Description
Librarian still wears a scholar's outfit, though the old one was too small for him, so he's bought a new one that looks exactly like the old: a brown robe with pockets and a simple belt. He has kind features, designed to be welcoming rather than intimidating and has small hands compared to the generic warforged. He has kept his mark, the seal of Korranberg, in the event that he is again granted entry to the books. Other than that, he carries a backpack and wears a dark brown cloak with golden seams.
Personality
Librarian never participated in the war and was therefore never commanded into battle as cannon fodder, but he read articles about the subject and found it horrifying. The gnomes treated him quite well, aside from the teasing and ordering him to do tedious work, so Librarians take on the situation for the less privileged warforged is philosophical rather than a result of bad treatment. He is kind and calm and will always aid his fellow companions. But his strongest characteristic is still his thirst for knowledge, be it first hand experiences or books, and he is very inquisitive and curious of everything. He is used to waiting and having a lot of time on his hands, so he is very patient. When travelling with "fleshlings" (a common slang among forgeborn for the humanoid races), he uses the time when the others sleep to read and to update his journal.
Character Traits
Bibliophile You are unable to resist reading. Prerequisite: Literate Benefit: A character with the Bibliophile trait can read at quadruple the normal rate. They can determine the gist (Treat all languages as mundane, even magical script, and gain +4 to Decipher Script checks) of all writings, even if they cannot read the language. Drawback: Any time the character sees a book, scroll, or any piece of printed material, they must make a will save (DC 18). If they fail, they will dedicate themselves to reading the material. If the writing is in another language, they will still attempt to read it. A character with the Bibliophile trait cannot go for more than two days without reading. If they do, they take a cumulative -1 per two days on all mental tasks.

During the War, the gnomes of Zilargo put a great deal of resources into protecting their great Library in Korranberg. They had protective spells to keep scrying eyes and prying noses out and 50 guards to protect it at all times. But the gnomes knew their opponents had great magic and could find ways to gain entrance. Therefore they decided they needed someone to guard the library at all times who would be unsusceptible to bribes, never need time off because of illness or other duties and required little upkeep. And so the gnomes bought a brand new warforged from House Cannith. Although the War had a serious impact on the little people, they hadn't lost their humor completely, and named their new acquired guard Librarian. Librarian was treated with little respect and constantly ordered around. In the beginning he was just standing in one place, checking who entered and claiming the password from them in order to give access to the books. After a while, the real librarians working there found a better use for the sentinel. They would have him return and retrieve books from the extensive collection, a job the gnomes found a drag. But in order to do this, they had to teach him the alphabet and how to read titles. To their astonishment, they found him an able learner and he quickly acquired the ability to read and perform his new duties. Librarian was surprised to find that he enjoyed this reading immensely. Not only that, but the feeling of doing something he wanted to do was completely new to him. He had always performed his duties and followed orders without questioning. Now he made a conscious decision to use more of his time on the things he enjoyed the most. During the day he suffered the jokes and remarks at his cost, because he knew when everyone left for the day and he was supposed to continue guarding and returning books to their rightful shelf, he read instead. He read everything he could, current affairs through the "Sharn Inquisitive", history, geography, politics, and MAGIC. He spent every night for 3 years over the various books, never needing a break or something to eat or drink. One of the most intriguing books he found described in detail the art and mechanics of arcane magic. He spent half a year on this book alone, reading it over and over, trying out some of the formulae he found, and to his joy, mastered the cantrips. He found other books on the subject and began to grasp the knowledge required not only to perform, but to understand magic. One night he came across a book, he intuitively knew held within great magic. It was very small, suggesting it had belonged to one of the little people, but the contents held great power. Librarian had never owned a single possession his whole life and had never craved one, but after this find, he could not put it back, he had to keep it. And when the night came to an end, he placed the book in a compartment in his abdominal. He studied it carefully, knowing it held powers beyond his understanding and abilities. Another discovery that would have a great impact on Librarian, was a book about the lands of Xen'Drik and the ancient knowledge that could be found there. It also implicitly suggested that a creation forge was located in the jungles. Then one day he was asked to leave. He was told the war had ended and all warforged were legally free men. Librarian was ambivalent. He did not want to leave the fantastic collection of knowledge. On the other hand, he was anxious to experience things first hand, and not only through books. The gnomes made the choice easy for him: He had to leave. And so, for the first time in 4 years after he first came to Zilargo, he was outside the Library. The gnomes gave him a pouch with 10 gold and shut the door to infinite knowledge forever. They did not bother to check his abdominal compartment, and therefore he left with the greatest treasure of all. His first thought was to see the world and experience it for himself, rather than reading about it in books, and he could think of no better place to start than Sharn. And after many weeks marching, he reached the metropolis. He found a group of adventurers venturing into Xen'Drik to find great treasures and lost artifacts. Librarian was glad to have found some company and joined. He had heard that ancient secrets and knowledge could be found in the deep jungles and inhospitable wastelands that could be found in no book. The rest of the party were in it for the valuable relics that could be sold at high prizes in Stormreach. The party spent over a year venturing back and forth between Stormreach, where they sold the treasure they found and got new equipment and provisions, and the dangers of the hostile lands, nothing ever being as it appeared. Librarian found himself to be a great asset to the party and earned their respect and appreciation. Librarian is truly interested in Xen'Drik, borderline obsessed. He sees the ancient lands as a goldmine of knowledge and history, so after his liberation there was no other alternative than going there. In between his own expeditions, he has spent most of the days hanging out in Stormreach talking with people about Xen'Drik and their experiences there. Every time he heard someone was returning from an expedition, he would immediately meet them to learn if they had any interesting news or discoveries. Of all the books in Korranberg, none had taught him social etiquete or that it is uncommon and inappropriate for grown men to display such childish joy when asking questions. This has made him somewhat of an original, and many probably know about him as a result of this. The citizens often made jokes on his expense, though mostly affectionately, as he had no enemies. Librarian has not adopted a well-developed sense a humor from the gnomes and seldom understood the jokes, or the fact that they were on him. One of the first men he met when he arrived in the city was a tavernkeeper called Alebeard, and he laughed heartly when Librarian told him his name. And he laughed even harder when he realized the warforged wasn't joking. To ensure he would not miss any returning adventurers, he had built a small house in the outskirts of the city. It was just one room with a bookshelf, a table and a chair. Librarian had no other needs and he spent every night in the city looking out the window to the south, as he wrote in his journal. As time passed, he did not need to seek out the groups returning from their expeditions, they came to him. He was the most thankful crowd they could ask for, and many wanted to talk about their experiences and accomplishments. The gathering of information from those who had explored the wild lands in addition to his vast knowledge from the world of books, made him somewhat of an authority on the subject of Xen'Drik. People would seek him out to make inquieries about safe paths, the location of ancient ruins or strange items they had found. Librarian gladly shared his knowledge, asking only in return that they would tell him of their experiences in the lands, no matter how trivial or small they seemed. But most of his time he spent exploring himself. For a year he travelled with the same group on several expeditions, but after a while the others grew tired of him always lagging behind to examine a strange plant, studying a moss covered stone wall or taking notes in his journal. So they politely told him that their mission was recovering treasure, not academic studies and ended their partnership. (On a side note, the group was last seen near Fog lake, and have yet to return.) Since then Librarian has acted as a guide for different expeditions, claiming no treasure of his own, except when they have found rare artifacts that roused his interest. It was during this last period time he came into contact with Elhyd d'Kundarak who in Librarian saw a friend with common interests and completely free of ulterior motives or political agendas. The dwarf could confide in the warforged, knowing that if he asked of his secrecy it would be kept.
