Savage elf. Brutal, Connected (+3 CHA based in smaller cities and rural areas), Tragic (won't shut up about sad things +3 perform act), Carefree Verloth was born to a small nomadic tribe of elves. He never really had much more than the bow on his back and a blade by his side, but he never really cared. His tribe traveled the landscape many times over, hunting and trading, and he had learned the workings of many of the small cities and villages in the area. Verloth was ninety-six years old when his tribe arrived for their regular visit to one of the small outlying villages along the game trails. Verloth was with his father, who was in the process of selling some venison to the butcher, when a group of bandits attacked the village. They began killing left and right, slaughtering anyone in sight. A pair of bandits burst into the butcher's shop, blades drawn. One grabbed Verloth and placed a dagger against his throat. The other proceeded to pull his father out of the shabby building. Verloth was shoved to the ground and forced to watch as his father was brutally executed. As the bandit guarding him laughed with malice, Verloth took advantage of the situation and snatched the dagger from his assailant, took a swipe at his hand and ran. When he reached the forest near the village, he clambered into a tree to hide. Moments later, he saw one of the bandits below him. Verloth dropped onto him and began hacking and stabbing as rage seethed within him. When he was done, the bandit was almost unrecognizable. He has spent the past nine years wandering with a twinge of sadness stuck in his heart. DM Notes: I like it. Don't change a thing. Here's your bridge to the campaign: Your aimless wanderings have led you to seek out strange and exotic lands. The rumors of an south-western island called "Iatonen" have been reaching your ears for sometime, and on a whim, you bought passage to the island. You start the game on the ship, en route to Iatonen. 1. Verloth is slightly more prone to order than his elven brethren. He worships the goddess Ehlonna which many of his elven brethren also worship due to their closeness to nature. 2. Verloth is a tall, slender elven male with red hair and green eyes. At times when no one is looking, he often has a sorrowful look on his face, but while in the presence of others he displays an air of carelessness to keep others from his pain. He dresses simply because that was how he was raised. 3. Verloth is a ranger because he grew up as a hunter. As a child he displayed great skill with a longbow and felt a connection with nature. 4. Verloth is not motivated by much of anything. He is simply a wanderer searching out new lands to explore. 5. Verloth trusts himself more than anyone around him. He never fully trusts anyone, but if one is able to show their competence in combat and are willing to help him, they will gain a portion of his trust. He will only revoke this trust if he is turned on through either combat or theft of his belongings. 6. His ability to hide and evade others is his main strength. His second greatest strength is his almost innate ability with a long bow. 7. Verloth's greatest weakness is that he carries the weight of sadness over him which, despite his attempts to hide it, rears its head every now and then causing him to stop almost anything he is doing to fix things. He cannot speak Common despite many attempts to learn it. 8. Verloth doesn't really like other people, but he thinks most humans are alright, though he doesn't quite trust them, and he finds most elves to be agreeable. He tends to distance himself from strangers. 9. Verloth doesn't believe in heroes. They do make for interesting stories though. 10. Villians are those that slaughter others without provocation or cause. Those that kill just to kill. He can't stand bandits and others with similar values. 11. Good people are those that are willing to help others in need. Evil are those who slaughter others without a cause. 12. Verloth doesn't much care for rulers. He sees their laws and will abide by them if they don't get in his way. 13. Verloth loves nature and the outdoors. As such, he doesn't particularly care for larger cities. He dislikes bandits and the like. He likes the dagger he used to make his first human kill and it is always on his person. He dislikes fires (because they occasionally remind him of his parents' death), and will generally put them out as soon as he can. He dislikes Common because he is unable to learn it. 14. When Verloth's hands aren't doing anything, they usually work their way to the handle of his dagger and if sitting, he will often turn it over in his hands (which he does as part of his meditation period). He will often stop and bury animals that he has found that weren't used for food. He often attempts to make light of harrowing events. Verloth will frequently stab enemies repeatedly with his dagger even after they are dead. 15. His only enemies are those that kill without reason. He will usually attack and slay those he witnesses committing such atrocities. 16. Verloth wishes to see as much of the world as he can. This may also be in an attempt to get as far away from his past as possible. 17. Verloth never plans to have a family. He fears that he may lose them just as he lost his tribe. 18. All of Verloth's relatives were slain in a bandit attack, so as far as he knows he has no living relatives. He may have relatives that grew tired of his tribe's nomadic lifestyle that settled down somewhere, but he does not know them. 19. Verloth feels most akin to other rangers, hunters and those that live in the forests. Those that are just learning how to hunt remind him of him when he was younger. 20. I say he should just get out there and experience the world. As an elf he will have plenty of time for his travels, so he should just take his time and enjoy the journey.
