Phase One
If you've heard about it in a country song, odds are Jenny has seen it, heard it, or had a relative who's lived it. Her father was in prison when she was born, she lives in a trailer park, and it's rumored that her uncle shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. Her life has been filled with small joys, heartaches, and more prison visits than any young girl should make. Her father eventually got out on parole and her mother got a job down at the value mart. Life hasn't been easy, but her parents love her and they manage to put clothes on her back and food on the table. Her father even started singing down at the Lobo Bar. Granted, she still goes to school in second hand clothing and most of the kids call her “Trailer Trash.” But she holds her head high, because her daddy is gonna be a country music star. Truth be told, he's not all that bad. But if one were to lay odds on one of the family becoming a star, you'd be smart to lay them on Jenny. The young woman has the voice of an angel and a lifetime of listening to old country and western music has given her all the education she needs. When she sings the few who hear her stand up and take notice. She's just that good. Chances are that someday she might even sign a record deal.

Phase Two
Lately things have gotten really weird for Jenny. And it all started because she stood up to a few young hoodlums and saved a cat. Jenny was walking home from school one evening when she heard several boys laughing and the screams of some poor animal. A kind soul and animal lover, Jenny skulked up to the old abandoned parking lot and saw four boys tormenting a young cat. She suddenly saw red and launched herself at the boys with no thought at all for her safety. She might have been all of 100 pounds sopping wet but her sheer anger and scratching nails set the boys aback. They took one swing at her and then retreated when she started flailing at them with her book-filled backpack. The poor cat was badly hurt and she quickly rushed it to her grandmother, one of the oldest women in the trailer park and a rumored witch. Her granny did what she could and the two women sat up all night to stand vigil. Sometime after midnight granny nodded off and Jenny stepped outside to get some air. She barely stifled a yelp when the most beautiful woman she'd ever seen sashayed into the park. Her skin was a dusky brown and her eyes were golden orbs filled with ancient wisdom. She took one look at Jenny and then moved close in the blink of an eye. The power of the strange woman was overwhelming and Jenny couldn't do anything but stand and stare. The ancient woman smiled faintly and said nothing before leaning down to kiss her very gently upon the forehead. Jenny felt a strange tingle of power rush down her spine and when she blinked again the woman was gone. For you see, the cat Jenny rescued was no ordinary cat (not that any cats are ordinary). It was a Noble of the Feline Court, the eyes and ears of the Goddess Bast. Jenny had unwittingly done a great favor for the Goddess and Bast had blessed Jenny. She was now an honorary cat. And since cats are innately magical creatures now Jenny was magical too. That happened a few months ago and Jenny has been doing her very best to deal with things as best she can. She's been seeing some crazy things and she can't look anyone in the eyes without seeing into their soul. Which is the last problem a teenager needs. Even stranger is the fact that she can see perfectly in the dark and that she seems to have some strange understanding with most cats. Like they can almost understand her and talk right on back. She's thought about asking granny about this, but so far she's kept it to herself and started wearing sunglasses when she can. Her teachers think she's on drugs and her parents have even started asking strange questions that Jenny can't answer. But she's been looking for answers as fast as she can. Perhaps the strange old house on the edge of town might hold them.

Personality / Description
Jenny is usually a quiet and unassuming young woman. Years of teasing and ridicule have taught her that the best way to survive is by not being seen. Which is a shame, since she's actually quite personable and possessed of a beautiful voice. Recently she's even started avoiding all forms of eye contact, focusing on her shoes or a spot somewhere between the nose and the neck. Coupled with her recent magical troubles is the fact that Jenny has started to enter the full bloom of her womanhood. The pimples have faded and her figure has just started to fill out. She might be acting weirdly but the boys have started to think that it's not quite that important.

