Description
Little is known of Klinn's past more than rumor and hear-say. This is quite surprising as he is rather outspoken, especially for a monk! But the instant someone asks anything about his past, a glint of pain can be seen in his eye, and he slips into solitude. What the citizens of Sasserine have gathered is the following: He is originally from the small elven town of Anduin. (Well, big city by elven standards). His parents abandoned him when he was a mere 23 years old, leaving town, and were never heard from again. He bounced from foster home to foster home, but always found the freedom of living on the streets to be more inviting than living with people who pretended to care for him. He ended up quite the pest for the town, often caught shoplifting and threatening shop owners who refused to give him anything. At age 108, he was involved in an altercation with another beggar over a loaf of bread. This ended in Klinn brutally beating the beggar to death. The city had become rather tired of Klinn's actions, and were set to imprison him for life when the Church of St. Cuthbert stepped in. They offered a deal to Klinn. They had heard rumblings coming from the far away city of Sasserine. No information was coming from the city, and it was becoming rather worrisome that nothing had been heard from the Temple of St. Cuthbert in Sasserine. They needed somebody with "street smarts" to investigate for them. They told Klinn that he could clear his debt to society, and the gods, by dedicating himself to their cause, and going on a mission to Sasserine. Klinn, who had no purpose or direction in Anduin, was more than happy to start anew. Anduin was given no details of the arrangement aside from he'd be leaving the city, and Anduin was more than happy to be rid of him. The Church gave him the name Klinn (nobody knows what his true birth name is), and he set off to Sasserine, where he has lived in the basement of the Temple of St. Cuthbert in Cudgel ever since. Upon arrival, Klinn had found the city under the rule of the Sea Princes. The Temple had sent many couriers to spread news of the takeover of the Sea Princes, but each had been murdered once they entered the forests and mountains surrounding Sasserine. Klinn, being a crafty elf, began trapping pigeons to use as carrier pigeons to spread the word of the takeover of Sasserine by the Sea Princes. This led him to getting in contact with the Scarlet Brotherhood, who eventually took over the city. He also sent many anonymous letters to Anduin, warning his brethren to stay away from Sasserine to avoid being caught up in the violence. His primary role, however, was to quietly lead the people of Cudgel during the rebellion, earning him favor within the district and through much of the city. The Church was so impressed with Klinn, and the town of Anduin was so grateful upon learning that Klinn authored the warnings to keep their people safe, that they offered him the chance to come back to Anduin to establish a permanent Temple of St. Cuthbert in which he would be the presiding bishop. However, Klinn had fallen in love with Sasserine and its citizens over his 119 years there, and decided to remain to help rebuild. Klinn is well-regarded in the district of Cudgel for his role in retaking Sasserine, but needs no recognition for it. He still lives in the basement of the Temple of St. Cuthbert in Cudgel, on the same cot he has slept on for 129 years. He can often be seen all over town preaching to the people of Sasserine to embrace the teachings of his church, namely, to obey the law, be good, and to use common sense, virtues he wishes he had in his adolescence.
