At a young age beyond her recollection, Hime found herself at the doorstep of the Otohime family - then childless and only small business owners. The couple took the toddler in as their own despite her oddity, using her presence to push themselves to new heights of success. She was raised an only child as her parents become an international couple of businessfolk - essentially aristocrats by the time she reaches her teens, making Hime rather live up to her name ('princess'). Occassionally nicknamed Hime-hime, or even Hime-hime-hime when someone is particularly cheeky, she was quite the favourite at parties and meetings, always known for being quite the sunny little mascot to her parents. In recent months however, she has been the subject of some rather derisive gossip coming off the heels of some very suspect events that have given her the reputation of nothing less than a lunatic; screaming about 'the voices' and 'the destroyers' at a fundraiser (moments after meeting the complete Shinra executives for the first time) and being reduced to tears until her parents extracted her, being rather dramatically dumped by her boyfriend - a celebrity relationship whose termination was of course in the papers for a while, particularly when he testified his belief that she was 'on something' and 'beyond help', as well as a series of other rumours about scandals, which may or may not be true, that have been popping up in recent months after the better known events. The truth of the matter is that Hime is a Cetra hearing the voice of teh planet, crying as it is laid to waste by the progress of man; she is more in tune with it than any other being, but is not aware of the nature of this awareness beyond the most base understanding. She might have lived her life with it as a minor distraction, but she was born in an age where the Shinra electric power company was bound to make rapid progress - the harvesting of Mako and exploiting of JENOVA, and without instruction of who and what she is, she has been left with nothing more than the bare feeling it leaves her with the hear the planet; that of an inevitable sort of dread, a deep inescapable torment that mirrors the planet's own feeling, and a disappointment at herself for not doing anything about it - for not being ABLE to do anything about it or even comprehend what she should do. All of these worries spring from a single, unifying event in her past - specifically, her conferring with the planet. When she was young, she came to know the voice of the planet as she did her parents; much like a child learning her first words as they are spoken to, she was learning the voice of the planet. Her parents just thought of her occassional talking to herself as a sign of loneliness, something they struggled to correct for a while, but nothing too major. Where it came to a head though, was her 'experience'. She went missing for a period of time upward of a week off on some Ghibli-esque adventure where she met a manifestation of the planet. It told her of her destiny and she promised to fulfill it. When she returned though, brimming with the planets radiance, her parents couldnt' have reacted worse to her disappearance of her talk of 'destiny', of the danger she would face. Thus, they kept her under a much closer watch - the fact that she never told them who presumably kidnapped her was all the creepier - but the one face she described, that of the planet, she was conditioned to think of malicious. In the end, she was raised and taught to ignore the voice, to try and surround herself with people to drown it out; she took up loud hobbies, always having a player full of upbeat music and sound-proof headphones as her 'big guns' when no one else is around, always going to sleep with them on - lest her dreams speak of her duty. Of course, as time wears by such distractions have to get more and more extravagant and outlandish and boisterous or else are taken in the stride of her premonitions; by age 15 she got herself into a long string of boyfriends and extreme sports. In recent years, and more frequently with her bad press, Hime has been attending a psychiatrists, describing the inescapability of the voices. How as the planet declines, she feels all the more helpless - a correllation neither of them notice. Her therapist has instead advised, along with a series of prescriptions that just don't seem to work below the 'permanent brain damage' limit (at best getting her down to a constant, 'I KNOW I left the oven on' stress at all times and prone to anxiety fits) and drawn the conclusion it stems from living without direction in her parent's shadows - and has pushed her to get a higher education. Hime was slated to become a doctor, as it so happens. However, last week, a certain Shinra agent seemed to have access to her files, the notes of the therapy session if nothing else. Drawing the conclusion, as a Turk, that Hime was a Cetra rather than a sufferer of schitzophrenia (though it's not clear yet how he received a tip to look into Hime's casefile) a hit was put on her, to have her dragged back to Shinra HQ, Aeris-style. While shopping for a few extravagent items, she was confronted by the market place - narrowly avoiding the Turk's due to a last minute scream from teh planet. Not even having returned home yet, or confered with her parents, she has been on the run for some time, using an intermitent withdrawal of her inheritence as she goes to fund her escape. She's fled across the sea to Junon, where our story begins...
