Description
A tall but light man, Nero wears a dark blue robe that looks nearly black at times. Underneath he has white pants, a white vest, and white gloves. His dark brown boots end below his knees, covering his shins while still allowing flexibility with his legs. He carries a quarterstaff with a curved top in his right hand and usually has a book in his left. His lengthy hair was once blonde but is now silver from age. When reading, he wears circular glasses, but otherwise his soft brown eyes are unobstructed, giving him a distant but innocent appearance. They harden and lose those traits when entering battle.
Personality
Nero tends to be a quiet and thoughtful individual. He has a friendly personality, though he can seem a bit distant to others since his mind often seems to be elsewhere. Eccentric is a word that has been used to describe him before. A lot of it comes from having read many books and referring to them even if those around him are not as knowing. When he is in a serious situation or conflict, however, his entire personality changes. He goes from seeming like a quirky, older man to being a confident and skillful fighter in a heartbeat.
Character Traits
Mathematical Prodigy Mathematics has always come easily for you, and you have always been able to “see the math” in the physical and magical world. Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on Knowledge (arcana) and Knowledge (engineering) checks, and one of these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you. - Threatening Defender You know how to avoid a blow while still maintaining your offensive posture. Benefit: When you use Combat Expertise, reduce the number you subtract from your melee attack rolls by 1.

Born into a secluded elf village, Nero was raised from a young age to be a gifted wizard. This was not unusual for children there, and his parents did all they could to help his learning. He took to the lessons like a fish to water, embracing all of the knowledge that they contained. While he did decently with magic, his main gift was absorbing information that he found. His future as a historian, or keeper of the books, seemed set in stone. The arrival of a young elven woman when he was around 150 changed all of that. She was one of the rare elves that focused more on physical combat, rather than using magic. The village was hesitant to take her in at first, not trusting outsiders, but Nero argued for her to be helped. She had been in bad condition when he had come across her, and if she did not receive their help, she would die. His words won them over, and the rest of the community brought her in for healing. That was how Nero came to meet Lyra, and for the next year, he found himself changing under her influence. She was adventurous and outgoing, always questioning why he wanted knowledge when he had nothing to do with it. They grew close to each other, so much as to have a steady and intimate relationship. However, they kept running into the one blockade of their relationship. Lyra wanted to travel, while Nero had no interest of leaving the village. In the end, Lyra finally grew frustrated to the point that she left to continue adventuring. Both were sad to part ways, but it was bound to have ended badly if not for the division due to their different lifestyles. With some regrets to how it turned out, Nero continued his journey for knowledge while never looking for anyone else to love. It was only a few months ago that a messenger came to their village. The letter he presented Nero was from Lyra. He read in shock that she and he were parents; months after she had left, Lyra had given birth to their daughter, Emma. She had not told him since he had made it clear to her, when they were together, that he had no interest in having a child. Lyra had agreed to that, not wanting one to hamper her traveling. When she wound up having Emma, Lyra had decided to keep it to herself, not wanting to agitate Nero. But now she was contacting him because something had happened to their daughter. Lyra asked him in the final part of the letter to meet her in a distant town. "If you are willing to make the journey, then I'll know you care about us," Lyra wrote. "I understand if you don't have interest anymore, but... If you do this for us, to save Emma... I would be willing to live in the village, as a family now. It was foolish of me to not do so earlier. If I could redo my decision, I would... But at least, this way, I learned how much I value you." The words moved Nero deeply. He decided that for the sake of the woman he still held love for, and the child he had never met, he would venture out to find Lyra. He went to the town she had detailed, only to find that she was not there. When he asked around, there were citizens who said that yes, she had been there, but had abruptly vanished one morning. The innkeeper had been especially surprised since she had said she would be staying much longer, until someone she was waiting for came. Whatever fate had befallen Lyra and Emma was a mystery that Nero was determined to solve. Rather than running back to the safety of his home, he continued forth, traveling to find his family so that they could return together.
