Piper Plagiarism Scandal

I view plagiarism like sampling in music, if you change it a little its like a cover of a song, change it a little and add, its totally new.

from webster
Quote:
to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source

intransitive verb

: to commit literary theft : present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
so your views aside, it is still plagarism if you 'sample' without giving credit.
now, if they had properly attributed the quotes they made...

Interesting reads, and I very much agree with the author's definitions of plagiarism (we have gone overboard in how we deal with plagiarism). That said, it appears (from the article) that the students engaged in more severe forms of plagiarism.

Excellent articles, nice to see someone isn't crazy.

The issue is more than we have no idea what the students ACTUALLY did. And since apparently this article is a bloody decade old (which I missed originally) the discussion seems moot.

Wasn't sure if it was illegal or not more just commenting on the nature of the request. Jeez didn't see the date of the story, oh well nice little discussion at any rate.
