Description
Lon is an ordinary looking young man with short, inexpertly cut light brown hair. He stands 54 with a slight build. He looks human, until you catch sight of his ears and the cast of his brown eyes. Then you realize that he must be half-elven. His eyes never seem to stay in one place, always checking out what is around his, looking over his shoulder. He rarely seems to relax. He wears ordinary cheap clothes breeches, shirt, boots with a pair of daggers in his boots and a rapier at his side. Bright chain can be seen under his shirt and carries a short bow.
Personality
Lon is not a very trusting person. He always seems to be looking over his shoulder. It isnt that hes a particularly quiet person. In fact, he doesnt mind talking to others. However, if you listen carefully, you might realize that he isnt really saying much. In fact, if one pays attention and remembers, you might even catch him in contradictions. With all that, he is not a friendly person, and if someone rubs him the wrong way, he can be quite rude. If he finds a group or a person that he comes to believe he can trust, he will give them his complete loyalty.

Background Lon's mother was Ellialiel Serrama, an elf from a middle class merchant family. Eighteen years ago, Ellialel was traveling with a caravan when it was attacked by a gang of highwaymen and robbed. Most of the guards and many of the travelers were killed and the few women with them were raped. Lons mother was among them. When it became obvious that he was pregnant from a base human highwayman, his family turned her out in shame. Ellialiel made her way to a large city, a trip she never spoke of. Not wishing her to starve, her family had given her some money. It was not enough to live well for long. Ellialiel found a room in a poor part of town. In time, she gave birth. After a long and difficult labor, she was delivered of a boy, Lon. Ellialiel was not a very good mother. Her troubles had weakened her spirit and she was never quite sane. She both loved and hated Lon. Loved him because he was her son, but hated him because he was a living reminder of her disgrace and the human that destroyed her life. Ellialiel stayed inside and hardly ever went out. Lon spent his time on the streets. Lons natural dexterity and intelligence allowed him to survive in spite of his lack of brute strength and his being a half-elf. He soon fell in with a gang who taught him the ways of the thief. Lon had no problem with stealing what he could from those with more. In fact, he was quite good at it. But, for some reason, he found himself holding back when the gang would do more violent crimes , or crimes against those in poor circumstances. This led to occasional confrontations some he won and some he lost. Not being willing to go against his gang, Lon found himself taking part in some activities that he would rather forget. All this changed when Lon was 17, about four months after his mother had died. It was night, and they were roaming the alleys looking for some easy silver. Down an alley, they saw a man wearing robes slowly walking. As they quietly moved up behind him, he suddenly spun around, his hands moving in a strange pattern as he mumbled words they couldnt understand. Suddenly, they found themselves unable to move. The man laughed, moving towards them. As he reached the group, they heard him say softly, Nice try, my children, but I can give no charity, otherwise youll never need to learn better skills. With that he deftly stripped them of all their money and most of their weapons. However, while he was taking Lons money and knife, he made sure that Lon was the only one that could see him slip a piece of paper into Lons now empty purse. Later, alone, Lon looked at the slip of paper all it had written on it was an address. A few days later, Lon slipped away from the gang and went to the small house found at the address. He knocked on the door and was greeted by the man in the alley. I wondered when you would get here, Lon, the man said. H-h-ow do you know my name? Ive had my eye on you for a while. I am Raf and I am a priest of the Master of All Thieves Mask. Please come in. We need to talk. Raf and Lon talked well into the night. Raf spoke of his philosophy (an offshoot of the worship of Mask), that stealing helps people. It teaches them that possessions arent important. Once they learn that they can still be happy without what was stolen, they are freer than they were before. Lon takes readily to this tone of thought and stays with Raf for nearly a year as Raf takes him under his wing. He learns how to defend himself better, how to use a bow, and, of course, how to be a better thief. At first Lon never leaves his new home except at night. Then after time, as he learns the art of disguise, Raf allows his out during the day. After Raf feels that he is ready Lon has stolen some leather armor as well as a bow, and, he escorts Lon to the gates of the city. Raf smiles and says, Use what you have learned, my child. It is time for you to leave and go out on your own.
