Name: Robert Freeman, renamed himself Lord Bile
Race: Human
Class: Cleric 8
Concept: Grand Cultist of the Obyrith Demon Prince Obox-ob, Prince of Vermin, Lord of
Zionyn
Lord Bile is a robust man, standing over five and a half feet tall. He has become a bit fat, but underneath the belly he has developed is a frame of lean muscle. His green eyes are dull, taking everything in and dismissing it. His brown hair is well kept and gently styled. In the right cloths he could pass for a wealthy merchant (a trick he's used often). When not in disguise, he wears the tattered brown robe of his horrid order, tied off at the waist with a gnawed upon rope. In a way, it is a mockery of the attire worn by friars of the goodly orders. When expecting combat, he wears his dull grey armor, modeled after a scorpions overlapping armor plates, and wields his mystical morning star, the end shaped like a cluster of scorpion stingers.
Two details mar his otherwise charming appearance. The first is his Dark Brand of Obox-ob, a mystical symbol made of pure magic embedded in his chest. Any who look upon the greenish-purple scorpion with it's stinger woven though the red human skull it is perched on knows he follows a dark lord; a learned scholar would know it to be Obox-ob's symbol. The second detail is less obvious but more difficult to hide. His service to Obox-ob has rewarded him with modified skin. Smooth, cool, and less yielding than normal skin, it provides defense in combat, but a noticeable person would find it odd to the touch. As such, Lord Bile tends to wear gloves at all times while in disguise, hiding the smooth coldness of his hands. The fact that his skin is less yielding is much harder to notice, and easier to explain away as a result of working with his hands a lot if anyone notices at all.
Lord Bile is crazy, viewing most creatures as vermin and pests getting in the way of the glorious rats, spiders, scorpions, and other true masters of the world. His master seeks to assume his rightful place as the restored Prince of Demons, and to that end the world must be turned to his purpose. Knowing of all the forces that oppose Obox-ob, Lord Bile is a patient man. His lord has waited a thousand millenia, another few decades won't hurt. Unlike most mad cult leaders, he does not believe in punishing failure by executing them. If the failure survives his incomplete mission, he is sent on a dangerous mission as penance. If he succeeds, all is forgiven. If he fails to redeem himself, he most likely died in the process, and is no longer a problem. Still, Lord Bile has limited resources and knows not to waste them. The statue in the ground told him so.
Robert Freeman was a good man, a simple farmer. He loved his wife Emily and their two kids, Zack and Amanda. Life wasn't easy, but with a good honest day's work it didn't matter. Life was good indeed. And then he found the cave. Or rather, the cave found him. While digging in his field, he quite literally stumbled upon an underground cavern when the ground collapsed beneath him. And there before him was a statue of hideous continence and proportion. Looking upon the horrible thing, Robert did what any sane man would do and smashed the statue to pieces. He then buried the thing, and ordered his family to stay away from the cave. All was well for a time, though Robert was haunted by dreams of the horrible statue. And then, almost a month later, it hit him, and it all became clear. Digging the statue up, he found that it had repaired itself. And it spoke to him, in the gloriously terrible voice of his master, Prince Obox-ob.
After finishing the necessary task of murdering his family and burning the farm to the ground, he got on to the important work of learning the secrets of power from his master, and of the many wicked and hypocritical forces that blocked his lords dominion over the world, forces such as Pelor, Heironious, Asmodious and his brood, and the lesser Demon Lords that dared to challenge him. It all made sense. He became a cultist of his master, learning to unleash horrible black magics on the poor village that still morned the apparent death of his whole family in the fire. Once the village was taken care of, he realized that the true might of his lord would not come until the cities fell, the nests of human vermin giving way to the rats and swarms as was proper.
Heading to the port city of Heindorf, Robert set about the task of bringing down the city. However, the human vermin were everywhere, and if he used his magic without care, they would swarm after him and tear him apart. And so he slowly, over the course of a year, found a group of like minded individuals who embraced the glory that is Obox-ob. These new followers that he recruited awarded him with a new name, Lord Bile, which he humbly accepted. After all, how could he not, he was the one that secretly planted the idea in their heads after all.
Once he had acquired enough members for his cult, Lord Bile set out a plan to slowly tear the city apart. First he sent out his followers to gather up large numbers of rats, which where then released into the grain stores. Rats getting into the grain was always a concern, but hundreds of rats infesting multiple grain stores is a disaster. Though the rats were soon found and killed, they had done their job and eaten or made inedible large amounts of the cities grain. Suspicions might not have risen so quickly if only one storehouse had been hit, but with five of them hitting with such numbers at the same time, foul play was obvious. When the guards found a coin from Rensdor, a competing merchant city from the nearby nation of Tyrania, that had been 'accidentally' dropped at one of the storehouses, the Sheriff determined that it was most likely sabotage to ensure that the cities trade would suffer, forcing them to buy even more of it from the local farms and then having to sell it at a higher price just to break even.
The next task was riskier but payed off in the end. Under a spell of silence, Lord Bile and his followers broke into a jewelry store one night. Grabbing a large amount of black onyx, he obscured his true intentions by stealing a large amount of other gems and jewelry. They would also serve well to finance operations in the future. The shopkeeper, unfortunately, though he heard something (one of the minions had accidentally left the radius for a minute). When he went down to check, they had no choice but to kill him, his sleeping wife, and the two sleeping children. Having a truly wicked insight, Bile instructed his minions to take the corpses with them for the fifth step of his master plan.
Using his new found wealth, he contracted an unscrupulous wizard by the name of Jim Butcher to craft for him a powerful magical mace. The wizard never even bothered to ask where he had gotten the gems or what he wanted the mace for. That night, Lord Vile prepared for the most daring and risky part of his plan. If it worked, victory would be that much closer. But if he failed, it would have all been for naught. His plan involved an attack on a group of acolytes studying the babble of the foolish god-thing Heironious. "Right makes might" indeed. Coming upon them during a night vigil, the acolytes, who had not even gained the ability to call upon their lord for the simplest of spells, where quickly slain by the magic wielding cultists. The complication came in with the paladin who had been guarding them. Strong in her faith, she quickly sounded the alarm. Bile managed to defeat her with his superior magic, but now they had to hurry. Taking four choice bodies, Bile smashed the paladins hold symbol and stuck a bundle of three arrows into her left hand, the symbol of Hexxtor; the Tyrant who was the Archpaladin's greatest foe.
The next morning the word went around town that Hexxites, most likly insurgests from Tyrania, had killed a paladin and several acolytes, and were likely responsible for the attack on the grain supplies. The temples of Pelor, Ehlonna, and Kord all pledged to help track them down. The followers of Obod-Hai and Boccob, however, decided to maintain their neutrality, leaving the hunt to the other temples. And so Lord Bile chuckled silently as four temples waisted their divinations looking for a group of Hexxites that was not there.
The fourth phase of the plan went into effect two nights later. Using his dark powers, Lord Bile infected several beggers with a terible contagious disease known as Slimey Doom. He then infected more victems for the next week, as the disease spread naturaly on its own, being highly contagious. It soon became a plauge, and almost two hundered died before the temples managed to purge the disease; even then hundereds more were permenently weakened by the disease. In a delisious and unintended bonus (his lord's madness worked in ways unknowable), two Hexxorites were found to be amoung those dead. It was decided that these were the insurgents who had died at the hands of their own plauge. Nobody noticed that the bodies of a few beggers went missing. Jim Butcher had avoided the disease, he never associated with the lower classes, and was pleased to report that he had finished the distinctive mace. Lord Bile thanked him and commisioned a suit of armor, paying part up front and the rest upon completion.