The Egyptian God awakened her latent potential and enlisted her as one of his psychopomp's, or soul guides. Now Jenny can speak, perceive, and deal with ghosts and spirits. She also possesses mystical senses and the ability to "weigh ones heart." This has given her a good deal of power, but now she has to deal with the problems of her patron.[/ooc] Trouble [ooc=Weighing of the Heart]Jenny takes her status as a psychopomp seriously. She constantly strives to make sure that the hearts of both the living and the dead are light enough to balance against a feather. She's a shoulder to cry on, a counselor in need, and a guide to the lost. There's very little she won't do to lighten the burdens of another. This also extends to herself, as she strikes to keep faith with Ma'at, so that her own heart will balance when her time to pass on comes.[/ooc] Other Aspects [ooc=Country Song Upbringing]Talk to Jenny long enough and her life story really begins to sound like a bad country western song. Her father went to prison, her dog died, her family drives a pickup truck, and she lives in a trailer park. Most folks consider her family “Poor White Trash.” Of course this life has also taught her to be resourceful and fortunately enough she has enough skill in music to actually make her life story sound good.[/ooc] [ooc=Secrets of the Dead]Many folk expect someone who talks to dead people to be focused on the past. And while Jenny has gleaned a lot of history from various shades, she knows full well that ghosts know about the modern world as well. Once you take the time to sit and chat with a ghost you can learn a surprising amount of information about nearly anything. At this point Jenny has a small army of ghostly contacts who are more than willing to give her the skinny on local happenings.[/ooc] [ooc=Packrat]As a consequence of growing up poor, Jenny has learned to never throw away anything that might be useful or fixed up later. While she's definitely not a hoarder, she does tend to carry around a lot of very strange and random objects. Many of them end up being useful in ritual work, but sometimes she just carries around junk. Still, you never know when salt packets and a bit of string are going to be useful.[/ooc] [ooc=Words ARE Weapons]While Jenny has learned the basics of self-defense, she still prefers to conversation to combat. The dangers she's faced have shown her that sometimes violent action is needed, but it's never going to be her first solution. To really bring the point home, Jenny has learned the importance of True Names and the power they hold.[/ooc] [ooc=That Creepy Girl]Jenny has a certain reputation in school and around town; the creepy girl. Such reputations are impossible to avoid when you avoid eye contact and talk to figures no one else can perceive. Add to that the constant rumors that she actually conjures up the dead and you have a recipe for social disaster. Of course this can be handy if you actually want to intimidate someone.[/ooc] Stress Physical: OOO Mental: OOO Social: OOOO Consequences: [r=2,2]Skills Great (+4): Lore Good (+3): Empathy, Presence, Rapport Fair (+2): Conviction, Discipline, Performance Average (+1): Alertness, Athletics, Endurance, Scholarship, Weapons Stunts [ooc=Dead Friends (Lore)]You can use your Lore instead of Contacts to find and make contacts in the spirit world. Spirits gain a +1 on their Contacts rolls to find you, too.[/ooc] Powers [-1] [ooc=Ghost Speaker]See the Dead. You have no problems perceiving the presence of spirits and ghosts, unless they are deliberately trying to conceal themselves - in which case it’s Investigation (or Alertness) vs. Stealth. Seen by the Dead. Spirits and ghosts have no problem perceiving you as well, regardless of how tenuous their manifestation is (page 170) - they recognize you as a conduit to the mortal world and will readily come forward to contact you. This means such creatures will see and find you more easily than other people, when all other factors are equal. Spirits get a +2 when trying to perceive or locate you. Speak to the Dead. You can speak and otherwise communicate directly with ghosts and other invisible or incorporeal spirits, without any need to perform thaumaturgy. Seek the Dead. The dead seek you out, and it goes the other way as well - enough so that you can use Contacts to seek out information and specific individuals among the dead.