Listen at door

ZhuGuan sticks his torch into the darkness and tries to pull it back out before heading to one of the other doors.

Is it the same wall of darkness we passed through from the opening room? I'm assuming it leads somewhere else but maybe I'm wrong about that. If it's the same thing then head over to DF-14.

The torch will not pass through the wall of darkness. He can't hear a sound coming from the room. He instead turns his attention to another door. There are two to the north. Guan moves towards the second of the two doors. It does not stand any differently from the other doors that ZhuGuan has seen so far. It is made of iron and seems well constructed.

Hurm dar Rivek - Githzerai Thief

Hurm moves three squares behind Guan ooc Switching to bow, he readies against a possible attack if something bursts through.

(Technically with the move and the switching weapons, he may have to go come next turn or after init roll if he is out of his standard actions from the minor stow and switch to bow.)

As the lights move, Allyria follows, unwilling to be left in darkness. This whole situation is unsettling enough without the loss of one of her five senses. She stays close to Hurm for now, her hand fingering the slender length of her wand.

Vicky walks up to the two north doors, studying them quickly to see if there is any difference between them. She also puts her to the door and tries to listen at each one.

"Come over here, please," Vicky beckons the others once she is done.

Once they all are within close hearing range, she shares her thoughts.

"From what we've seen in the two rooms so far, the dungeon appears to be symmetrical. Until we see any proof otherwise, we might assume it is."

"The orcs didn't contribute much, but their presence here means that there is at least one door that leads 'to' this place and not just 'from', like the earlier doors. We have no special mean to determine which door, so I suggest we just try one. If no one objects, I'll try this one," she says and motions to the door

... unless studying the doors and listen at them yielded any new information.

She waits while the others get into position and ready their weapons.

"Oh, and can you light the torch again, Jared? We're very vulnerable with only one light source. If you'd rather hide than carry it, perhaps Allyria can?"

No, we didn't hear anything -- although, my rolls were pretty poor. Feel free to try for better.

Guan also has a torch out now. So, there should be two light sources again.

Guan and two others are at the right door (DF14) not the left one. Either door is fine since we don't know which is which but it's fewer posts to change if Vicky finds herself w/ the other 3.

Ignore everything Vicky said after listening at the door at DF14 She can reapply it after this...

Vicky presses her ear against the first iron door. She can't hear anything, but she can smell something putrid on the other side of the door. She quickly moves over to the door that ZhuGuan is standing in front of. Several of the others have repositioned themselves, though Jack Fox is still over by the orcs. Allyria and Hurm both come out of the shadows moving closer to the group.

Vicky presses her ear against the door to listen at it like she did the first door. She barely pulls her head away and ducks before a burst of mystic flame spews from the door itself. Hurm and Allyria are only barely out of the flames range, and Vicky avoids most of the fire. ZhuGuan Yu is not as lucky. He is caught head on by the burst of fire and barely manages to shield his eyes from the blast.

The orcs turn and look in response to the sudden fire. They begin to chuckle and snicker as they point at the hurt duo. They don't laugh for long, but still the pain seemed to amuse them.

Vicky can apply her speech after the trap (or alter it accordingly if she would like to).

Did the door itself burst with fire or after she opened it? i.e. trap or hideous fire breathing monster?

As soon as she put her ear (earhole, head, whatever...) against it the door spewed out fire.
