Description:
Shosuro Rin is one of a pair and such is perhaps the most terrifying fact about the young woman as she moves through the world. Of course, some might count that quite the blessing as baser thoughts take the helm as they set eyes upon the young magistrate. After all, it seems she has inherited much from her Shosuro blood that many would find a most pleasant strike of fortune.

She is a handsome woman with a gentle curve of cheek and jaw to form a feminine profile of face. Such is further defined by a naturally dusky complexion that is contrasted well by painted lips that seem always pulled into a perpetual smile that suggests amusement at some little joke or another or perhaps that a clever plan is forming within her mind. Regardless of the source, it sets a comely tone of friendliness despite the connotations to the otherwise easily intimidating scorpion woman. Her body caters to much the same style with a lithe and delicate seeming limbs, each emphasis a sort of effortless alacrity defined by an all too instinctual awareness of her charm and grace for both those of her clan and outside it.

In dress, she favors the dark reds and deepest blacks that have become the Scorpion standard. Each kimono is cut just so to emphasis the gentle swell of hip and breast and lend her an air of curvaceousness where she might otherwise fully fit into the traditional definition of Rokugani beauty. Such does not compromise her dignity, however, as the glimpses of flesh remain restrained solely to hands, face, and the occasional glimpse of a leg if she is forced to move quickly enough to make use of those clever freeing cuts in her kimono.

In contrast, her mask is a thing of horror and terror for most who look upon it. The image it projects is that of a many eyed demon, a creature always aware and viciously hungry for whatever might be it's goal of the moment. The mask ends in the great mandibles of a scorpion encircling her otherwise comely lips in a gruesome embrace. Understandably, it has earned her the nickname of 'Many-eyed' both for the contacts she likes to maintain and the simply unnerving guise her mask puts forth. Especially when one does not know just where her actual eyes are thanks to the clever craftsmanship of a famed Artisan among the scorpion.

Background:
One of two twins born to Shosuro Noriko and her husband Shosuro Ren, Rin was immediately saddled with great expectations in excess of those of her twin sister by virtue of their births being only minutes apart. It was her duty to bring great fortune and prestige to her family through diligent service to the Lords of the Scorpion. Fate often has a way of defining just what would define diligent service to her masters as she demonstrated an enviable understanding of the law and its nuances as they pertained to both the Scorpion and the Kuge as a whole.

Throughout her youth she and her sister, Sachiko, were inseparable. They could always been found within spitting distance of each. It saw them weave in and out of trouble and in more than one instance adopt the mannerisms of the other to befuddle the poor servants and lesser samurai that were charged with watching them. They become little terrors of Ryoko Owari before they came of age to be sent off to study under the Soshi as Shugenja, in the case of her spiritually gifted twin, and Magistrate in the case of the legally gifted Rin.

Her years at the Dojo was a flurry of activity as she became fully acquainted with the art of the blade, of non-lethal take downs, and the intricate politics that defined the criminal world as only the Scorpion might know it. It was a time that opened young Rin’s eyes to the sort of world that she would step out into and the services that would be required of her once she was given her posting. It was not an unexpected delicate balance between those who enforced the laws and merely broken them where the Clan of secrets was concerned and it was proven that she excelled in minding that balance as she was questioned and tested by each of her sensei and junior sensei.

Years past and she began to pass down her own understandings to her younger fellow students and started to establish careful relations with those of her own class. The formulating alliances and counter alliances served as practice for a world that was far less stable than that found in the dojo. A favourite past time among her own class was the acting out of mock sting operations as a training drill where each student could well expect to be ambushed and detained at any moment. The Sensei encouraged this and bred the competition shrewdly so that the most fit would excel and ultimately achieve their gempukku in the full glories of the shadows the clan knew dwelt at the edges of perception.

Eventually, she stepped forth from the dojo with a mask hiding her features away beneath ornately lacquered wood and bone in the guise of a many eyed oni. It was then she was assigned to investigate a series of thefts utilizing similar methods against the Tortoise clan in several waterfront villages near Ryoko Owari. She considered the profile of each crime for a time and the nature of those who had been suspected involved. The wall of secrecy around it was one that was difficult to pierce however as she found those who might inform her best had grown loyal to another that was not lord and clan. Soon, though, she found her break and for perhaps the only time in her life she removed her mask to walk amongst the criminals she sought to apprehend. It was a risky operation as many assured but it was well in keeping with the daring dos and don’ts that many Scorpion Magistrates had been involved in throughout the history of the Dojo and it was a role she was well practiced for thanks to the games of the students and the teachings of her sensei.

Soon enough, the wily woman found her prey. The heist he wished to plan was one of overreaching ambition in her eyes and she could not help but think of him as a lucky idiot. Such thoughts never become public though as she played her role with coy smiles and helpful overtures. She used her connections to fetch him blue prints, the guard rosters, even the servant rotations for a given day in the Governor’s mansion. She even noticed that he was warming to her in different ways when they had been discussing the many ways the palace could be approached with the right tools. She played along well as she learned more and more of this Sarutobi, expressing compassion for the lower classes and a certain bitterness that their own lives were so hard thanks to the treacheries of Kuge. It was even suggested at one point that she had lost a sister to them though the details were never expanded upon as it seemed a topic most painful to the young woman.

Eventually, the plan was forged and every detail was accounted for... all but one that it was a trap to snare him. She was confident but put on a mask of nervousness that was easily seen as pre-heist jitters as she once more excused herself to make sure her contacts had left the servant’s gate open for him. In truth she had gone to don her symbols of station and duty, the many eyed mask once more hiding her darkly handsome features all but the one that would wound her prey the most, that devilish smile of a honed and manipulative mind.

The apprehension of this criminal did not go as she wished it though. A melee erupted as he fought viciously and felled one of her Yoriki before he could take him down. Even as she rushed forward she found herself nearly gutted by one of his henchmen and but for a fluke of fate she would have lost her hand to another even as her katana sang free of its blade and struck the man’s leg just above the ankle and cleanly shearing his foot cleanly from the rest of his leg. He would live and that was what mattered... her more pressing concern was herself as the melee swirled and she watched her prey escape the net. It sent a moment of rage through the scorpion as she shouted for the bounty hunters to fire. Arrows whizzed expertly around her as she clutched her ruined stomach and felt blood flow too freely.

It would be a week before she properly recovered even with the attentions of the shugenja and that was an intolerable head start prey. Once at her fullest strength she departed with all haste following the trail left but encountering the same resistance from the peasantry and eta at all junctures. Fortunately, most realized a scorpion magistrate was not one to wisely cross.
