Description
Orphaned at age 8 by a plague, Acathis was grabbed from the streets by an Elan Enclave working which was entrusted by the rulers of her city to "do something about the poor". Dozens of other children were scooped up at this time as part of a monsterous plot by the Elans to determine the parameters under which the Elan creation process would work. The children were treated simply as laboratory rats, and many of her fellow prisoners died as they went through the process too early, or under faulty and/or unusual conditions. Her personal process, designed to determine the youngest age at which one could become an Elan, was successful, leaving her trapped with the appearance and physical maturity of an 18-year old. While she has not been an Elan long enough to determine if this apparent age is permanent, thus far, it seems to be so. Either as a result of this exceptionally early processing or merely as a coincidence, her psionic abilities were beyond those of the normal Elan, and the council attempted to integrate her into their society as a normal member, expecting that the increased privileges, as well as the freedom to develop her mental powers would cause her to forgive and forget the appalling conditions of her childhood. This, however, was not to be the case. Within a few years of her "ascension", as it was considered, she had discovered a love for human magic--a power source regarded by the Enclave as Psionism's poor cousin. Faced with endless pressure to conform and having exhausted the supply of knowledge available about her new obsession in this location, she reached the decision to move on.
Personality
Continuously concerned about pursuit by the elan (who may or may not actually care about the fact that she left, and may or may not be pursuing her if they do), Acathis is deeply mistrustful of others and actively seeks to drive away anyone who threatens to get too close to her emotionally. She feels that companionship is neither necessary nor desirable, and that contact with others is best avoided when possible and kept strictly functional and professional when absolutely required.
