Quick questions and answers

No. Ranged range-> Melee range doesn't mean Ranged Basic->Melee basic. You'll want Reaper's Touch for that.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Just thought I'd double check.

But it does mean that you can use Acid Orb on an adjacent target without risking an OA from that foe or another foe who happened to be adjacent.

Alright, here is a quandary: Can an Assassin cast [Assassin] spells in light armor without suffering from ASF? It says that they cast spells just as a Bard does, and a Bard can do so. It doesn't say anything about it, though. Unless there is something in Errata or somewhere. Just something I was wondering. Thanks.
Bumpification.

I believe an assassin can cast in light armor. Bards and assassins both have light armor proficiency and the ability to cast spells. Bards are allowed to cast their spells while wearing light armor with no penalty because the somatic components of the spells are simple. I cross-referenced bard and assassin spells and many of them are the same. This leads me to believe that the line "An assassin casts spells just as a bard does." means that assassins can cast spells in light armor. A friend of mine brought up the point that sorcerers and wizards also have these spell to which I countered they have no proficiency with armor at all.

Now a question of mine. I am certain that at some time I saw a feat or something that lessened the slot required for metamagic feats, but I can't remember where. Does it exist or am I imagining things?

It's hardly surprising that the assassin's casting is confusing, the entire class is composed of nearly pure fail. I'd support the answer above, though why on earth they didn't just put the proper entry under weapon and armor proficiencies like every other class is a complete mystery.

As for the ability you're looking for, there are actually quite a few ways to do that.

Divine Metamagic feat - CD - uses Turn/Rebute Undead attempts to lower metamagic cost

Easy Metamagic feat - Dragon 325 - reduces cost of 1 metamagic feat by 1

Arcane Thesis feat - PHB2 - +2 CL & -1/level for each metamagic feat applied to selected spell

Practical Metamagic feat - Races of the Dragon - reduces cost by 1 for 1 metamagic feat, must be Dragonblood subtype and spontaneous spellcaster

Metamagic School feat - CM - requires Spell Focus (chosen school) or specialist wizard in chosen school - reduces the cost of adding metamagic feats to spells of a chosen school of magic by 1

Improved Metamagic feat [Epic] - DMG, Spellcraft 30 ranks needed, -1 to metamagic cost, stacks with itself

For D&D 3.5e, does anyone have a link to a DMG... I need the starting gold per level for levels 1-20 for new characters.
Thanks all...

Since that information is not included in the SRD, it is not open content - and thus, not allowed to be posted - especially the whole listing for all 20 levels.

Even the starting gold for classes is not open content. Pathfinder has an OGL table with WBL guidelines, but they do not match the DM guide (the numbers are a bit higher).
