Ricgar Bearfang hails from the Plains of Korgath, from the tribe of the Red Bear, one of the larger tribes within the plains region. Ricgar was born to the war chief of the tribe, one Dregnok Bearfang, who was always known as a great and powerful warrior. Dregnok came from a long line of great, powerful (and often times feared) warchiefs who would more often than not attack on sight most who would dare to enter their land (save perhaps an orcish merchant or two). The Bearfang family, from long ages past was always held in high regard among the barbarian nations, and even among some of the 'civilized' people as well, who often viewed the family as heathens who wished nothing more than the destruction of all they held dear (which was not necessarily far from the truth). The Red Bear tribe, like many barbarian tribes, always were very superstitious, praying to the gods for help in their endeavors and always speaking to their local medicine man (druid) for guidance in the trials and tribulations to come. The druid of the warcamp in which Ricgar was born was a middle aged druid named Dregnous, who had never steered Dregnok wrong before. It was even he who pointed out Ildania, Ricgar's mother, proclaiming that it was she that the man would marry and would bear many many sons from. So, in classic tradition, Dregnok went to Dregnous before the imminent birth of his first born son, to find out his prodigy's future, ever hoping that his son would surpass him and make all of the continent bow to him and the Red Bear tribe. Unfortunately, this was not to be the message that Dregnous gave to the soon to be father. quot;Well, what will my son be? quot; demanded Dregnok, slamming his fist against the table for Dregnous' response quot;Your son.... quot; the druid paused while looking at his tea leaves quot; Will be a great warrior. He will face many fierce foes and triumph. He will be like unto the elements, an unstoppable force of rage and strength quot; thus far Dregnok was quite pleased with what the druid had told him. However, the prediction went on quot;Your son will also cause your death, and be the doom of the Red Bear tribe. He will associate with 'civilized' peoples and call them friend. He will be a prince to a kingdom not yet forged. He- quot; the druid was unable to finish the prediction as Dregnok stormed out of the tent in a blind fury. His own son be the death of him, and not only him, but the entire Red Bear tribe? He would not allow it. His own son must be killed to prevent this foul atrocity. At this time Ricgar has just been born and was cuddled next to his mother, fast asleep. The delivery was a complete success, and, apart from being very draining, Ildania was in perfect health, as was the baby. However, Ricgar seemed a bit strange, even from birth, namely he had two odd birthmarks on his arms. Upon the right arm was the silhouette of a battle-axe, and on his left arm an image of a flame. Dregnok came into the tent and told Ildania that quot; The child must go! quot; Ildania was less the happy about this out and out declaring no "If the child is not kill. All of us will be doomed to the fate it will bring " he said, not even referring to his own son as a true creature. Dregnok intimidated the new mother until she finally consented, on the condition that she would do the deed, so that it would not be painful for the child. Weepy and teary eyed, she went to the farthest reaches of the Red Bear territory, near the orcish forests. She had her axe with her and she laid the baby on the ground. She raised the axe to put down the killing blow, but she could not do it...However, Dregnok would want proof, proof in blood.. So Ildonia cut herself on her arm and and bound her wound, so not to arose suspicion. She then laid the babe down and kissed him upon his brow "Goodbye Ricgar....good luck " she said, crying, both from the physical and emotional pain. She then turned and left the baby at the edge of the woods, still crying..... Part 2 Several years later, we see Ricgar grown to full proportions and rather strong as well, both in strength and in mind. How is it that an infant boy came to survive in the harsh wilderness? Well, Ricgar had help. The cries of the babe were rather loud and carried over some distance, and attracted both the attention of the nearby animals, and that of the orcs. The orcs, specifically an older couple by the name of Grengok and Donda, found Ricgar and raised him as their, own, keeping the name given to him. Ricgar then grew up among the orcs, finding himself to be no equal in strength to them, but to be smarter instead. This, however, was not good enough for Ricgar, as he wished to be the strongest. The young man trained to be the best fighter among his new tribe, striving to be better, in spite of the fact that he was different. The orcs trained him with the weapons they had, and the training they had. But it was never enough for the youth, who ate up their knowledge very easily. Grengok and Donda told Ricgar of where he was from, which perhaps wasn't the best idea, as it made the (at the time teenager) Ricgar, wonder if he was not good enough for his own people to be dropped like garbage? Ricgar was always picked on for being human, and has subsequent beatings and pranks pulled on him because of it. He was able to match the orcs in single combat, but when outnumbered there was little he could do. On his fifteenth birthday, the you man had finally had enough after being pinned to the ground by a group of young orcs who has proceeded to beat him, he lost it, going into a rage and slaughtering two of the boys, leaving the other two severely hurt. After this he was banished, labeled a katalmacht He would always be an outsider among his own home. And so, on a rather teary eyed night (though Ricgar would never admit to have crying) he left his newfound family, bound for points unknown. While he has bummed around doing odd mercenary jobs, for various employers, he's heard of a place called Wayland's Outpost. It's an old war fort, that's now run by the old army quartermaster. It's definitely a favorite of the mercenaries, because there's always someone passing through that needs protecting or helping. It's deep in the forest, and Wayland's always been a friend to men-at-arms. If Ricgar asks around about it, one of the mercenaries from his last job can draw him a crude map. It's to the north and west of where he is, along the southern edge of King Bryndyn's Kingdom. It's late summer, though, so the normally cold forest should be fairly accommodating, and jobs are always plentiful at Wayland's rest. They tell you that Wayland's Outpost has been attacked, not once, but several times. By bugbears, of all things. They appear quite surprised by this, Wayland is well-liked, and such a thing has not occurred since the War. Bugbears in the area have long been allies and trading partners of Wayland's. In all your travels, you've never heard of bugbear hostility towards humans, especially in King Bryndyn's lands. From what you've heard of him, the Mountain King is given to strong drink, and showing off with feats of strength. The bugbears who frequently visit his court find him to be a kindred spirit, and count him as a friend as well as a neighbor. Rage: Ricgar has quite a temper on him, mostly out of necessity from his youth and 'sword arm for hire' days. However, he tries to keep his cool most times and not let his anger get the better of him, as he knows he will become more reckless than he should and lose control, possibly harming those he cares about. it is for that reason that Ricgar was ultimately banished from the orcs, his rage had gotten the better of him while he was being picked on, and he ended up killing a child in the frenzy. The orcs decided that his punishment would be banishment, as Ricgar had held back the resentment for so long and was bound to have it anyhow, as children are always cruel. However the father of the dead child, Frenlok, was not pleased at this and tried to have Ricgar killed instead, and still harbors a grudge towards the human boy Ricgar rarely goes into a rage, but things that may trigger it are being outnumbered and other things that remind him of his troubled childhood. Ricgar can also will himself to go into this sort of rage, but he tries not to, as while he fears what he'll do in a rage, he also knows that he likes it when he lets loose, and it scares him Brother: Cormack...forgot to add in,
