Brother Caio Severinas, Purifier

Brother Severinas has no memory of his mortal life - as it should be. The world of his origination is not recorded by the Librarium; as a result, all information about those early years is lost.

Aged 87 years, Brother Severinas has served without flinching since the day he earned his armour. All of the Grey Knights are pure, but few are entrusted to guard the captive daemons of the Ordo Malleus; that has been Brother Severinas' charge for nearly thirty years. He has served as watchman and jailer without faltering, and his reward is to once again be permitted assignment to the front of the war. One burden is lifted. Another takes its place.

In the stronghold reliquaries where the bound daemons are kept, there is little for a battle-brother to do but recite the prayers that steel his mind against the influence of the Warp and read from the approved histories of the Ordo Malleus. For this reason all Purifiers are devout and scholarly, and Brother Severinas is no exception. Although he was young for such responsibility, he has requited himself well in face of corruption. The Chapter deems him worthy of direct service to the Inquisition.

If Brother Severinas has a sin, it is curiosity. His hours as jailor to the twisted monsters of the Empyrean have left him knowledgeable about many things that the Ordo Malleus might prefer remained secret. It is the judgment of the Librarians that this quality might serve Brother Severinas best in field work away from his Chapter brothers, where these lines of questioning are more accepted. There is no fear for his soul; although young, he has proven beyond any question his moral resilience.

Often the brothers of the Chapter will adopt small hobbies as they age, sometimes the reassertion of some shred of their original personality, but more often the simple acquisition of personal preference. Brother Severinas has demonstrated an affinity for small cultural tokens that he retrieves from lost human settlements. This behavior has been judged benign by his justicar, and his squad mates have even begun to bring them back for him after their assignments. Frequently these are no more than carvings of the Emperor in various local materials, but his collection has grown considerable in both number and variety of iconography.
