Necromancer healing Undead

Necromancer healing Undead

Hello, I was recently looking at creating a Necromancer when I thought of one large potential Caveat... I need to make sure these walking piles of bones dont disintegrate. I was going to be taking the
A 1st-level necromancer using this variant can begin play with an undead minion (a human warrior skeleton). Obtaining this minion takes 24 hours and uses up magical materials that cost 100 gp.

This creature is a loyal servant that follows the necromancer's commands and accompanies her on adventures if desired. If the skeletal minion is destroyed, the necromancer suffers no ill effects and may replace it by performing a ceremony identical to the one that allowed her to obtain her first servant.

At 1st level, the skeleton is completely typical, but it gains power as the necromancer gains levels. The skeleton has a number of Hit Dice equal to the necromancer's class level. Add one-half the necromancer's class level to the skeleton's natural armor bonus. Add one-third of the necromancer's class level to the skeleton's Strength and Dexterity scores.

A necromancer using this variant permanently gives up the ability to obtain a familiar
Skeletal Minion Specialist Variant also and I'd like for him not to crumble every two days because I cant heal him. Any ideas?

All minions are going to have issues in the area of dying quickly. Skeletons are weak creatures and it will take a lot of work to get him to a state where he'll be a useful melee combatant. (I mean, a 5 HD skeleton has about a CR of 2 1/2.)

You're just going to need to spend some money on buying magic items that will buff him up. Get things that will grant him health and AC. Cast things like Bull's Strength, Haste, Vigor, etc. on him before combat to get him on par with the things you'll go up against. You're basically just going to want to keep him at your side to quell those baddies that run up on you while you're casting.

You might also think of picking up a level in Dread Necromancer (HoH) for the Charnel Touch. It will heal 1 point per use to undead with 1 level in the class, so you won't be wasting any other bigger spells to get him back to full health on the way to the next room.

And if I recall Correctly, since Inflict Light Wounds is on the Dread Necro List, I could use a wand of such without needing to make UMD checks right?

Bear's Endurance won't work because undead don't have a Con score. Vigor won't work, since mindless undead don't heal naturally.

Haste, Cat's Grace, and Bull's Strength are groovy, though.

Consider Stone Bones or
Iron Bones, if you have access to the Spell Compendium.

Vigor would work because it just grants temporary hit points. I can't for the life of me think why I suggested he cast a Psionic power as a 5th level Wizard, but hey... XD

[Ozymandias] Yep, they have that spell. So yes, no UMD check. :)

I think Dalar was probably thinking of the spell by the same name that grants fast healing (and is generally pretty awesome as out-of-combat healing in its Lesser variety)

Something i've pondered doing as a necromancer before was throwing 1 HD skeletal rats at squares and hoping they explode, that combined with a feat from Libris mortis proves a small burst of aoe healing and damage, may also consider looking into black sand, although transporting it could be difficult. As someone above mentioned, you may want to look at a dread necromancer, or Death Master from Dragon Mag.

Death master is.. a Tad powerful for most GM's im afraid. Their minion does not incur penalties upon death. It will do ANYTHING you command it to.. even suicide. and comes back after slain in 24 hours or so.

And unless you houserule some stuff He would have to be evil.

But Death master with a few changes to allow neutral or even good versions.. Those are.. well Awesome is an understatement. But by no means should it be attempted to power game one.. they are to easy to break..off the top of my head. Corpsecrafter feat, and any of the feats associated with said feat all make the Death masters minion even more powerful than it already is.

And inflict wounds wands are Amazing for healing Negative energy undeadz. Also nice in a pinch for interrogation. Hurts like hell but does small amounts of damage.
