Torss only reveals his natural form when faced with a problem that cannot be addressed otherwise.

Torss's natural form is that of an immensely tall, ridiculously-well-built humanoid. His tusks and small, beady eyes are indicative of an orcish background, but anyone would be hard-pressed to call Torss an orc. His face is somewhat elongated - almost forming a snout - and the orc's protruding tusks are complemented by a row of razor-sharp teeth which are visible only when he opens his mouth. He has a line of sharp spikes shielding his glittering red eyes and small spikes line each side of his mandible, pointing downwards. All over his body, Torss has bony plates that just out as spines, especially on the caps of joints, like the elbows and shoulders.
Torss wears a keffiyeh around his face and loose-fitting garments which he uses (poorly) to hide his menacing appearance.

Torss's favorite predator form is that of a long, sinuous-but-powerful dragonne (but without the wings). He keeps to this quadrupedal form nearly all the time. One thing which remains constant from his humanoid figure is the color of the dragonne's eyes, which are the same wild red, giving the slight impression of derangement.

Torss was born to a tribe of desert orcs (the "Blooded Rock" tribe) and was expected to bring them great strength because of his alternative parentage. He was taught the ways of their battle rage from the warriors and learned to live and listen to the desert from the shaman of the tribe. Torss very quickly thought himself better than the leader of his people and challenged him. The leader, an orc named Grithar, laughed at the young Torss and turned the warriors on the upstart.
Torss was forced to flee for his life. He thought the action to be a sign of the cowardice of Grithar and an omen that the orc was not fit to lead his own tribe. Since he could not hope to defeat the whole tribe at once, Grithar surrendered himself to wanderlust and the desert wind and went out to demonstrate his fitness to be the master of his people.

Torss has a very confrontational attitude, believing in nothing if not that nature is red in tooth and nail. Only those who are fit to survive can survive, and every living thing is constantly tested from many sides. Only the greatest can come to control those around them and to make decisions that stand for a group. People who display weakness to the orc deserve to be mastered at best and at worst, they should be shunned. Torss could follow a strong leader who makes good decisions and who fights his own fights, but that leader would have to have a grip of iron and be able to control the willful orc.

Torss's pleasures are simple. He enjoys showing that he is strong, fast, or cunning. These qualities are most easily shown through the hunt, and Torss tries to never eat anything that he did not personally chase down and kill.

Small, dark and tricksome . . . Nori is not nearly so harmless as she seems. She does her best to maintain an innocent, almost child-like demeanor -- small and cute, thin and frail, weak and willowy. She is dark-skinned and scantily-clad. She is fond of wearing feminine jewelry -- her long pointed ears are pierced with studs and rings of gold. She weaves desert flowers into her long flowing brown hair. Even the dye on her lips, rouge on her cheeks and ink around her dark violet eyes make her look more like a precocious young girl than a painted-faced woman.

Despite her child-like appearance, Nori is in fact a cold-blooded killer. She only seems innocent until one really gets to know her. Then, one discovers that her tongue is as razor-sharp as her many dagger blades, and her mind is as poisoned with death as the scorpion-god she claims to worship. Few actually do get to know her, however, since most who have a brush with her die in the dark, from a venom-tipped knife to the back. But, despite her calculating cruelty, Nori is above all a businesswoman. She kills not for spite or on any sort of principle. She is not motivated by anything personal or political. She works for profit, pure and simple. She doesn't care whether her victim is 'good' or 'evil', so long as her patron pays in proper currency and on time. Hence, she accepted the Imperial call to find safe passage to the Oasis simply because of the offer of hefty reward.

Nori came to Dahl hoping to disappear. Her last job had ended badly. She'd been made and now the family of her latest victim was on her trail. She had hoped that the extremity of the locale and its chaotic trading market might provide her the perfect place to lie low for a while.

She was wrong. Nori spotted her mark's eldest brother in the bazaar just yesterday. And so, needing to leave town in a hurry -- and not wanting to do so without the prospect of a new opportunity to make some coin -- she accepted the Imperial call to scout passage to the Oasis.

This is what Nori has been doing for most of her life: accepting dangerous, yet lucrative jobs, and then running or hiding when things get a little too dangerous. She never intended to become a thief and an assassin. It just happened that for a poor, solitary gnome in a land of rough and brutal longshanks, the choices were few. And she knew she didn't want to end up as an 'exotic' in some caliphate's harem or some desert rat's brothel.

The jobs have been everything from petty theft to assassination. The hiding out has been anything from simple disguises to running off with a band of goblinoid desert raiders. It was among them that she picked up her unusual devotion to Al-Ishtus, though one might suspect that her religious devotion is anything but sincere. She seems more interested in the secrets of venom extraction and usage than in theological doctrines or dogmas.

But from the marauders of the waste she also learned to impersonate a bhuka goblin child -- a skill she still uses to great effect when necessary. And it is especially necessary for a whisper gnome like her. In a land where gnomes are rare enough, a whisper gnome -- above ground -- is a noteworthy sight almost guaranteed to draw unwanted attention. It is definitely a hindrance in her line of work.

But, Nori hadn't chosen this life for herself. Any chance at a normal life was destroyed forever when, as a child, her cavern homeland was invaded by goblin raiders, and she was kidnapped for sale or sport, or both. She didn't stick around to find out which one it would be. At the first opportunity, Nori slipped her bonds, slayed her captor, stole supplies and took off running. It's pretty much been the same thing every day since.

I tend to post 1/day during the week and less on weekends. I like to keep a steady pace, so long as RL allows. I enjoy writing and role-playing, so I try to give my posts some depth of character and feeling. Depending on the DMs preference, I like to include thoughts in addition to actions, to give my characters added dimension. I prefer to post in present tense. In PbP, I also like to have my DM make most of my passive and reactive rolls for me (Skills like Listen, Spot, Knowledge; Initiatives; Saves; even AOOs) to save time and to keep things moving.

EDIT 2: Well, that beats +5 total mod . . . but if you don't mind, I think I'll keep the first set. I built my character around those stats, and I don't really want to change her too much. If you accept her for the game, and you think she'll be underpowered, then maybe we can work something out, but I'm not looking for any favors.

You see before you a strong-looking female almost seven feet tall, with black hair braided with tiny white rocks. She wears leather armor she cured herself from an antelope, and there is an extraordinarily savage glint in her eyes. An enormous black raven perches on her shoulder and leers at everyone with what appears to be an above-average intelligence.
