Description

Personality
Pleasant and a bit pretentious. He tends to judge people based on how strong they are. He cares little for academic conversation even though he is quite intelligent. Most of his smarts are book learning. Still, his mother invested him with wise sayings, that he depends on for wisdom.

Roy tells his story thus: My mother insisted I study wizardry. She always claimed it was my destiny to continue her work. She was a brilliant sage-- the wise woman of the river. People came to her for miles around to ask her help and advice, since she was one of the few such knowledgeable folk around. My family loved and respected her, and I tried to keep up with my studies. However, I was an active lad. I was always running with the local boys, scuffling and fighting. I loved to fight. I loved sports. I grew strong, real strong. Every chance I got I would be outdoors with my friends. Until one day, after I had already decided to join the local militia, I fell hard during a climbing contest and injured myself very badly. I was bedridden for a year. During that time my mother attended me every day, teaching me her arts. I learned well, but missed the spring and summer militia training sessions. My health returned and I again began to train with the local militia, yet, year after year, something always came up to prevent me from attending. I either came down with some horrible disease or injured myself. I always got better, and mother was always there teaching me the arts. Eventually I caught on that something was up. I could never figure out how she was doing it, but mother was making me avoid helping with the civil defense. Sure, she was happy to teach me physical based spells. However, she never said words of encouragement for my martial interests. Well, I'm an adult now, and it's time for me to make my mark in the world. I've decided to get away from mother, and see the world for myself. Additional notes: Roy grew up in a simple fishing village between Faris Hills and Darish as an only child with cousins, aunts and uncles. Most of his able-bodied family were involved in the civil war on side with Darish. He grew up listening to stories of battle and heroic deeds. He played games pretending he was a knight in battle. Roy wanted to be a fighter, like his grandfather. He admired the old man, a paladin of Delaquain. However, his mother committed herself to prevent him joining the army and die in battle as his father. Conveniently, Roy always injured himself when he was preparing to help with the civil defense of their village, and so his mother was able to train him in wizardry. She was a universalist, and able to supply him enough skill to specialize in any school. She knew Roy couldn't resist the physical realm, so she was happy to encourage and channel his thirst into mystical transmutations. Roy became an adult, skilled in the mystic arts, though to look at him left one to puzzle a paradox. Still, Roy insisted he leave his family home and make his way in the world. Filled with wanderlust and a young man's desire to explore. Roy has set out to discover himself. goals: Roy is out to prove himself. He wanted to be a heroic militia man, to protect his friends and family during these troubled times, maybe to go on a quest and become a paladin like his grandfather-- having never known his father who apparently died in the war. However, his mother saw to it that he was trained in the mystic arts. His health and agility is even lowered because of her efforts. He is keenly aware that he doesn't have the combat knowledge he always wanted. So, he's looking for a battle to win and a cause to take up.
