When children grow up, they cease to see those fancies of childhood that bring fairy tales to life. The monster in the closet goes away and the imaginary friends disappear for good. Ian was an exception to that rule. He was unusually smart and even at a young age he could tell when his mother was merely indulging him when he told her about the creature walking down the street. She just attributed it to an overactive imagination. When he got older, she became upset when he mentioned some fanciful thing of shadow. He learned to keep his observations to himself by the time he was twelve. He finished school early and started college as soon as he could, imersing himself in classwork. He made a few friends and one in particular was a member of the campus theatre group. When they needed help with a production of Fiddler on the Roof, Ian found out that he could sing a little. The music director on the play offered him lessons and he developed a talent for song. Meanwhile, he tried to avoid the shadow and made no notice of it when it became apparent. But it wouldn't stay hidden. He began to ask questions about the shadowkind. At first they were vague and general but slowly he became more interested. Halfway through his final year at university, he was contacted by a fellow who answered a few of his questions. Someone possibly alerted by the questions he was asking. The price for more answers was an interview after graduation. Now, here he was.........
