Victor never met his father Ivan Yarygin because he was not allowed to leave Russia after he tried to defect. His father was a famous Russian wrestler in his hay days. He was a hero among the Russian people, and a credit to his country. When he failed to place in the 1980 Olympics the Russian government started to apply pressure on him to do better. However due to his many injuries and age he was not the wrestler that he once was.
With his career in a slump the government assigned him to train other wrestlers using new and questionable methods. When he refused to partake in what he considered a delusion of the sport the government became nasty and started to harass his wife Natasha. She was pregnant with their first child and they felt that this would motivate him. And it worked just not how they had anticipated. His wife gave birth to a son and he now had all the motivation he needed to leave his country. His first attempt was in August of 1983 but he pulled back as he realized that they would not make it. His second attempt was in October of 1985 when he found out that his wife was pregnant with their second child. They made it to the boarder and into the hands of a couple of agents that were waiting to helping him defect. However he was snagged just before crossing the border, his wife and child made it across. Ivan made a deal with the Russian government that he would stay and train the athletes if they would let his wife and child leave Russia. They agreed.
After reaching their new country they were given political asylum and citizenship to this country. They were set up in a small house in the suburbs of the City on Water where Victor, and his twin sister Jessica, were born. By the age of 5 it was already obvious that Victor was not normal and he was diagnosed with
Excessive growth and too much height due to chronic over activity of the pituitary gland which is located at the base of the brain. (Growth hormone is specifically made by the anterior pituitary gland.)
In pituitary gigantism, there is a secretion of too much growth hormone before the end of adolescence. People with pituitary gigantism can truly be called giants. They can sometimes end up over 7 or 8 feet in height.
When too much growth hormone is secreted after adolescence, there cannot be an increase in height but a condition called acromegaly ensues. The cardinal manifestations of acromegaly include thickening of the skin, soft tissues, and bones of the hands and feet. These effects are insidious and very slowly progressive. Ultimately they cause considerable disability (aside from the need for larger rings, gloves, and shoes) including hoarseness, sleep apnea, joint pain, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, insulin resistance, visual impairment and severe headaches.
Pituitary Gigantism and acromegaly may be caused by an adenoma of the pituitary (a tumor of the pituitary) or by other causes. Treatment is usually possible via medication or surgery. Inadequate treatment of pituitary gigantism and acromegaly is associated with increases in deaths from cardiovascular causes, cancer, and other causes. |
Pituitary gigantism: a rare hormone disorder that cause those that are inflicted to grow far larger than normal. At the age of eight he was 5’-8” tall and pushing 150 pounds. The other children would mock him behind his back, and avoid him at all costs. He had a very lonely childhood as even his brother would tease him.
In high school he wanted to be a wrestler but he was already 6’-9” tall and pushing 325 pounds. This concerned the other parents and the other schools as well. The coaches of the other schools got together and pressured the school board into banning him from sports; for fear that he would hurt the rest of the children.
Just shortly after his 13th birthday he was informed that his father had died in a car accident. It was widely suspected that the crash was no accident. It was rumored that Ivan had decided to join his family The Russian government would not allow that to happen. They used this accidental death to track down Ivan’s family. His effects were turned over to the state department and they just simply traced the package to them. They wanted to bring her back to Russia to play the part of the grief stricken widow of a national hero, they did not succeed. Petre wanted nothing to do with anything that belonged to his father so Victor received all of his gold medals; he carries the 1976 gold medal with him to this day..
Victor wasn’t the smartest in his class but he did get good grades, he graduated in the top 10% of his class. After graduation he wanted to join the WWE and become a wrestler. He left his mother’s home and moved to the inner city where he could get the connections that he needed. The thing that he noticed first about this city is that the crowds are massive enough to swallow even him. Sure he would get the occasional stare but for the most part the city was ambivalent to his presence.
