We are looking for a replacement player for a 4e campaign that is running the official WotC modules. Keep on the Shadowfell has just started so you haven't missed much. I originally started this campaign for people who haven't played much 4e D&D or are new to PbP games. I won't make that same requirement for the replacement, however, as I would like to get the game moving along.
Characters
We need a defender, so please only apply with that type of character.
Abilities are the typical 22 point buy system. This is a heroic campaign, so no evil characters if you please. That, however, doesn’t mean that I run my campaigns in a rigid, black and white atmosphere. There are many shades of grey available to play as a PC, I just don’t want down-right maliciousness as a leading motivator. Starting gold is 100gp. I’ll allow one character background, just so long as it fits with your character.
Allowed material: Pretty much anything goes. I have the core books and several of the supplements. If I don’t have the source material, I can always borrow it from my gaming group. They have all the books if I remember correctly. Dragon magazine is OK to pull from, too. I would like to restrict 3rd party (non-WotC) material, however, unless you have a really good justification for it.
Please post your application in the following format:

Game Description:
A game geared towards those new to 4e and/or PbP. We will be following the WotC module series from H1 to E3. The world base is the one in the PHB and DMG and will be centered mainly in the Nentir Vale.
Exciting! Always wanted to play this mod. What follows is a hybrid i have wanted to play. She is primarily a defender even though she is mixed with a leader type.
Name:Meressa Lilliwen Race: Human Class: Swordmage/Artificer
Gauthak grew up with his tribe roaming around a mountain range. He was a typical member of his tribe and got along well with the others his age. He climbed cliffs and jumped over chasms with the rest of the young. In fact they had races that required them to climb or jump over obstacles. Gauthak, thanks to his great strength was one of the top competitors in the race and won it regularly. His main competition was a female goliath of his age, Kuori. She was the only one that was able to win against Gauthak among their age. As they grew older their rivalry grew into love and it was understood that when they reached adulthood they would marry. While Kuori was training to be one of the hunters of the tribe, Gauthak was in training to be one of the protectors of the tribe. The shaman of the tribe informed him that he was chosen by the primal spirits of nature to be a protector of the tribe and nature. From the tribe's warriors he learned how to fight and from the shaman he learned how to channel the primal power the spirits infused him with. He then developed ways to fuse the two so that he could channel the primal power into his attacks with his weapon. Upon reaching the age of maturity Gauthak and Kuori joined together in marriage but it was not to last long. Gauthak was away from the tribe dealing with a small group of goblins slaughtering every animal they could find. He had not trouble hunting them down and dispatching them, unfortunately during this a band of orcs attacked his tribe. Kuori was one of the victims before the orcs where driven away. When Gauthak returned to find his wife dead he was overcome with his grief and he left the tribe to grieve. Now longer able to be among his tribe because of the memories of his wife they bring him, Gauthak decided to strike out on his own and has become an adventurer.
Fiercely protective of friends and family, willing to step between them and danger. He is competitive and likes to try to out do himself. Daring that borders on foolhardiness combined with an inquisitive nature leads him into plenty of harmful situations. Loves to live with nature and considers himself a protector of the natural order.
His skin is gray and is mottled with darker patches that are vaguely like leaves. His eyes are a gleaming blue. He is wearing black bear hide armor. He has a warhammer hanging from his belt and on his back is his shield and backpack. On the left side of the pack a crossbow is strapped and a quiver with bolts is on the right side.

Born to fight, born to die. The machine lived for its duty. Hundreds, possibly thousands died at the hands of its kind. Never once did it question. Its sole purpose to crush the enemies of its creators. Then one day, it simply ceased to be. Years later, it still remains dormant. The parts of it that remembered the past eroded by time. Synthetic musculature degraded. It is but a shadow of what it once was. Lying still where it fell, overgrown with plants and vines. Waiting for the touch of one of its dwarven masters to reactivate it.
Like a baby bird, its rebirth would bring it like a blank slate into the world. Everything to be relearned. It was designed to learn, and it still has a razor sharp instinct for conflict. Its potential and character would be influenced by those it observed. Those it saw at its reawakening would obviously be its (parents?) teachers.
In conflict its instincts force it to fight selflessly, always moving to the position that would allow it to best stymie a foes advance on those it is charged to protect. No ego or desire for glory taints its decision making process. It is skilled in the use of multiple weapons, though only a few of those housed within its armoured hide remain viable.
Bulky and rusted it looks like it has seen far better days in its time on the earth. Some cleaning, new components and armour plates would have it looking bright and new, but for now it is a hissing, squeaking, clanking thing. Several fluids leak from cracks on its hide. Fortunately its kind is built for sturdiness and reliability. Despite some minor discomforts it will hold up without complaint.

Dangit... I've been working on an idea all day at work. I came to check in and noticed that Aguaro beat me to the punch!, I was going to go with a Warforged Warden (instead of Fighter), but the background was almost identical...
