Background & Other Notes
Did you see that guy on the bench. Yes, I'm being followed. By whom? Well, maybe we should go to a bathroom, we could discuss that more openly. [he switched laptop first with a few looped speeches, and then opened tap] Yes, I've seen a shrink. I have even prescribed medication. Happy about it? Well, if you look at it from right perspective that's even useful. As side effect of failed spells a few times I had so nasty side effects that such drugs came handy. You don't believe that I'm a wizard and you consider that as delusion? To be honest you sound very reasonable. Sure, I should have used a metal spoon. Bending with mind a plastic one is harder and it leads to breaking it. So I think that now I proved my point about magic and proved a point that there effectively is no spoon... now and the broken plastic should go to garbage bin. I've got MA in economics from Wroclaw University of Economics. It was hard because I disappeared for half a year. Half a year of our time, from time measured next to me it was between three and half and four years. I was abducted by summoner who worked for a head hunter agency. They needed to fill vacancies for priestess in Elkaril temple. They taught me a few spells, including how to turn in to a girl, sent me there and collected their commission. Theoretically I was supposed to worship a dragon-like god, in practice all I had to do was to recharge priestess that were casting more powerful spells, mostly magic item creation and healing spells. Oh yes... and turn quickly in to a girl and dress in proper robe in case of any control from HQ. Not bad job, except lack of computers. I learnt their language and had access to their library, I even helped them to keep books and made them more familiar with double entry bookkeeping system. As a present I was given this magic bracelet. It's made of a skin of a big reptilian with no good translation to English. It's a powerstone, a bit quirky. After each use I have to cast a healing spell on it to let it recharge. It can't be used in full Sun. It can not be used for elemental spells which is not a problem for me. It smells as if it was somewhat burnt and when used for spellcasting becomes a bit hot. A few times it failed without any apparent reason. Yes, I was given it because no one else in the temple wanted it. I also have a few more magic items. I got priestess to imbue my watch as powerstone. Works, but as terribly minor (1FP), it is more useful as a talisman against nightmares that I got from overuse of magic. I also have my green scarf. For it to work is has to be tied around head and it gives minor protection. (fortify +2; 12,5%: head+neck) How I get back? That's Ezi fault. When someone is raising star within a temple with powerful spells she should be much more careful. At late evening, when we finished job and were just finishing making order there was some malignant force surrounding us in the lower temple. I opted to leave it so, just evacuate all people and assemble proper team in the morning. She said that there is no time and she would solve the problem on her own. After a few low power rays she demanded from me to grant her my energy. She tried an overkill - banishment spell all over the whole part of the temple. Keep it mind that I was somehow classified as outsider and affected. I hope that now she remembers better who is on the payroll. I keep contact with Azeher. To leave a message for him I need to draw proper pentagram and bribe spirits with a few liters of strawberry yogurt. Yes, I know spirits should settle for something more stylish like virgins blood, unicorn hair or rare herbs. I don't know why strawberry yogurt works but it works. Later I can send a message to Azeher and receive his - we're pen friends. He works as wizard adviser at court of Misendo III the Brave. In other words he is an intellectual who has to work under short tempered barbarian. I usually help him with budgeting, He gives me data to fill to spreadsheet and I calculate the budget of their duchy including cash flows and sensitivity analysis. It seems that my long term budget forecast made him to encourage his prince to speed up plundering. In exchange he was sending me copies of spell books. So you are still curious about the guy who follows me? He is an elf wizard, quite powerful. Let's say he... likes me. No, that is too mildly... he felt in love with my female version. Could you stop giggling? Thank you. He insist that I should marry him and does not take not for an answer. Yes, he knows well who am I and it does not stop him. We have some kind of bond that let's us to feel other experiences which convinces him that we're destined to live with each other. He is persistent and with his centuries long life wasting a few decades looks acceptable. He considers electronics and generally modern tech as root of all evil and tends to destroy mine claiming that's for my good. He also once swapped medication in my first aid kit for herbs. That was just before a control at airport. He is also jealous when I try to have a girlfriend and tries to sabotage that. What's the most annoying I learnt a spell to detect enemies and he seems to be invisible to it because lack of strictly hostile intent. Political views: I think that also his political views requires some explanation. I called them as un-American. He is quite competent at economics. He sees quite many gov errors during the crisis and before crisis and blames democracy on that. (keep in mind that in southern Europe that is less bank crisis (except Spain) and more gov debt crisis caused mostly by living beyond means before) System in which to get elected one have to overpromise and later either he has to do something irresponsible or be voted out office by disappointed voters. System in which quite complicated decision are made by voters who mostly don't understand them. He would settle for democracy with education census, using focus groups or in last resort on dictatorship with bright leader. He came from post-communist country so still democracy is not seen as dogma but more as reasonable idea which can be discussed. That's not a view "US elected officials are corrupt/incompetent/bought". (and it is not only about US, he saw similar behaviours supporting his point also in Europe) By occasion the character would not disagree seriously with that view concerning US politics, just that's not his point. His point is that the true problem are not any contemporary politicians, but democracy as such is the problem. Premise 1:The incompetence of politicians does not come from nowhere but is simply outcome of incompetence/immorality of their voters only slightly affected by negative selection. Similarly favours for some pressure groups is outcome of effective rent seeking by those groups, where doesn't matter whether the group first gives huge political contribution in cash and receives gov money in exchange, or whether merely disciplined votes of that group are rewarded with gov money. Premise 2: Trying to educate general public a bit more would be nice, but it wouldn't have high success rate anyway (or if it was technically possible to compulsory enrol people for a few more years of education which would include economics but that would benefit society as whole and not taught individuals whose time would be sacrificed)
