First up are the brave duo of
Gate Guards, who held off the assault on the Gates long enough for their companions to come assist them, giving up their lives in the process. Each was encased in a massive shell of Full Plate armor, emblazoned with powerful imagery of shields, blazing suns, and strong warriors. The armor itself, though subjected to dozens of attacks and assaults, seems in
impeccable shape, only giving out once its wearer was out of the picture. The spears they carried, each nearly twice their height, were vicious implements of warfare, massive metal shafts tapered to a lethal point. Soaked in the gore of several different monsters, they are nonetheless completely undamaged, and ooze with as much magic as they do blood. Each Guard had used a Large steel shield in the battle, along with sharp and
well-edged Longswords on scabbards attached to their belts.
Besides small daggers used more often for dining than combat, these two Guards carry little of interest. A couple dozen Gold coins each, along with various personal effects. Each Guard also carries a large bronze key, rusty with age but not disuse, and a pendant from the Mayor around their necks. Consisting of a small gold-colored disc upon a string of rope, the medallion features a Shield and Spear as its motif, likely signifying the Guards' rank and status.
The other half-dozen or so
City Guards killed in the battle are much less interesting than the two elite Gate Guards, though they do carry
high-quality Longswords and daggers. Each wears
tightly-fitted suits of Breastplate, some carrying metal shields and the others small bucklers. A trio of Guards also carries Longbows, these clearly the Archers that had helped hold the Wall against attack, their small quivers mostly emptied.
None of these fellows carries much in the way of wealth, some 30 to 40 Silver each, these coin-purses tending to disappear as the corpses are moved together into a large group...
