Description
Carla wears a dark gray outfit that consists of a shirt that leaves her shoulders exposed, arm-length gloves, leg-high boots, and a long, concealing cloth belted around her middle. A rapier of fine make hangs from the left side of her belt. Her tanned skin indicates a life spent outside, as do the many small scars that, while not very visible, are proof of many encounters with thorns and branches. Her silver hair gives some indication of her heritage, though it is her pointed ears that are proof to being an elf. Though her hair falls beyond her waist, her bangs are kept out of her face, leaving her amber eyes easily visible.
Personality
For the most part, Carla acts as a voice of reason. She likes to plan before making any decisions and supports practical courses of action. This can make her seem a bit cold to people who do not know her. To those that do, it is more apparent that her intent is to help as much as she can. She does not want to see anyone die in their missions, thus she is cautious. That said, she has no desire to be a leader. Carla much prefers being an adviser who lets the final decisions be made by either the person in charge or through majority agreement. When speaking about matters outside of battle or similar affairs, Carla has a difficult time starting conversations. She is happy to respond to people who talk to her and tries to be friendly, though she can do a poor job of reading how others feel about her words. With more of her time spent in the wilderness and amongst a limited community, she has less experience at being social. Carla does best at talking to children because their emotions are more easily displayed, plus she has a gentle spot for them. What she is good at is telling when people have underlying motives or suspicious traits. So while Carla suffers in casual conversation, she does a decent job at detecting if people are trying to get something out of her. Carla's morals are strong in keeping other people safe. She cannot take hits well, so she specializes in distracting opponents. Her aim is to dodge attacks they make, which prevents those blows from being aimed at her allies. Even if she is at odds with some decisions or personality traits of other group members, Carla views being part of a group as a personal vow that she is meant to keep them safe. As such, she is deeply loyal to her partners unless one was to betray her trust.

Carla was born in a small village with mostly elves populating it. Though not necessarily a secret village, the residents prefer to not let its existence be well known. Most moved there for seclusion and quiet from the outside world. Many of the citizens focused on studying history and lore, while others were engrossed in tomes of magic. The society leaned heavily toward education, with their gates open to anyone who was willing to embrace learning. Carla's mother was a traveler who decided to stay at the village for a little while. Her father was a resident who had lived there all his life with his studies focusing on arcane magic. Her father fell in love with her mother, and at first, it seemed like a happy couple. Births were rare in the village, so Carla's was celebrated. A few months later, however, her mother left without any warning. The only thing she left was a note saying that she could not be happy without continuously traveling, and that she did not want a child strapping her down. Though devastated that the woman he loved had left him, Carla's father still cared deeply for his daughter. He put all his effort into raising her the best he could. Not having a mother present was an empty spot in Carla's life, but she barely thought about it when past her earliest years. She loved her father and wanted to make him happy. He tried to teach her magic like what he knew, and as much as she tried, Carla could not get the hang of it. She could not grasp magic at all and found her strengths lay in her knowledge of the surrounding forest. From her outings, Carla's body was fit and dexterous, with her mind full of facts about the wilderness. At first she was afraid her father would be disappointed. On the contrary, he was extremely pleased that Carla had found something that made her happy and encouraged her to continue with what made her happiest. This led to Carla joining the small group of guards the village had once she was an adult. She would go on scouting missions to make sure the perimeters were safe. It was rare for anything to occur, but a couple of times she had to fight some monsters that were considered too close and dangerous to leave on their own. This gave her some experience in combat, though she was far from a great warrior. It also meant that she knew her home terrain well, but lacked knowledge of the outside world. Her life took a large turn a year ago when her father received a message from her mother out of the blue. The message said that she was sorry for abandoning them. She had felt guilty and considered coming back, but continued her travels instead. Fifty-five years ago, she had gotten pregnant from a relationship with another elf and had given birth to a young boy named Teo. The boy's father had taken him in so she could continue her travels. However, he died recently, forcing her to return to collect the boy. With her remorse over leaving Carla and her father, she wanted to know if they would accept her back into the family to