I think 99.999% of the maneuverability of ships in the Star Wars universe is due to deflector shields. Flaps are useless in space and thrust vectoring does not appear on anything. Therefore the only tech I can think of is repulsors, thus my conclusion that deflector shields, which are just huge repulsor fields, are the force responsible for why an X-Wing works.
Or why a star destroyer can enter the gravity well of a planet and survive breaching atmo. This is why we don't see flames when they hit atmo as well, they aren't contacting air or experiencing friction.
Its also why you can jump to hyperspace on a planet.
Bringing up a problem I had with Rogue One I just remembered.
How did they jump to hyperspace so rapidly? I get that K2 is a logistics Droid, did he already know where he was jumping the ship?
