Personality
Depending on who you ask in the galaxy, Bothans are defined as anything from secretive and treacherous opportunists, to friendly but cautious sources of support for any trusted soul in a pinch. The degree to which the species and it's central Council has taken it's self-preserving galactic policies and principles to is a point of contention; many other species display a clear distaste for the shrewd politicking and self-serving philosophies of Bothan culture, yet cannot help but also envy it's efficacy and competency in meeting most of it's desired goals, maintaining all the while an affable image, despite it's often-clear moral shortcomings. In many ways, Koth Arr'ok represents the philosophy of such a system in both mind and being: Diplomatic, attentive and friendly in the face of almost all encounters and meetings, whether if it's a high-grade rendezvous with nobility in the prosperous part of a developed planet, or a short info trade with a Hutt's 'representatives' in the backroom of a seedy cantina... And maintaining a calculating, unattached and amoral presence in the core, always taking in every presented point of data, and rarely ever accepting them at face value; The truth is rare and fickle, hiding in pockets of small havens, amidst a sea of free and rampant disinformation. A display of calm, control and proficiency -even if it might be a facade- goes a long way in keeping matters orderly, their noses on target. Though he is far from being a seasoned veteran of espionage, Koth's affinity towards remaining sedate under pressure is perhaps his greatest strength, as well as the most important factor in his continued survival so far; Solid composure is the foundation from which the Bothan has refined most of his core talents. Cautious and shrewd as he may be, Koth is still a far cry from being a proverbial solitary hunter. The engaging acquisition and trade of information may rely upon metric tonnes of both negotiation and deception, yet still the Bothan does have a face and social taste of his own to indulge and satisfy. To that extent, friends and companions are hardly taboo for Koth; only chosen with diligent care, and maintained with some degree of healthy caution. To trust and bond with the minds of others as freely and carelessly as most folk seem to do in this galaxy, would only have the Bothan do a disservice to himself, and by extension, his people. Ultimately, being a soft-spoken and cordial person, Koth is hardly the worst choice to pick as a friend, and his loyalty could certainly be worth the effort for those who earn it.
Description:
Standing at a height of just over 1.6 meters and weighing at a moderate 68 kilograms, Koth is of a fairly healthy build for an average Bothan, stout and frail he might otherwise stand compared to most other galactic species. Possessing a svelte and dextrous physique to his command, the Bothan stands with a straight and confident posture to his spine, the small yet smooth motions to his hands and arms projecting an air of expertise and ingenuity to any onlookers. Like most members of his species, Koth's body is coated with a dense, flowing layer of dark brown fur, thinning out to a more fuzzy pattern around his neck and face. Thin, long strands of braided fur can be spotted, dangling limply down the sides of his jawline and chin, as well as his temples, where long and thin ears stick out at a narrow angle towards the back; a pair of sharp blades, within a forest of deep, flowing brown. His expression is one of a quiet mediator; with piercing eyes of amber gazing out from between a sharp brow and prominent cheek bones...listening, weighing and silently judging without so much as a hint of approval, irritation, nor disgust. The Bothan's voice is only slightly deeper than what one would expect from a person of his size and build, and quite smooth to the ears; clean of any rasps, hisses or whispers that are common to the speeches of the numerous galactic travelers that juggle a variety of languages and accents for their use. His tone is remarkably level, passing on thoughts, remarks and requests with reduced need for both yelling nor yielding. In clothing, Koth's approach has always been toward striking a three-way compromise between the three core tenets of fashionable taste, lightweight comfort and reasonable utility; An approach easily satisfied thanks to a clean pair of brown, loose-fitted denim pants, a travelers long coat of dark, quality-treated leather with a brighter plain shirt underneath, and finally a durable pair of synthetic leather boots. All in all, perfect for blending in with the locale of just about any large, cosmopolitan city or settlement.