Just shortly after he arrived in the city he caught the attention of, Jacob “The Hammer” Comanov, a Lieutenant in the local Russian mafia that wanted to use Victor for his own profit. He continually tried pressuring Victor into working for him and Victor gently refused. Then The Hammer got insistent and cornered Victor in a dead end alleyway with some of the local muscle. They were trying to press gang Victor into joining, but just at that time a young man rounder the corner and momentarily distracted the thugs. This was enough for Victor to grab a board and defend himself. The Hammer barely escaped but the other three didn’t, but the message was loud and clear Victor would not be pressured into a life of crime. This is where he met Gill
Gilford Thomas was a man with a dream; ok a boy with a plan. He dreamed of being a doctor and saving lives. He was enrolled in the University taking his foundation courses and trying to qualify for the Bellim Neurological Institute. Gill would often joke that he would cure Victor some day and make him a real person. Even though it was a joke there was some under lying truth in there. Victor didn’t feel like a real person. Gill did make it into Bellim Neurological Institute and graduated. He is now a resident at Saint Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in the City on Water’s Upper East Side. Gill is his Primary Care Physician and coordinates the medical team that cares for Victor’s specific medical needs. Gill also introduced him to Nicholas Rosenberger an agent with some pull in show business.
Nick was happy to become Victor’s agent and manager signing him to a lucrative contract with the agency. Since the contract was Nick’s so was the account. He took a personal interest in Victor’s career after all the more Victor earned the more he would earn. Nick submitted the application to the actor’s guild and once it was accepted he introduced Victor to the WWE. The WWE found Victor astonishing, not since Andre the Giant had there been someone this large in their midst. They were concerned about how raw he was to the acting but were sure that they could train him. Victor signed a contract with the WWE preventing him from participating in any other sporting activity without their express approval. Nick negotiated a deal with Gold’s Gym for Victor to work out there (see Gold’s Gym below). He also hires one of the gyms personal trainers to help get him into shape.
Now that his physical training was being handled Nick hired a stuntman to teach Victor how to act like he was really wrestling. This was probably the hardest part for Victor to learn, yes he could take a hit from most men and not be hurt but to hit back and not hurt his opponent was a different story. He had to learn how to fall, slam and be slammed, how to throw someone and how to take a dive, all without any harm to either party. The training went well but he looks a bit clumsy while doing it, this should add a level of believability to him being beaten by someone so much smaller than him.
After the physical training was complete and he had packed on another 50 or so pound of lean muscle mass he was enrolled in the School of Fine Arts where he earned Associates of the Arts degree in acting. They could not have their new monster being all nice, that would be counterproductive. He learned how to smack his foot to the flood as he walked to emphasize his size and how to carry himself in a bold and menacing manner. They even taught him how to scowl and let out a terrifying roar. This was all done in the name of show business.
With a scowl on his face and the sound of thunder as he walked he was ready for the ring. They set up a smoke machine in the door that he was to enter from and shined a light behind him to add mystery to his entrance. As he entered the arena area the crowd gasped in awe of his size and build. He was facing Tyson Kid, one of the fan favorites, and he was to put on a good show. As he stepped up to the ring he grabbed one of the corner posts and stepped up. The ring shook violently and the floor moaned under his weight. The audience enjoyed this and let out a roar of joy, and then he stepped over the ropes making the crowd go nuts.
There he stood in the middle of the ring with Tyson Kid, someone that he would have been happy to get an autograph from just two months earlier. He was a full two feet taller and one and a half times wider than him. He raises a hand to his opponents face and quietly speaks “I hope I will do well”. Tyson Kid fought a laugh as that would not look good in the ring and responded “You will”
As he returned to his corner he couldn’t help thinking about his father and what he might say if he knew what wrestling had become.
‘Ding’ the bell sounded and Victor launched out of his corner landing in the middle of the ring with a hideously loud smack. The ring shook and the ref looked like he really lost his balance. The audience gasps at the sound and he even heard someone say “Oh My God”. Tyson Kid launched out of his corner and smack into Victor’s waiting chest, and then landing with a thud to the mat. Victor raises a foot to stomp but there was no one to smash as his opponent had rolled out from underneath him with style. Then bringing a foot around and catching Victor in the back of the knee brings him down.