make up for her many lost years. Carla was aware of her mother's past actions, so the message made her more disgusted than anything. If she felt so sorry, why had she waited this long to contact them? Was it a ploy to drop another child off so she could run off again? Even though this upset Carla, one thing kept coming back to her. She had a half-brother, and it certainly was not his fault that his mother was an unfaithful, deceptive person. Carla wanted to meet this brother of hers if nothing else. She asked her father if he would be all right with her leaving to meet them at the designated town in the message. He agreed to Carla's request and was secretly glad that she would have a reason to see more of the world outside of the village. For a person like her, he felt it was important to have her experience traveling. It took some months for Carla to reach the town specified. When she did and went to the inn, she found that her mother had been killed a few weeks ago. Someone had cut her down with a blade, and without any witnesses, there were no ideas on who had been responsible for the murder. Teo had not been on the scene, nor had he been seen at all since the incident. Though Carla was still furious at her mother's previous actions, she felt some sadness at losing her before they could make amends. Carla stayed long enough to make sure she got a proper tombstone. Then she set off with the goal of finding her brother. Since Carla had no idea of where to look for Teo, she decided the best course of action was to get enough money to hire a wizard, or someone of similar magic capabilities, to cast a scrying spell on her brother. The problem was that she had no idea of how to get the gold needed. She found an opportunity in a band of adventurers she met in the next city over. As a part of their group, they had bought a map to locations that most likely had a good amount of wealth in them. Then bad luck had caused the boat they took to be severely damaged by storms. In the ensuing fight with a group of sahuagin, weakness from starvation had caused Carla to not have the coordination for the dodges and maneuvers she needed to fight effectively. She was badly wounded and would have died if not for a nymph, Alcinadea, saving them. Carla's gratitude to the nymph was great enough that she wanted to repay her somehow. Her top priority is still to find her younger brother, but if she could help Alcinadea somehow in the process, that would be even better. --- 1. How and why did your character become an adventurer? Carla initially started working as a scout for her home village so she could help the other citizens out. It was her job, in a sense, though she did not get paid for it. The village residents were expected to all help in their own ways, and this was the way she did her part. What truly caused her to become an adventurer was the news that she had a brother. Even though he was not where she was first told, her worry for his safety has caused her to continue traveling. 2. How did your character acquire her class levels? Spending much of her time in the forest around her village, along with fighting some of the monsters that could have been threats to it, has given her some experience. She also learned more about the world by traveling to the distant town where her mother was supposed to be. Even with these events, Carla still has much to learn and see with her own eyes. 3. What (if any) is the significance of your character’s starting equipment, and how did she get it? Her rapier was presented to her after she proved her capabilities of assisting the guards of the village. They also gave her other necessary equipment, such as items for surviving in the wilderness and her leather armor. Her father gave her a small steel mirror to go with it, saying that it was a useful item that could serve her in many ways. Though dubious at this claim, Carla has kept it with her ever since he gave it to her. 4. What is the worst thing that has ever happened to her? Finding out her mother died before they had a chance to ever meet. Though Carla holds much disdain for her mother, she had a secret hope that they might be able to connect after all the years they were apart. That chance is now gone, and she regrets it deeply. 5. What is the best thing that has happened to her? Her father learning of her desires to be part of the guards around the village terrain and fully supporting her are what Carla considers the best incident in her life. It showed how much her father cared about her, to the point that he did not mind her taking a path in life that could painfully remind him of the woman he had once loved. That type of love is something she hopes she can replicate for Teo someday. 6. What is her relation with her family like? The person Carla is closest to right now is her father. She loved him growing up and came to new appreciations of how much effort he put into raising her without her mother present, along with keeping up with his own studies. In contrast, Carla is severely disappointed in her mother's actions and has little to say in positive light for her. She did not wish death on her mother, but there was little grief to be had over the incident. Teo is the only other family member she knows of, but she has never personally met him. She hopes to bring him back home so that she and her father can raise him due to his natural parents being gone.
