Looking through this, I have some suggestions. Personally I haven't watched Anime in a long while because of a Japanese Genre called Tokusatsu. If you like anime, it shouldn't be that much different. I'll explain Tokusatsu (Toku for short) after I give my Anime suggestions. My personal Favorite Anime is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It is nothing like Evangelion. I've watched both and I regret watching Evangelion. The ending was the worst and I wanted to seriously smash my head against the wall. None of the characters were even remotely likeable, except maybe the random Penguin. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's ending is nothing remotely near Evangelion's. I have no idea why they are even being compared. I sort of recommend Sword Art Online, but their are some points towards the end of season 1 that just made me yawn with boredom. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika is pretty much Evangelion handled better with Magical Girls. I don't particullary recommend this one, but It's short, so why not? I enjoyed it, but wasn't satisfied with the ending. I also recommend D.Gray-Man, I haven't caught up with the manga, but the anime ended strangely. Mainly because the Manga artist had a lot of Health issues to sort out. I read the Manga for D.Gray-Man, but I've watched a few episodes to the point where I can say they are pretty close. I also recommend Soul Eater, It is hysterical at some points, has its share of action and it can get dark at some points. The next Anime on my list is Accel World and Persona 4. I've played the game for Persona 4 and I love it so far (Almost done with the game). Not sure how the anime is. It's been a while so I am having trouble remembering which Animes I have seen and which I haven't. been like 4 years since I started Tokusatsu.
I've heard from many Tokusatsu fans that once they get started, they never really go back to anime. I am probably one of those. Since I started, I've only watched three animes; Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika, Sword Art Online, and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Tokusatsu is essentially what spawned Power Rangers. One of the pioneers of this genre is Godzilla and Ultraman. The main difference, is it is not as cheesy as the english versions. Heck their is more blood, death, and other various dark concepts. All Power Rangers did was take footage from Super Sentai and added their own outside of the suits. The reason they brought in the white ranger, is because the Green ranger dies in Zyuranger (What Mighty Morphin' Comes from). Anywho, I could go on for hours about this, but I am probably either annoying, boring people or taking way to much space up.
