StarWars: Star Wars D6 & Star Wars Saga

Star Wars D6 & Star Wars Saga

What do you feel catches the feel of the Star Wars universe better, West End Games' D6 or WoTC's Saga ediiton. Why? Please mention rules issues and be specific if you are able.

Maybe there is another system that does an even better job than the two listed.

I have not played SWd6, but I've heard it does a better job. I've got a buddy who played/ran it back when it first came out, and I've been trying to get him to run a game for the rest of us.

d6, classless is always better for star wars

I always felt D6 gave so few interesting options, it was all about the stats. Even making Jedi became impossible because Force powers required so much specialisation.
Saga has lots more interesting skills and abilities, it does narrow you down quite quickly to what you can choose but your character concepts becomes stronger and more focussed because of it. The eras of play are very well defined too and species really feel different from each other.
In D6 they all felt like generic aliens.

For me Saga is expensive and a little bit daunting at first since it seems rules-heavy. But after a bit of perserverance it turns out to be a very flavour-full simulation and easy to narrate, which is important for me because I want to tell a story about heroes.

I like Saga, it's simpler, it's smoother and it still has a huge variety to it. Soldiers are not just generic thugs, they can be brawlers, boxers, kung fu masters, pilots, demolition men, heavy weapons guys, Pistoleers, Riflemen, Snipers and Squad Leaders. Sure you lose the I can be anything and everything all at once feel, but you gain a role, a purpose and simpler character design.

Isnt force power use far more flexible is D6 opposed to limited use powers in Saga?

It is, and its very open ended. I like the idea of that but my experience has been that it helps to have definitions to what the Force can acheive, also that players and GMs can quickly come up with innovative uses.

Weg is the best. The wild die is the best rule ever. I've used it in one way or the other in every rpg that i run

Gak! Zombie thread! Kill it with fire!!

D6 is by far superior to D20

I have pretty much all the versions and apart from the Rules Compendium updates of the first ed , I still play the 1st ed...