The aptly-named Clone Wars lasted only about 3 years, yet their sheer destructive impact ripped through the galaxy, tearing apart entire societies, systems and governments with every wave of fury-laden chaos. For the countless men and women who served on both sides of the conflict, whether if it was clashing in the frontlines with blades, blasters and blood, swarming about in the rear to coordinate tactical support and supplies, or observing and planning within the packed war rooms of numerous tents and fortresses, the war was a furious compound of high moments of victory and accomplishment and low times of agony and defeat. For the much more numerous civilians caught in the crossfire, it was rarely the former, compared to the latter. For the people and council of Bothawui, the galactic conflict was fortunately a little more palatable, due to their neutral stance to the bloody struggle between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The only Bothans to truly participate in the entire quagmire, were the ones who never were truly clean and free of conflict in their careers: The countless agents of the infamous Bothan Spynet. With the Bothawui Council keeping a respectful distance from both sides of the war, Bothan politicians and operatives of many ranks played their part in the detection, acquisition, smuggling and relaying of information and supplies to interested parties within the Republic and the Confederacy. Quietly and unofficially playing both fields not only ensured good relations with the eventual victor, after all, but it also ensured a speedier conclusion to the whole mess that threatened to collapse galactic trade and prosperity. As with all conducts of deep espionage, the risks were usually high, and the rewards did not always match expectations or desires. Casualties in life and resource were inevitable at times, their costs barely covered with the sometimes-cheap assurances that they would not be in vain. Nevertheless, the Bothans strove on with what they performed best, persevering through thick and thin to ensure their people and planet would remain above the thoroughly-scorched clusters of systems and communities, left in the wake of a horrifying war. They were heroes of a different caliber, unsung and anonymous in their deaths, but not forgotten. For better or for worse, Koth Arr'ok had missed the opportunity for such heroism by merely a year of age and experience. Still a rookie initiate within the intelligence ranks of the Spynet when the Clone Wars had broken out, the young Bothan got too far and few chances for field work throughout the conflict; largely confined to performing footwork in the safer territories of the core worlds, his tasks mostly centered around a small op-front in Coruscant. For a Koth whose energy and impatience was yet untempered by age and experience, this was naturally as dull and agonizing as it could get: No zipping across the galaxy into the distant hot zones for reconnaissance and infiltration. No stealthy smuggling runs across conflicted systems to deliver critical supplies and dataplans to one side or the other.... Only eavesdropping on bored or drunk aides of Republic senators in cantinas and social events peppered around Coruscant, and running low-priority courier missions between safe, orderly, neighboring systems. It's almost certain that the Bothan would've thought quite differently about his 'predicament', had he actually experienced the burning fields and torched cities of the war-torn planets, or had to survive skimming through naval battles and skirmishes, with ships built for speed and stealth over durability and firepower. Death and destruction had a way of testing one's mettle to it's limits, not caring what damage it left behind in psyche and physique. If anything, Koth was lucky to have been ordered to evacuate when the Battle of Coruscant struck; still not deemed ready and able for high-risk duty at the time, the young rookie was among the support staff of his op-front to board an escape shuttle, whilst his higher ranking peers ran right into the fray to relay updates to their handlers. All in all, the Clone Wars were not for Koth; His time and opportunity to make a difference would come in it's aftermath. Following the conclusion of the galactic war, with the dissolution of the Confederacy and the fast decline of the Republic into an Empire, Koth discovered that his choices for moving up the ladder were shifting; splitting into a wider array of paths and careers. The new galactic order was an unsettling one, as far as Bothawui was concerned; The newly rising Emperor and his policies were slowly stifling liberties of trade, travel and talk within the core worlds and beyond; liberties that had existed for centuries without pause, and taken for granted in their lasting stand. As such, the 'underground' alternates of such privileges were on the rise; black markets, smuggling organizations, and even hints of insurgency, picking up a gradual momentum. The Spynet was quick to adapt to this new environment, granting it's agents more freedom of range and autonomy so as to spread their numbers across the new galactic landscape. Koth could hold a quiet and safe post in Bothawui as an intelligence analyst, or he could take to the void out there and attempt to strike out on his own; establish connections, put out feelers, and begin feeding the Spynet actively... This was hardly a tough decision to make. Within weeks of leaving the comforts of his home planet, the Bothan was hard at work; making contacts, running favors, brokering small-scale illicit trades, and through all this, establishing himself a credible name to work with, under the shadows of the expanding Imperial influence. The tasks were demanding and often-intense, but their rewards were all the more gratifying, valuable and expedient. In the underground market after all, lines of credit and owing favors could only go so far; cold, hard cash and rapid data deliveries were the path to profit and success. Indeed, Koth was looking to make a good living through his accumulated skills, especially as his mind and body began to acclimatize to the more cruel aspects of the criminal underworld. Wetwork, sabotage, and a distinct lack of ethical framework in business deals were all too common after all, if not outright universal. Perhaps the most important development in recent times however, was what many political and social analysts had been suspecting for a good while since the establishment of Imperial control: A loose, slowly growing alliance of communities, organizations and influential individuals, all brought together by their common enmity for the new Imperial order above their heads. From where Koth was standing, whether this growing movement would lead anywhere and grow any real teeth, or be ruthlessly and conclusively crushed to oblivion once it popped into the Empire's radar, was up in the air. But as the Bothan had learned in his limited experience thus far, societies that had enjoyed blissful liberty for so long before their incarceration, would not be so easy to forget their pleasant past...and with time, they could indeed grow more bitter, decisive and dangerous to the autocrats who chain them. Unlike his home planet during the Clone Wars, Koth was not nearly equipped to support both the Empire and this loose insurgent movement simultaneously; Sooner or later, he'd have to take a gamble and pick a side. Thus far, cold logic had commanded the Bothan to stay away from the would-be rebels and stay on the Empire's graceful side, whilst gutsy instincts found great promise and potential in this growing movement. In the coming weeks and months, Koth Arr'ok would find himself at a fork in his road, and his one choice there would solidify his final destiny.
