Description
Wyn is moderately tall (especially for members of his community) and muscular. He looks like a once well-built man go slightly to seed, as his ascetic lifestyle has taken its toll on his body. Nonetheless, his muscles are strong and wiry. His skin is brown, both from natural coloring and sun browning. Wyn keeps his head shaved in the manner of all devotees of Naashanya, and has Naashanya's holy symbol (a vertical red line under an upside-down gray semi-circle) drawn on his forehead in ash and red powder. He wears a saffron-colored robe that wraps around his waist, is thrown loosely over his shoulder, and is belted with a strand of rope.
Personality
Wyn is normally quite easygoing and friendly, if a bit reserved and spacey due to his long periods of isolation. He is intensely spiritual (often spending hours lost in meditation), fanatically devoted to Naashanya, and extremely spartan in his personal habits. He owns nothing, nor will he accept any material possessions from the arena masters with the exception of the meager meals he consumes. If forced to accept something of material value, he will dispose of it somehow, usually giving it away. Wyn is constantly conflicted by his newfound profession. He is still a devotee of a deity of destruction (though in the guise of a destroyer of evil), and as such possesses significant martial skill and a bit of a penchant for violence. However, his first instinct is not to violence, and he is frequently experiences emotional distress as a result of his lifestyle. Unlike most barbarians however, his rage isn’t a manifestation of his anger or a berserk tactic, but rather a spiritual state brought about by his devotion to Naashanya.

Backstory/History: The highlands far to the south are a frigid, sparsely populated, and forbidding region of high steppes and often-frozen valleys. Only a few small groups of people live there, concentrated in small villages huddled against rock formations and mountainsides for shelter from the bitter winds and blowing snow of the long winters. These people eke a meager existence from the landscape, herding such animals as can survive on the tough steppe grasses and cultivating those few plants, lichens, and fungi that survive in the cold. Vivek Narayan was a member of one of the southernmost of these communities, the son of the village leader who had dreams of expansion and nation-building. Through various methods, Vivek’s father had already asserted his control over a few of the nearest villages. However, he knew that his lifespan was limited and looked to Vivek to carry on with the expansion of their family’s power. Vivek, however, had interests that transcended the political and military. From his early childhood, Vivek had been taught by his mother to be devoted to Naashanya, the god who governs over the destructive properties of nature (specifically the cold and storms that dominated local weather patterns). Instead of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming village headman, Vivek aspired to live the life of an ascetic, worshipping Naashanya and serving his people. Vivek’s father was understandably displeased with his only son’s ambitions, but had no other recourse until his wife gave birth to Vivek’s younger brother, Ajit, who showed much more promise than Vivek as he grew older. Realizing that Vivek had no more value to the family and was an embarrassment to him and his village, Vivek’s father conspired against his eldest son. Leading him out into hills to the north of the village, Vivek’s father left him to die on the hillside. For days Vivek hovered between life and death, wandering the hillsides looking for shelter. One day, overcome by exposure and hunger, he collapsed in a shallow cave, too weak to remain conscious. Miraculously, he was discovered by a local herder in search of a lost mountain goat and slowly nursed back to health. Vivek, exceedingly grateful to his benefactor, remained on the outskirts of the village, living in caves and helping around the village as he could. After only a few weeks in the village, news came of a raid from the empire to the north, whose control over the area was tenuous. Extremely disturbed, the villagers set about preparing to defend their village, but it was to no avail. When the raid reached them, Vivek participated in the defense and was overcome with his devotion to Naashanya during battle, harnessing the power of the cold to fuel his martial prowess. Despite the efforts of Vivek and the other defenders, the village was overrun and the survivors scattered. Vivek was once again thrust into the wilderness. He wandered for days, trying to find another village to live alongside, until he eventually made his way out of the highlands and into the plains to the north. He changed his name to Wyn Evan to better blend into his new home, and continued his itinerant lifestyle, teaching and helping where he could, fighting when he must, and trying to serve Naashanya.
