Description
Personality
On the outside, Lexine seems to be perfect. She has a perfect body, she has a perfect smile, she finds the right words, she does what is asked of her and excels above and beyond that, she genuinely cares for others and leads by example, always being the first one to take a shot. That is the Commander. There is also someone else in her. The young girl that lost her mother because she was ill. Sometimes Lexi still feels responsible for that - although she has never spoken about it with anyone. She has lost her father because she wasn't able to follow orders. What if the situation arises in which following orders is not an option anymore? Or even worse - what if following orders means loosing a life? Lexine's ability to lead comes from her deep conviction that what she does is right - that it is the only right thing to do. But what if that belief crumbles? Lexine hides behind being a soldier. Her body looks the way it does because it cannot actually sustain itself if it weren't for the treatment of her father. Her words are fueled by a perspective that is more black and white than anything else. All her achievements are based on the foundation of failure. Failure to protect the one person that she dearly loved. Yes, there is Commander Lexine Arrington. But who exactly is Lexi? She is not looking for answers. But then again, sometimes they find you when you aren't searching.

Commander Lexine Arrington is a living legend. She is the only bearer of three Medals of Honor - the highest military decoration awarded in the United States. When Lexine was awarded her third medal it went global. After all, receiving two medals was rare (being still alive to wear them even rarer). There was television, there were the newspapers and journals, radio interviews and what not. The best about it? Lexine took to the cameras like a natural. With a little media training she was able to deliver printable verbatims almost all the time. It was a dream come true for the United States Armed Forces. The girl from the "American heartlands of Iowa" had turned into the face of the Army. At the same time she was still a paragon soldier; mindful of her duty at all times. An inspiration to her fellow comrades in arms, a joy for every commanding officer. A heartwarming story, a flawless heroine... right? Don't believe the media. When Lexine was born, she was terminally ill. The baby suffered from a rare motor neuron disease that would slowly debilitate her body until it would cease functioning within less than two years. Lexine's mother, a theatrical actor, couldn't stand the prospect and took her life. Her father, Simon Peter Arrington - an accomplished neurobiologist, however, saw a spark in his daughter's eyes that spoke of fierce determination and he refused to let her die. Breaking company rules as well as state and federal law at every turn, he started "altering" his daughter, using experimental gene therapy. It was extremely difficult. Her body was so small and incredibly fragile. Every surgery could be her last. And while he indeed did not succeed in ridding the girl's body from the disease he succeeded in something else. He implemented some kind of healing factor - allowing his daughter to "repair" herself quicker than the illness was crippling her. It was a still a tough fight back to life for his daughter but Simon proved to be right. She was determined to live. His attempts had not gone unnoticed however and he soon received an offer that he could not decline (as declining would've meant his decline as well - in a very finite way). He was hired by the US military to perfect the technology for their super soldier program. And yet, while he was trying, Simon wasn't able to replicate what he had done for his beloved Lexi. Soon, he found out why. The gene modification he had discovered was only possible if the specific disease was present - a disease they didn't fully understand and hence could not create; for now. Although they were confined to the high security compound they now called home, it was happy life. The soldiers loved the little blonde girl playing in their midst and Lexine loved the sense of companionship the soldiers had. They were her extended family and one she valued greatly. Apart from her healing factor, Lexine was not the epitome of a warrior but her natural charm, her way with words and her general openness made her a favorite with almost anybody on the base. In the evenings, her father would read to her from her mother's play, which Lexine then would retell to the soldiers over and over again. It was the only way to remember a mother that she hadn't known. The older she got, the more the soldiers' interest changed. As a teenage girl, Lexi grew into a stunning beauty. Her father was not entirely sure if it was nature's result or part of the DNA modifications. She could entertain the soldiers with her voice alone though, if she wanted. Eventually, the girl took up a career as military attaché - carefully treading the path between military intervention and diplomatic exchange. Then came the great Chinese-American war and her father was kidnapped by the enemy in one of the most daring operations during the conflict. Lexine -couldn't just wait and do nothing. All her life her father had helped, supported and protected her. It felt wrong remaining behind while so many of her friends moved into combat. The determination her father had seen once again flared up. Lexi volunteered for the Army's Cyber Program. Her natural healing abilities made her the perfect candidate. When they were finished, she wasn't sure if she was still human or more of a machine but she was beyond caring. All that counted was saving her father. She went through military training in record time and was transferred to the "Argonaut", the mobile base of operations for the US forces in the East Chinese Sea. Upon accidentally listening in on a Chinese transmission providing the whereabouts of her father, Lexine went AWOL to start her private search and rescue mission. What she didn't know that there was already a team dispatched for that very purpose. Her superiors had not informed her, fearing that her personal involvement would jeopardize the mission. Tragically, this is exactly what happened. Lexine was detected and detained. Deemed too valuable to loose, the rescue party got the order to extract both; father and daughter but the now alerted Chinese forces were prepared. Simon Peter Arrington died in the ensuing fire fight. Lexi was tried and convicted for going AWOL but it hardly mattered to her. She understood well enough what she had caused. Her disobedience brought about the death of her father. A man without whom she would have no life - in more than one sense of the word. Punishment couldn't be severe enough, ever. She saw no sense in life anymore. But then came General Frank Clausewitz. The seasoned soldier saw great potential in the young woman and decided to help her. Smacking her in the face, he told Lexine that self-pity was not punishment. He made her choose between being dishonorably discharged or serving under his command and "being the first one in and the last one out". The young woman found truth in his words and accepted - vowing to never disobey an order again. Her life shattered but her spirit intact, Lexine took command of a small team of delta force operatives - all of them cybernetically enhanced - and volunteered for the most dangerous missions with utter disregard for her own but extreme caution for the life of her team. Soon, her command became famous. She was leading by example as well as by inspiring her team mates and supporting them wherever she could. Serving under her command usually meant coming out alive - regardless of the dangers involved. Lexine is known to lead by example and to take one for the team if necessary. Then came the Medals of Honor. The first turned her into a celebrity. The second made her a hero. The third transformed her into a legend. By now, people sign up for military service because of her, soldiers see it as an honor to fight with her side by side and her superiors know her to be loyal to a fault. She is the most promising commander that the military has to offer. Which is why they didn't have to think twice whom to send when the signal came. Commander Lexine Arrington will spearhead the first mission beyond the known solar system. While the President argued for a civilian leader, he could be convinced to have someone from the military lead the way. Lexine's diplomatic skill impressed him greatly and after he convinced himself that she was not the type to go in guns blazing, he relented. Her experience as an attaché, her proven track record of getting into and out of extremely dangerous situations, her combat training as well as her at least passing familiarity with neuroscience made her the perfect choice.
