Description
Personality
Dove likes the shadow and the darkness. He feels safer in them. Therefore he doesn't like exposition. He likes keeping things in the dark, buried deeply within himself. He keeps secrets without fail, but is rarely entrusted with them, since he keeps himself at such a distance from everyone around him. Dove dislikes to reveal himself to others and as such has learned to keep both emotion and truth hidden. In his search to make himself inscrutable he learned how to press the buttons of others and how to make others do what he wanted them to. He is harsh on himself when it comes to mistakes. He remembers when he makes a mistake and makes sure to never do it again which means that he becomes furious with himself if he does make that mistake again. He has an explosive temper, but he is in complete control of it. He only allows himself to lose that control in a controlled environment where it cannot harm him. He is especially careful to maintain control of his anger in combat. To this effect he tries to keep his distance in battle. He uses a spiked chain as his weapon of choice for this. He knows that if he loses himself in the battle he will die. An angry fighter is a loud fighter and he can't afford to be loud. The only two people that Dove ever actually love died, so he is terrified of loving others. He dislikes trusting in others, because trust leads to love. Therefore, he likes working alone. Dove really has very little for which to live, so he clings to the Brotherhood with all the strength he has. He is fanatically loyal to make sure that they won't just leave him stranded. He is afraid that if he screws up too badly, or too often that he will be kicked out of the Brotherhood, or murdered, so he compensates by doing anything and everything asked of him.

Dove grew up in the capital city of the Humanar Empire. He was a strange child. To call him, as the common phrase says, a "night owl" would be a gross understatement. When he was born, his mother and father, Julianne and Arthur Griffon, were constantly kept awake at night by his crying. They both had occupations during the day, so they never saw him sleeping nearly throughout the daylight hours, they only heard his screams at night. The nanny/tutor that they had hired to look after Dove during the day knew about his daytime lack of activities. But she didn't tell Julianne or Arthur out of fear of losing her job. After all, a worker who does no work is useless. Luckily it wasn't long before Dove's parents found out about his nanny and fired her, not for not working but for lying. They hired a new woman who was instructed to keep Dove awake for at least four hours every day. Dove's nighttime wakefulness decreased significantly almost immediately. Four years later he was still more at home in the darkness than in the light and developed the habit of always standing as far from the light as possible. He also learned how to sneak about at this age, because when he was awake in his room he would get hungry. His parents were light sleepers (which was largely his fault anyway), so he had to be careful not to wake them during his midnight kitchen raids. At the age of eight, Dove had finally chased off the last nanny. She was tenacious, it took Dove nearly two years to get rid of her. Because he had developed a talent for chasing away his nannies, Dove's parents decided that they would just send him to the schoolhouse in which the children of the nobility were taught. Dove didn't like the idea, but couldn't persuade his parents to back down. So he went to school. Nearly from the moment he walked in he was ridiculed mercilessly by the other children. He was mocked for his small size which he had not noticed until now, his low birth, his constant sleepiness, and especially his clothes. It was brutal and he came home crying for weeks. Then he figured it out. The kids in the school were mocking him because he was different. So he decided to fit in. He couldn't change his parenthood, but he could change his clothes. He couldn't help being sleepy, but he could act like he wasn't. He couldn't do anything about how short he was, but that was the least of the thing for which he was mocked, so he decided that it would sort itself out or he would deal with it. The clothes were easy. He just went a little farther than usual one night and stole some. The next morning he splashed water on his face before going to school and changed into his new outfit. As he went toward the door, though, his mother stopped him. He was surprised that she was home. She glanced quizzically at his clothes, but then shook her head and told him that she had some bad news for him. He felt his stomach twist, but he didn't know why until his mother told him that his father was sick. It was fear. He started getting dizzy, so he sat down on the floor abruptly. Dove's father died the next day. He was quickly followed by his wife six days later. Suddenly an orphan, Dove was taken into the army before his feet could even touch the streets. He excelled among the rest of his platoon in the junior soldiers. His control over his weapons was nearly supernatural. Unfortunately he was a bully. He beat up the other kids if they disobeyed him. He lashed out at them when he was corrected by a teacher. And he generally made the other kids miserable. The problem was that he was fast, strong, and smart. He had no contenders, no one who could present a challenge to him. Then suddenly he was yanked from his platoon and taken to a new training program. The new program had people in it who were better than him. He finally wasn't the best. He definitely not the worst, but he couldn't walk over his classmates anymore. It was good for him to not have so much power. He began learning to control his anger, because when he lashed out at these people it went badly for him. Pain is the best teacher, so he learned quickly. He spent seven years training, learning the art and trade of assassination from the best teachers in the Brotherhood, another year officially part of the Brotherhood, but more of an errand-boy than an assassin, and another three months as an actual assassin, though he hasn't actually gone on any assassination missions he's no longer being treated like a flunky.
