: Save file View File Employment: Employed by Ares Corp 2055 through 2071, voluntarily terminated employment July 17th, 2071 END OF LIST That's what you'd see with a quick Matrix search of Steir's background. He went to school at an Ares private education center for employee's children, and graduated, but did not do exceptionally well, simply an average student. He signed a contract with Ares our of high school and received a full scholarship to the University of Washington, where his general education was passable, but he excelled within their marvelous computer sciences division. Graduating from U-Dub in 2055, he immediately went to work for Ares as a Network Security Consultant, as per his contract. He was implanted with standard cyberware upgrades(which were of course deducted from his pay), and quickly made a bit a name for himself as a spider within the corporation. He fried his share of wannabee hackers as they tried to penetrate his systems, and shredded a few more with thermographically-equipped autocannons as the fools attempted to sneak in through a physical back door. It was BORING. With the resources of a Megacorp behind him, it was difficult to find anything to challenge his abilites. After the Crash of '64 and the rise and glamorization of shadowrunners, the thought had wormed it's way into his head. Why not do what they do? It was a daunting proposition however, giving up the comfy corporate life for to live payout-to-payout, living off pure skill rather than corporate pension. In '71 though, he'd had enough. With corporate security becoming ever tighter, and scrutiny over his comings and goings outside of work being ever more omnipresent, he was ready for a change. Gone were the days of frying some wirehead hacker for probing about. Too many lawsuits from the bereaved. He tendered his resignation to Ares and transferred his funds to certified credsticks, setting about purchasing his new life. He knew someone of his skill would be of value as a runner, and kept in contact with a friend at Ares who may be able to help him with a job opportunity, and maybe even a team. 6) What sort of jobs do they usually take on? E.g. wetwork, datasteals, close cover, sabotage, security, investigations, black mail, etc. What sort of jobs will they NOT take on, if any? Steir isn't suited for wetwork, unless he bought a drone for it. Datasteals seem to him to be a cake walk, as is any sort of digital sabotoge, investigation or black mail. He would have qualms with a straight out physical assassination, but the proxy effect of a drone would allow him to go through with it. Always keeping in mind, the only experience he has with shadowrunning is keeping them out of his network.