As his body hits the mat the audience jumps to their feet cheering at the sight. Tyson Kid jumped up and circles the fallen giant smashing his foot down on his chest and then on his hip. Victor caught the third attempt and threw the little man across the ring while still in a prone position. Tyson Kid hit the corner pole and slid to the ground like a kid’s toy.
They both got to their feet and cautiously circled one another looking for an opening. Then Victor raises his arm and charges but his opponent was too fast and tripped him as he went by. Tyson Kid hurled himself onto Victor’s back and wrapped an arm around his thick neck. Victor stood up with no more effort than it takes to standing from a chair. Launching himself backwards and to the mat he tried to catch his opponent beneath him, but Tyson Kid was to quick and lets go rolling out of Victor way, Victor smacks the mat hard. As he stands he hears ‘Ding’ and he stumbles back to his corner thinking only seven more rounds of this.
The next six rounds pass with much the same show as the first with slight variations on who won the round, then they entered the eighth round. This is where Victor was to allow Tyson Kid to pin him. That wouldn’t be hard because victor was getting tired, He didn’t have the stamina that he needed to last this long. Tyson Kid did a scissor lock on Victor’s legs and brought him to the mat, flat on his face. That actually hurt as his nose trickled a bit of blood. Tyson Kid rolled over onto the downed giant and grabbing his shoulder rolled him over, with Victor’s help. Then he slams down and pins Victor to the mat. Smack “One”, smack “Two”, smack “Three” yells the ref and the bell rings. Tyson Kid has beaten the Mighty Giant. The crow is standing and cheering as the ref raises Tyson Kids hand “And the winner is Tyson Kid”
The crowd was in awe that Tyson Kid won over Victor, who lay beaten on the flood. The press likened it to chopping down a tree or moving a mountain. Victor’s debut was a success for all concerned.
After losing several fights he was allowed to win one. He was to make it look like he went berserk; tarring up the ring and savagely beating his opponent. This he could do. They practiced the bout several time just to be sure that no one would get hurt. However during the match he got over zealous and broke one of his opponent’s ribs. The crowds on the other hand found his rage exhilarating and rewarded the show with cheers, cheers worthy of an ancient Roman Gladiator. And this is when Victor knew he was hooked.
After that match his popularity sky rocketed. He won more and more matches in a fit of rage, as fake as it may be, that stirred the crowds into a fevered frenzy. He became popular enough that Nick felt he needed a girlfriend. So he handpicked Cassandra Dresher, another one of his clients, to be his escort to a party. At this party they hit it off. She wasn’t like everyone else. She wasn’t afraid of him. He liked that and before they knew it they were a real couple. This worked out well for everyone involved, Victor because he looked obtainable, Cassandra because she is dating an up and coming star, Nick because it helped promote both.
Shortly after his popularity started Nick recommended a personal assistant that would help manage his time. That sounded good to him as he hated the scheduling crap anyway. The woman was Teresa Sanchez. A self motivated professional that had a head for business. Victor found out that she also knows how to cook and she has cooked many a meal for him and Cassandra.
Nick and Teresa together convinced Victor that it would be a good idea to start a limited liability corporation and turn his career into a business. The LLC is comprised of professionals that work directly for him and agencies that represent his interests in the various aspects of running a business. Most of the business management is left to this team so that Victor can concentrate on his career and not be burdened with the rest. His life seemed to be on the fast track and he was happy to ride it to the top or where ever it let him off at, however all of that changed when he found a glowing rock in a box in his dressing room.
Victor, returning to his dressing room after defeating Chris Masters in a Smackdown match, was just looking forward to getting in the steam room and sweating it out. The steam really helped take the ache out of a good match. This was probably one of his favorite parts of the post match wind down. After 15 minutes in the stream room he knew that he needed to get to his dressing room for his rub down and check up by Gill.
