Statue & Petrifying Gaze?

Huh. Yeah, you're right. Ok, so you wake up when the spell wears off.

Still, I have to ask, at the point where you're casting level 7 spells... why would you care even a little bit about petrification attacks? You should have been immune to those for a long time already. And rolling a 13 on a saving throw should be entirely trivial.

What do you mean by 'wake up when the spell wears off'?
You have two effects on you. One causes you to be considered stone. The other causes you to be considered stone and unconscious. No longer being stone as a result of effect 1 has no bearing on effect 2 causing you to be unconscious.

You can always roll a 1, and immunity to petrification is actually quite expensive to keep on yourself 24/7 outside of racial immunities (which tend to come packaged with a steep CR and HD cost).

I would. Just makes sense to me. Yes, RAW they would still turn to stone. But it just makes more sense to me that they'd be unaffected. It turns you unconscious because it turns you into stone. You're already made of stone due to the statue spell. Statue's not a very powerful spell for its level, so I don't see it as particularly gamebreaking, and I like to reward my players for clever thinking.

Could be an 18 HD basalisk with a high charisma. That would make it a challange if your not immune, along with maybe a couple wizards and a few fighters in there.

Pathfinder just flat out declares petrification abilities the same as the Flesh to Stone spell, completely cutting out the contradiction of stone critters being hurt by petrification.

House rules and alternate rules systems are fine. Awesome, even. Just be sure you make them clear to your players, and preferably do so ahead of time.

In regards to comments about a high level character not needing the spell to save it from a basilisk's gaze.

Its still good to clarify, because what if you are escorting a lower lvl npc through a basilisk's lair? I've done it twice in my gaming history, you could cast it on them to give them protection.

Also, its duration is 1 hour per level. If your entering a basilisk's lair, you could try to hire someone to cast it on you on your way in...

Assuming that you're houseruling Statue to provide such immunity, yes.
