Aw heck, I let myself get flamed...

I responded rather hotly to a reply to my post in Advertisement thread for Real Life (RL) games. I have, however, asked my husband (also on these boards) not to throw oil on the fire and refrain from responding himself.

The entire exchange should probably be deleted, including my advertisement. I've never found it necessary to advertise my RL games, but I thought it would be nice to give anyone in our area a chance to join our fanatically prolific gaming group. The MW community is comprised of some pretty awesome people, but I forgot that it also has its share of people (just like any population) that I wouldn't want sitting in my kitchen.

Actually, the MW community has a higher proportion of awesome people than the general online population, but I don't wish to open myself up to being targeted by randomly hostile busybodies.

I have quoted the exchange below:

I belong to a large informal gaming group. While we are not in need of players, I sympathize with how hard it is to find a good group and would consider making room for a new player.

I'm currently running a 2nd ed. game that is coming to a close and will be replaced with another game, as yet undertermined... probably 3.5... or maybe Gamma World. I am also running a homebrew 3.5 D&D game, which I use these forums to supplement (see Wayside Travelers in my sig).

We're heavy on role-playing, and we have multiple GMs running multiple games. When I'm GM, I run very intense tactical combat using a home theater system, Photoshop maps, and laser pointers.

There's always something going on. I can't guarantee we have a spot open, but our line-up of games is changing, so I might be able to squeeze in somebody new.

PM me if you're interested.

My rather aggravated and arguably inappropriate response:

I don't have room unless we converse and the group decides we like you. It's an invitation, but for someone who's personality is at least marginally tolerable.

So, apparantly, you wouldn't qualify.
I also wasn't aware that it was his business to set MW policy.

Anyhow, I'd appreciate it if you'd just delete all three posts. I'd just delete mine, but he has my ad quoted, and I'm just not a big enough person to let my ad sit there with his response unanswered. Especially since his reply is exactly the reason why it isn't an open invitation but an invitation to discuss interest.

Not going to delete it just yet, will take the issue to the staff forum for now as this is not the firrst incident.

While the remark isn't exactly what I'd say constitutes flaming, it was, indeed, inappropriate and not okay. A message has been sent and we are hoping to resolve this issue.

Hmm... I really don't hang out online anywhere but here because the folk are so nice... so I'm probably shaky on the strict definition of flaming.

However, thank you for the quick response.

I was never asking to join your game in the first place, you assume I'd wanna join after you responding like a (insert B word here)? NO. At any rate, you shouldn't advertise games unless you definitely have room open. I'm not adding or changing any known myth weaver rules, I'm speaking from a roleplayers point of view. I mean, seriously, if you saw an ad saying "we might have room but probably not" would you be interested? I doubt it.

Excuse me, I was using the editorial 'you'. I apologize if my understanding and proper usage of the English language confused you.

If you read the rules of the thread, you would see that it says NOT to respond to advertisements in the thread.

So, by telling me how to post in that thread, you were, in fact, in greater violation of its rules than I was.

I will not stoop to respond to you further. You are a cad.

Reaping-Mauler, you are not site staff, and it's not your place to say that she shouldn't have made the advertisement. The ad is perfectly fine.