His rub down had just started and Gill was checking his pulse when the masseuse noticed a box on the counter. It had Victor’s name on it a so he handed it to him. Victor was curious and opened the box but all he saw was a rock that had a slight heat and very slight glow. There looked to be a note on the bottom under the rock so he lifter it. At that very second it happened. He started to flop around like a fish out of water and then he stopped. His heart had given way to the stress and beat no more. All he could see was light and a man standing in the distance. The man spoke in Russian.
“Victor my son it is not your time” the man said
Victor “Father is that you”
Man “Yes son I long to have you with me but now is not the time”
Victor “Wait father I need” The light faded and he was unable to finish his sentence.
Then he felt an electrical surge going through his body and wrapping around his heart. It felt like a mule kicking him from inside the chest. Gill had zapped him with the defibrillator that is always in his room. There was also shouting in the halls for someone to contact Betty Williams. He knew that name it was his Cardiologist, what did he needed her for? He did not realize that he had a heart attack.
Betty Williams is at the hospital and can’t leave so the ambulance is called to take him to her. Once at the hospital she is able to confirm that Victor did have a heart attack and that due to the actions of Gill the damage is minimal. He is out of danger, however he will need to be in the hospital for the next few days, as it turns out a couple of weird days.
Shortly after he was released from the hospital he was out on the town with some friends. He decided that it was time to leave and bid his friend goodbye. Leaving out the front door he was greeted by the waiting paparazzi, snapping picture and asking question. “I just want to go home all, good night” was his only response, and as usual he was followed. The last of his picture taking shadows decided that there was better news elsewhere and stopped following him just blocks away from his uptown penthouse.
He lives in an upscale section of town one of the better neighborhoods, like there is a good neighborhood in this town. It was unclear as to whether the bangers were lost or just trying to move up in life but there they were, right outside the apartment. He pulls into the gated garage and they use that opportunity to get past the gate. His hummer must have looked tempting because they rushed it when he stopped. These brazen thugs actually thought they could take it from him.
Noticing that they were coming after him his heart started to pound and his adrenalin started to spike. This was not the same feeling he had in the ring; it was different more like a rush of power. He stepped out of his hummer and that is when he noticed, he had changed. He had taken on the appearance of stone with green glowing veins running through it. He had also grown and bulked up some. Then six of the little punks shot him. Much to everyone’s surprise the bullets just bounced off.
His wrestling instincts took over and he body slammed the closest hood, knocking him over 30 feet away. As usual the little cockroaches started to scatter and his anger reached out. The force of his strength grabbed them all at the same time. He was as shocked as they were but he didn’t express it as loudly as they did. The fight was over before it started and the thugs found themselves bleeding on the sidewalk when the police arrived.
He liked how he felt after everything was done; it was as big a rush as winning a match and hearing the crowd roar. Someone had to teach these crooks that they are not as big as they think they are. And that’s when it hit him, he would fight these scum and clean up the streets. The good people of this town needed someone and who better than him. With his change in appearance and a colorful name he could remain anonymous; lord knows he didn’t need any more publicity. That night the hero MeteorKnight was born.
The next day he told everyone that he needed some time to himself. He invited Gill to go on a “camping trip”. To Gill this was just the excuse they used to get away for a while. However when Victor started packing sleeping bags and a tent Gill got a little concerned, he didn’t like nature. Then Victor started to drive towards the mountains and on the way he told Gill what had happened. This was to big not to let Gill in on it and Gill could help him figure out what to do and how to do it.
He needed the seclusion so that he could practice activating and deactivating his powers. They were gone for six days but it felt like twenty. But the trip did what it was intended to do and now he can control, for the most part, when and how he turns into MetoerKnight. Maybe someday he will be able to let his family know but for now they are safer in the dark.
