Description
Fanchion is a tall and stocky young man, obviously a veteran of hard work and rugged living. He carries the scent of windswept pines and mossy trees in his wake, his homespun cowled robes a testament to his sparse life. No one in the village has ever seen a weapon in his hand other than his smooth oak quarterstaff, which is used more for walking than for force. With the cowl pulled back, it is revealed that Brother Fanchion is rather attractive, with mousy brown hair, extending to his jaw and chin, and calm green eyes which do not so much sparkle as draw one into their deep, soothing depths.
Personality
Fanchion is a humble and kind man, holding faith in Avacyn despite recent lapses in the Church's influence to protect the common folk. His rugged bearing comes from a childhood of living in Ulvenwald. Unlike many of the clerics of Avacyn, his orientation is more nature-based and this brings a more relaxed and accepting attitude towards differences in people. He does not share the common mistrust of non-humans that others have, judging them on their actions rather than heritage. Even as passive as the templar is in general, this does not extend to those who would assail his flock. Werewolves, vampires, undead and demons will find a staunch defender of the innocent when he is encountered.

Even though his family are denizens of Lambholt, Fanchion spent much of his life wandering the many pathways of the Ulvenwald. He was raised, as everyone was, on the meat and drink of Avacynian doctrine. He grew in his faith, taking all the teachings to heart, augmented and transformed by what he learned in the deep recesses of the Misty Wood. When the rites of manhood came to him, it was found that Fanchion Abertain walked his own path. He took the Vows of Avacyn, pledging to do good works and to protect the folk of Innistrad to the best of his ability. This could have been the most noteworthy thing the young man accomplished in his life; but the subtle changes in the Feast of the Hunter's Moon brought equal changes in him as well. Fanchion knew what forces haunted the secluded places of the wood and when many of his friends, elder and younger alike, took to the Ulvenwald seeking fame in the slaying of the evil therein, he could not stand by and followed, vowing to bring back as many of his flock as he could. Despite his trials, when Brother Fanchion emerged from the wood two days later, it was with a man over his shoulders and a wolf loping at his side. Many of the town folk revolted at the companionship of the wolf; but Fanchion would hear none of it, proclaiming that the loyal beast had saved him from certain death, as well as that of the man he carried. His cargo proved to be Wenthan Horringrave, a butcher and would be slayer of werewolves. The butcher's survival and unlikely return successfully distracted the folk from the wolf and he was taken to the local shrine for care. Unfortunately, what should have been a blessing became a curse as the holiness of the shrine had waned in recent times, not able to prevent the curse of lycanthropy from taking the butcher. In the next full moon, a terrible hunger ripped through the man and many towns folk died before Fanchion himself arrived to put the beast down, his wolf tearing the throat from the transformed man. While not ejecting him from the village, it was made clear that Fanchion was no longer welcome and he was suggested to take the word of Avacyn abroad and do his works there.