[/ooc] [-1] [ooc=Marked By Power]Anubis has marked Jenny as his own. This mark is usually intangible, but in areas closely associated with death an inky representation of the scales of Anubis manifest on the skin over Jenny's heart. Aegis of Respect. Anubis has marked you as his own. It's not that the mark provides any actual protection, but magically aware people and creatures can perceive this mark upon you and word tends to get around that you've been "claimed." Whenever dealing with someone in the magical community, all of your social skill rolls operate at a +1 bonus. The downside, of course, is that people tend to see you as a representative of Anubis, which can lead to some uncomfortable entanglements and assumptions. If you absolutely must conceal this mark, you can, but it takes some concentration - use any appropriate skill (Stealth or Deceit, usually) restricted by Discipline to do so, but you can't do anything stressful (like combat) without dropping the concealment.[/ooc] [-2] [ooc=Ritual (Ectomancy)]Ritual. You are able to use Thaumaturgy as described on page 261, but your use is restricted to ecotmancy (page 285). Item Slots. Four Enchanted Item Slots (page 279).[/ooc] [-1] [ooc=The Sight]Arcane Senses. Even with your third eye closed you have heightened arcane senses. You may use Lore as if it were an arcane Investigation skill as well as an arcane Alertness skill. You also gains +1 to Lore when using it in this fashion. Wizard's Touch. As another aspect of your arcane senses, when you touch another being who has some magic potential, the GM may ask you to roll Lore to catch just a hint of a "spark" - indicating their nature as something other than mundanely mortal. Even on a failed roll, you might experience some sort of sense that something is "off," without being able to pin it down. Opening the Third Eye. You may use the Sight to fully open your third eye, with all of the risks and rewards that come with it. See page 223 for details on how the Sight works.[/ooc] [-0] [ooc=Soulgaze]Soulgaze. You are subject to the uses and effects of Soulgaze as described on page 226. Application of the Sight [+1].[/ooc] [-0] [ooc=Wizard's Constitution]Total Recovery. You are able to recover from physical harm that would leave a normal person permanently damaged. You can recover totally from any consequence - excluding extreme physical ones - with no other excuse besides time; simply waiting long enough will eventually heal you completely. Long Life. As a side-effect of her improved ability to recover from injury, your lifespan is significantly extended.[/ooc] [r=1,3]Equipment [ooc=Apparel]Jenny generally dressed in sturdy, second hand clothing. She prefers t-shirts, cargo pants, and sturdy boots. She never goes far without her Gris-Gris, a gift from Muriel.[/ooc] [ooc=Backpack]It's an old army surplus job, well loved and heavily patched. Jenny usually carries all manner of strange things inside. Packets of sugar and salt from fast food restaurants, old crayons, candles, an emergency blanket, glow sticks, and whatever else she's managed to scrounge.[/ooc] [ooc=Khopesh]This fine steel Khopesh has been etched with small hieroglyphics and the hilt has been wrapped in supple leather. It was a gift from Anubis and is of fine craftsmanship but otherwise unremarkable. It functions as a Weapon:2 sword.[/ooc] [r=2,3]Focus/Enchanted Items [ooc=Book of the Dead]This small leather bound book has been completely hand-made from scratch. The papyrus pages have been written in a special ink filled with the ashes of the dead. The writing is all in Egyptian Hieroglyphics and it also contains many diagrams. It is Jenny's personal book of the dead and the instructions inside aid her magic. Focus Item: +1 Ectomancy Complexity[/ooc] [ooc=Bag of Holding]Strange runes and hieroglyphics have been worked into the leather of this old backpack. While it looks just like an old and well-loved backpack, it actually contains much more inside than would appear. In reality the objects stored in the bag are actually kept in a small out of the way place in the Underworld, allowing the bag to hold much more than normal. Jenny enchanted it to hold all of the various magical supplies she needs. Effect: Twice per session this bag can be used to produce the JUST THE THING I NEED aspect. This aspect can then be invoked to produce a mundane item that could reasonably be put inside the opening or a backpack. This item can also be used as justification for carrying around a lot of odd little items. Session Uses: 2 (0 Used)[/ooc]
